These specially designed appearances have developed due to specific conditions in the environment and allow for the dragon to survive much more easily. An example of a subspecies would be a Corgi. It has a very defined appearance that makes it different from other breeds, and a dog must fill certain categories in order to be identified as such. Although it varies greatly with other breeds and has evolved for separate purposes, it is still considered a dog. Similarly, if a dragon is to be considered as part of a subspecies, it must fit into that subspecies' requirements. Their green underbellies were developed due to their peculiar hunting style for when they return to the reedy plateaus in which they lie still on their back, then ambush their prey.
