@ankh, your lair sounds lovely!
My flight started in Nature, spent (in-lore time) over two decades there (with some dragons born to the clan and having never left the Viridian Labyrinth or the clan itself in their lives), and are now vacationing in the Starwood Strands. So it's very much... a Nature clan, just one that happens to be in Arcane territory. (I'll be doing two other vacations, to Wind and probably Water, so they'll be along a similar line.) Copying and pasting from my Tumblr!
"The Golden Canopy Clan is (temporarily) located in the Starwood Strand, part of their vacation from the Viridian Labyrinth. Their territory is basically as close as they could get to their old home, so there’s a lot of flowers and other plants around, and it’s basically a pretty naturalistic environment (aside from the random Arcane-mutated plants and crystals and glowing canopy). Land-wise, one side of the territory is a rocky/crystalline wall, and the rest spreads out into the forest from there.
The central point is still the titular golden Fae-cured-sap lair up in the canopies, which is the main accommodation for the smaller breeds, mostly Fae and Spirals. There’s also a combination of treehouses, ground-level constructions, and cliff-face lairs for the bigger dragons, like Guardians and Imperials, and some that are partially underground. Some areas, like the main stores and the various labs and workshops, are mostly underground as well - some totally buried, some with skylights letting the light in. There’s a very large open area right in the middle, which is large enough for the entire clan to meet up in.
In the surrounding forest area are things like the chicken pen, the fruit and vegetable gardens, and beehives, a training area with wooden and straw dummies for dragons to practice combat, and a lake with a comfortable shack near the edge, where the clan’s Maren residents live and where a lot of the Water dragons like hanging out. Running into the lake are a few streams which have fish in them - mostly smaller ones, so the clan’s fisher generally goes further outward for fishing trips (and to go surfing!). The edge of the territory is marked by small cairns with the clan’s rune on them, and occasional decorations like flags and interesting ornaments hanging from the trees.
Smells - lots of floral/greenery smells, mixed with occasional ‘oh god what’s that?!’ from the clan alchemist’s lab. In areas like the smithy, there’s more metallic smells, and the kitchens have lots of nice food smells, especially when Strudel is making pies. There’s also this weird indescribable smell which is basically… magic being used. The general sounds are birds, wind, explosions (the alchemist again), music (when Riya is practicing), and an ever-present background hum of magic, accompanying the odd scent."
Basically something as naturalistic as they could actually get in the Starwood Strand - they don't want to forget their roots, so they're still going for forests, flowers, that sort of thing.
