Flight Rising Discussion

Discuss everything and anything Flight Rising.
TOPIC | Elements' Shared Traits
Since often times dragons will live in clans different than their birth element and/or be a different element from their breed's original element, I thought it might be helpful lore-wise to figure out how multiple elements might affect a dragon. So I went through and tried to come up with a list of what each flight/element has in common with the others. (I started with ice because most of my dragons are ice and then from there went by how easy it was to think of commonalities for that element, the traits themselves are in random order).

Please let me know if you have any ideas I should add!

@qwigoqwaga Oooh this is very interesting!

I'd like to add that Wind and Lightning are also two of the most "free will"-based flights (which reflects nicely with their respective "opposites", Earth and Ice). Wind is all about freedom, coming and going as they please, whereas Lightning's manifests its free will through shaping their own land, their own future, instead of bending to its whims. They both are also probably very likely to disgard tradition. Lightning sees it as hindering, and Wind is too restless, too much of a traveller's soul to be bound by tradition. They (as in Wind) have lots of stories, but they're not going to let them cage them.

I could add more because this is really cool (especially irt: Lightning because I have obvious bias), but it's 2 AM here and my brain refuses to help.

Ooh those are good traits. I'd probably put intuition with shadow and water.

@Seriema
That's a really good perception. I'd love to hear more whenever you get the chance to post it ^^

Thanks!

This makes me wish elemental alliances worked. I can see Light, Lightning, and Arcane all being nerd bros.

Then perhaps Ice, Shadow, and Plague.

Nature, Wind, Water?

@qwigoqwaga Thank you, I really like debating this kind of thing :DD

I think a trait shared by Lightning and Ice, beyond the ones you mentioned, is a certain future-focused outlook. They do it in pretty much opposite ways, but it's a contrasting factor between Ice/Earth. While Earth actually focuses on the past and memory, Ice takes it to its extreme, in that things shall be preserved for eternity - for the future. They shape their future by preserving their past for it. And Lightning, well. Lightning is all about making their own future. They have completely opposite ways of going on about the same thing. (Not to mention, there's a load of futuristic setting stories that make use of cryogenic stasis to bring in "present-day" characters, haha)
In a way, Water could be added to the "future-focused" thing, but they tend to be passive observers.

(I'd actually like to know what you think of this one in particular because you're in Ice, and hey, contrasting views :D)

Nature and Lightning can be both associated with creation. Nature generates life, Lightning builds machines. And, although they'd probably be horrified at our unholy disregard for the laws of nature, we certainly entertain the idea of artificial life. (Hello, Bogsneaks.)

Wind and Earth, while also opposites, also share stories. Earth has the memories ans stories of their ancestors. Wind, in their constant wandering, lives lots of stories, which they share wherever they go.

Edit: Typo.
