This is the best oh my god.
I just found this and it is my favourite thread on all of flight rising. Such imagination you all have!

@Llealynarisia I'd love to be added to all the pinglists, and I might come back here to take a crack at designing the space ships once I lose the work load I have now :D

@QuickSilvr I know, right~? This idea has practically exploded since I first started this thread, and it makes me so happy~

Adding you now~

Time for my own post, and damn is it long XD

Earth:
The Earth flight’s capabilities tend to be attuned towards the long-term, with their flight being the most resilient among them. Earth’s various clans tend to be a very well connected bunch, with no one clan remaining disconnected from the greater fleet for extended periods of time preferring instead to seek safety in numbers and the nearby presence of the main fleet.

Diplomatically, Earth enjoys close ties with all the other flights save Fire. In particular, Earth has a very close cooperation with the Water, Arcane and Lighting flights, and has entered into many joint projects between the 4 of them. In the wake of the recent surge in unexplained anomalies, most notably those of reports of missing ships and unexplained encounters with reported ghost ships, the 4 flights have entered into a common defence pact and have ramped up joint training exercises between them in preparation for what they see as the opening moves by an unknown power.

Occasionally, relations do tend to take hits between the Nature and Plague flights as all 3 are competing with each other in the major business of planetary reclamation and reformation, but they are generally isolated from overall diplomatic affairs.

Ties with Fire aren’t exactly hostile, although they certainly aren’t warm either with both flights constantly placing the other under observation at all times. Cooperation, though rare, does exist but other flights are at a loss as to the exact nature of their relations, with even the Shadow flight deciding that this is one conflict it needs to stay out of. It certainly doesn’t help that both sides have been in a standoff in the lucrative S-871 Asteroid cluster, with both sides staring the other down with some of the largest arsenals in the area, despite agreements that said resources had already been evenly split among the 11 flights. Most academics have long concluded that some form of cold war is evidently in place, perhaps due to some long running feud between the 2.

Economically, they tend to be the most resilient with many safeguards in place both to protect its civilians during times of hardship and ensure the sustainability of its development with policy makers placing heavy emphasis on ensuring future growth isn’t jeopardized for short term gains. However, this also means that they also experience the lowest economic growth of all the flights which has led to large capital outflows as financially savvy investors seek higher returns elsewhere, although they tend to have large inflows when other flights experience their own economic downturns.

Its advisory services are highly sought after by other flights particularly when it comes to long-term planning, even among its long time adversaries, the Fire flight. But by and large, its largest economic and technological export is that of its terraforming services. Whereas other flights might establish living domes on board inhospitable planets, Earth engineers and scientists have discovered ways to modify entire planetary systems to suit dragonkind of all species. Be it atmospheric modification to bacterial seeding, Earth truly has it all and is the go to place when other flights are stuck with a desirable but not quite hospital planet for colonisation and development.

They are also experts in subterranean construction and have been at the forefront of asteroid colonisation. Most notably, a joint project between the Earth, Water, Lightning and Arcane flights has allowed for the colonisation of planets near Neutron stars through a combination of surface based planetary radiation shielding, space based neutron jammers and reinforced planetary superstructures that allow for the safe habitation near these gravity and radiation intensive stars.

Militarily, Earth has a very centralized command structure, with all 4 members of the armed forces organized under 1 command. No individual clan has a major military force, instead each one contributes members towards a collective armed force, with only a modest escort force remaining with each individual clan. Earth places heavy emphasis on the value of its troops, and its combat systems reflect this with nearly all of them being heavily defensive in nature. The offensive capabilities tend to be a balance between high impact projectile rounds, and low impact energy based weapons.

Its Air Force isn’t the most mobile, in fact some even joke that civilian jets are more manoeuvrable than some of its tactical fighters. But what they lack in agility, they make up for in armour, both passive and active. All Earth air units are designed to take and survive multiple direct hits to their frame, with multiple redundancies built directly into the system. This is used in conjunction with its Active Denial System (ADS) that actively scans the surrounding airspace and fires projectiles to intercept incoming projectiles, or in the case of directed energy weapons, fire off and detonate special plasma canisters nearby to diffuse the incoming energy system. In the scattered skirmishes with the Earth’s Air Force, many have come to call them literal flying tanks.

To compensate for the lack of manoeuvrability, Earth’s air divisions operate in teams and massed formations with interlocking arcs of fire to fend off enemy air combat teams. But even then, many are more than aware of the weaknesses of this. An Earth air unit can’t change direction easily as each team member must maintain formation with the flight lead to ensure combat effectiveness, and their air units are also the slowest, often taking long times to respond to attacks on its ground, naval and space forces. With the recent rise of superweapon development, military theorists have also cast doubt on their air units capabilities to evade such systems, which have the capability to wipe out entire divisions.

It’s Naval and Space branches share similar capabilities, with both of them organised under the same overall command. It might not have the largest number of ships, but it certainly has some of the largest, along with a large variety of ships with overlapping capabilities. Combat fleets tend to have multiple layers of defences, with its most sensitive ships like carriers and battleships in the middle surrounded by multiple layers of cruisers, destroyers and frigates. Oddly enough, Earth dreadnoughts are shockingly lacking in heavy armaments and are often placed on the outer edges of the defensive circle. Not only that, but they’ve been retrofitted with multiple defensive capabilities that aid the fleets combat capabilities through the use of various technologies such as magnetic resonance armour and energy transfers. Make no mistake, countless adversaries have only discovered to their detriment how this seemingly stupid mistake of placing ones capital ships in such an obviously vulnerable position has somehow resulted in the rest of the fleet somehow emerging with little to no damage.

Its army consists of numerous units not seen anywhere else, such as the presence of heavy armour and heavy infantry. Unlike the rest of its military, these are specialist offense units built to take and dish out massive ordnance. They’re primarily deployed to breach heavy fortifications in support of the well-known turret creep strategy made famous on the planet of Novartis, where Field Marshal Morganite used them to draw enemy fire while his other engineering teams slowly forced the enemy back by progressively placing turrets closer towards the enemy line. Indeed, the resulting victory was credited to the survivability of their heavy units, with one T-100 Ogre heavy tank reported hit by over 200 enemy anti-tank rounds while intercepting another 600 with its own ADS, no doubt saving the lives of their fellow troopers.

Infantry typically carry heavy armour and have cybernetic enhancements to enhance survivability such as enhanced platelets and the infamous Gembond armor. Many adversaries have come to know Earth infantry divisions for having their own living armour grown on their own hide, which has proven effective at absorbing shockwaves and energy systems, while shattering to render most small arms projectiles useless.

...I just realized that Water is always going to be in a good place economically, because someone is going to see every fluctuation coming, no matter how minor, and invest appropriately.

Also, Lightning will always wonder how Water can even keep its ships together, with no regularly documented maintenance schedule...but Water doesn't need calendars and checklists to make sure their ships get the service they need on time. They just know.

@Unazaki That post is long, but it is also very informative! I've linked it on the first post. :>

@ValkyrieDragon Part of me has been tempted for a while to start a roleplay group for this, but I am hesitant because I have a lot of other things going on as well, here, elsewhere on the internet, and in real life. Maybe if I could find people who would be willing to take active roles in moderating the group...but on the other hand, I don't really want to just shove all the work on other people....
