I just did a bit of math on lair expansions and potential fodder sale profits, and considering my flight's fetish glittery love for money, spreadsheets and stats, I thought I'd share.
Main conclusion: you can earn a million treasure per month quite easily just by breeding fodder, without spending even a second in the coli. All you need to do is spend a minute a day incubating eggs, plus ten minutes every five days to mass-sell and mass-buy dragons on the AH.
What I'm basing my conclusions on are a few assumptions:
Conclusions:
If you level and exalt all your fodder yourself, you obviously earn considerably more. These figures are close to the minimum you'd earn. Dom battles and bonuses also drive up revenue and profits.
So even if you don't grind in the coliseum, it's still possible to earn sizable profits per week if you're willing to dedicate at least part of your lair to breeding fodder and re-invest your earnings for a handful of months.
If you want to fiddle with the calculations yourself, here's the spreadsheet to make a copy:

Use with some caution, especially for the smaller lair sizes, and use the base assumptions to the right in column V to adjust the calculations.
If you find an error, definitely let me know!

What I'm basing my conclusions on are a few assumptions:
- You're starting out with 15 breeding pairs from plentiful breeds, all of them RTB (or at least staggered in periods of 5 days) and mixed breeds to make 5-egg nests possible.
- You've got your lair expanded to 35 slots.
- The adult fodder floor is at 7,000t.
- The hatchling fodder floor is at 4,000t.
- On average there are 3 eggs per nest, or 15 eggs per 5 nests.
- Prices of the new lair expansions are the same as for the expansion to 175 spaces (I've seen this on the forums, but mostly as hearsay).
Conclusions:
- If you run a fodder mill, you can make a fairly good profit if you stick with it and are ready and willing to sell anything and everything you breed.
- If you only sell home-grown fodder you need approximately 50 slots and five nests, which will earn you a weekly profit of around 120,000t.
- Lair expansions take around two and a half weeks to pay off.
- If you expand fully, it will take around 500 days (or 1.5 years) to recoup all expenses, at which point you'll earn a weekly profit of around 650,000t.
- Each occupied slot you're not using to breed fodder for sales costs you a little more than 3,000t per week in "rent", or lost profits.
