I think lore-writers should be allowed--or at least their opinion takes priority--to name the lore and Deluxe dragons, since the name is an important aspect of the lore.

Some of the lore dragons are already named, so the lore writers for the unnamed ones should be allowed to name theirs something appropriate. We can always include a renaming scroll if the recipient asks for one.
Ticket counts are fine by me. I habitually write around 1000 word stories (around 5000 characters if we use WyldDandylyon's numbers. No problems here!
I'm thinking of going for the rebel route myself for my dragon's lore. The black and white makes her look almost like a biker chick. (I should be careful lest I fall in love with my own lore).

I'm back! I'll be on more regularly once I get the internet turned back on. For now I'm spending a lot of time in Starbucks... Anywho, on to the show!
We have a lot to go over today. Please take the time to read everything, respond to what you need to, fill out the two surveys, and ask questions if you have them!
To begin:
Awarding Tickets by Length of Lore
Right now the idea is to award one ticket per every 100 characters that you write. This includes letters, punctuation, and spaces. Paragraph breaks translate into two characters. To check the length of your lore you can use this website here. We are looking at the minimum number of character to be 2,500 (which is somewhere around 370 words), which would gain you 25 tickets. With a maximum of 17,500 characters (around 2,600 words), gaining you the maximum ticket amount per lore dragon allowed by kriski (175). Using these numbers allows for a unified counting system and easy math. All submitted lore will be tallied using the Letter Count to ensure fair counts.
To give feedback on ticket counts please use this survey.
Semi-related note: 2,500 times 7 is 17,500. For those who like number and comparing.
What will the "mark" be?
For the "Calling" Lore the dragons will be "marked" to announce their destiny. Whether of not their home clan notices the mark or knows what it means is up to your interpretation of the lore :) How they react to it is also up to your lore. What needs to be uniform across the board is what this mark is. Is it a mark upon the dragon? Upon the egg? Is it constant or does it only appear at certain times? Is it a pattern? Or the symbol of their flight? Again, how your lore goes is still up to you, but the mark must be a constant across the board.
Please wiegh in on this survey here.
Lore Blurbs? Lore Blurbs.
Here's a fancy thing! It has come to my attention that a few people were interested in having a "lore blurb" to preface the Calling Lore on the Deluxe dragons (so, it would be before the lore itself in the bio). It would also be featured on dragons who aren't getting any lore at all (i.e. leveling dragons, art dragons) and before the lore on dragons who are participating in the Calling lore. It would not have to do with lore dragons not taking part in the Calling lore. Now, the blurb would be making a nice little summary/intro to the Calling lore. A rough example by an anonymous lore writer is featured below (no, it's not me):

When the whole of a Flight is casting their eyes up to their deity, the deity is at their strongest. It stands to chance, that during that time they’d make some miracles, do some extraordinary things. And they do. No one knows which one of them started it, but each year, some dragons are born during the Elemental Holidays bearing the mark of their Flight. For a long time, these dragons have not known what it meant. And neither has anyone else. Sometimes they were shunned, sometimes revered, sometimes ignored or feared. Until The Calling came, and everything changed.
One day you wake up, with your eyes fogged over and your mind elsewhere. You can hear the words of your deity, Calling you to service: “It is time, rise!” they say, “You will travel in my name.” And you do. Where you’ll go, you don’t know. What you’ll see, you can’t be sure. But one thing is certain: you’ve been blessed.

Once we determine what the mark will be I will be hosting a small Lore Blurb "contest". You are invited to take part by writing a small blurb that summarizes/introduces the Calling Lore. This blurb should be between 100 and 200 words. You will send that blurb to me through PM (don't post it in the thread!) and once everyone has entered I will put up the blurbs (so no one knows who wrote what) and we will vote on our favorite.
This is not a mandatory event! Please only participate if you want to :) Keep in mind: This is for the Calling Lore that will be attached to deluxe dragons, non-lore dragons, and dragons participating in the Calling Lore. You will have from the 15th to the 20th to write the blurb. I will put them up for your consideration on the 21st and the winner will be announced on the 23rd.
I shall call you...
kriski okay-ed the lore writers naming the dragons! So, if your lore dragon is unnamed please feel free to name them! If you can't think of a name there is nothing wrong with asking for suggestions in this thread :) The only rules that kriski had were that they stay FR appropriate and related to the lore/dragon.
"New" Guidelines
I wanted to make sure that everyone is aware of a few of the "new" guidelines!

If you are writing for a Deluxe Dragon please be prepared to coordinate with the Deluxe artist to make the dragon ~fancier~.

All Deluxe dragons will be taking part in the Calling lore. Please be prepared for that when choosing your lore dragon.

Other dragons can take part in the Calling lore, but it is not required.

When writing lore you have two months (from the day that I assign your dragon) to complete that lore. If you don't finish the lore in that time the dragon will be reassigned. *There can be exceptions to this if something major comes up in your life, but please keep me aware of these things. If two months passes and you haven't communicated with me at all I will have to reassign. This won't apply to October/November dragons. Those will have a shorter due date.

You cannot be assigned a new dragon until your current one is finished. Unless, you have written at least half the lore for the first dragon AND no one else wants to write for the second dragon.

When choosing lore dragons people who have not yet gotten to write will be given first choice.

When you complete your lore please send it on to me so I can check it for length (to award tickets), mark off that you are open for more lore, and hold on to a copy for the dormers/bio coders to incorporate on the dragon's page.
Do you volunteer as tribute?
I was thinking that it might be helpful to have a volunteer or three around to help proofread. Some people (such as myself) are not so great at sentence structure and punctuation and it would be helpful to have someone to go to who can read it over. This is strictly a "proofreading" volunteer position. So, if you have some skill with tidying up sentences and putting commas in the proper place (omg, commas are the worst) and want to help your fellow writers, please step forward :)
Wow, this never ends does it?
A few more things:
I'll have a spreadsheet up by the end of the month to track who has what dragon, what dragons have been finished, who still hasn't written, and what your current ticket counts are.
There are approximately half of the lore writers missing from this discussion... If you aren't comfortable talking in the thread that's totally kosher, but I want to make sure you're seeing this stuff and are ok with it. Please just post a quick "present" if you haven't yet sent me a message or posted in this thread! If you're more comfortable sending me a PM you can do that too. I just don't want to miss anyone <3
Welcome to the party, @Elsu! you definitely aren't stepping on any toes (RNG just didn't favor you this round >.<). If you have any questions or input please feel free to chat or send me a PM. And again, welcome aboard!
.......I think I'm finally finished. I'm really good at creating walls of text. If I missed anything please let me know. Now, discuss away my little birds! Fly, fly!

I just want to clarify something: we are sending you our writing and then it will be entered on the dragon's page by the dormer. Correct?
Or will the dragon be sent to us so we can enter the lore ourselves then return the dragon to the dormer? Or something else?
I'm asking more to clarify for the dragons that are unnamed.

PastCat, you will be sending the writing to me and then I will be sending it to the dormer. It's less work than sending dragons back and forth. I will also be keeping a copy of the lore to prevent mishaps and to double check ticket count.
As for the unnamned dragons, if you are the lore writer for that dragon and come up with a name for it I will convey that to the dormer so they can name it :) Less dragon trading and cross communication that way. There's a lot going on here so we're trying to keep too many lines from crossing.

kriski thank you for the updates and surveys, i sent in my thoughts :D
I look forward to reading about each of the dragons over the time - wouldn't it be neat if we could compile the dragon's lores and pics in one place - just in case they're ever exalted.. :) You know, to be able to look back and read what was done year after year. (That's something that could be done later on ofc, if it is..)

Wintercreek - Answered the polls, and I agree to new guidelines and naming rules. As for the blurbs, I think they're really cute, so I might take part in the blurby contest~
