One of the big draws to Gen Ones is that they can breed with any dragon. So I was thinking it might be a fun little challenge to try and artificially replicate that in a higher gen dragon. The way it would work is you start with two unbred gen one dragons. You breed those, pick one of the offspring, and then exalt all other offspring AND the parents. You can then only breed that hatchling with another unbred gen one, and repeat the process. You can do this as long as you want (perhaps you're aiming for specific colors), as long as you're sure to exalt all other dragons in the line immediately. What this means is that when you finally do decide to stop, your pedigree dragon has no other related dragons available to breed in the game, and is effectively a gen one. Lore wise, gen one dragons have to come from somewhere. We just don't know where. A pedigree dragon is basically a gen one that knows where it came from. There isn't really much use to this; it'd be hard to breed up the rarity tiers in genes and breed, it would cost a lot, and once you start breeding the pedigree dragon to sell hatchlings it loses it's "I can breed with everyone" effectiveness. Mostly, it might just be an interesting challenge and a bit of a point of pride to succeed in getting what you want out of it. Like I said, just something I've been thinking about. UPDATE: I've decided to do it. [s]Dragons will be tracked in detail in the tread, and simplistically with thumbnails here[/s] I decided my first run through is a sort of practice, to work out kinks and figure out exactly what rules I want to use for a later run. I decided my first run through is a sort of practice, to work out kinks and figure out exactly what rules I want to use for a later run.

Huh, this sounds fascinating! I personally don't think I'd partake in it just because I don't have any G1s I want to exalt, but this idea certainly fascinates me! If you do it, I'd love to see the records and get pings on it.

Returning after a long hiatus, a lot has changed!
Please be patient while I get used to things again :)
@Butzefrau
I've definitely been considering it! Right now a lot of my treasure is tied up in geneing some of my planned breeding pairs, but really that's the only thing stopping me. There's just something really appealing about the idea to me. I definitely think I'll give it a try one day, so I'll be sure to give ping you whenever I do get started on it :)

@Hawkfeather

I like this idea! Consider my gen one a donation to your plans. c: No purchase necessary. I just want the ugly beast gone, haha. I'll have to check in with you after to see the outcomes you create!

I don't think I'll be participating in this any time soon, but it sounds like a really fun idea! Maybe once I'm done with my current projects I'll do it.

Sounds like a very intricate legacy challenge!
I imagine for price effectiveness, it's probably best to stick to desired color combos first and then plop gene scrolls down later when you get your 'Pedigree' dragon you like.

Great way to go use unbred Gen1s with wide ranges of colors to see if you can get something appealing in the end :D (Testing the RNG out :D)

Pinging myself so I can find this again
@waterfall500

I might try this when I have more lair space

an interesting idea. would need a lot more lair space, but it could help with dom.

might not need gene scrolls as long as you only go up one rarity tier and breed 1-3 nests to get the gene going with potentially more nests as the rarity goes higher. which would only work if the other parent (non-gen1) was from a line that all got exalted. maybe set that up yourself first? to go easier on the gene scrolls?

Though the exalting could eventually pay for a rare gene scroll if you take the time to get color right. maybe?

plentiful - common [30% c] - uncommon [25% un] - ltd [15% ltd] - rare [3% might give up and just buy the dang thing]

I think that I just might try this after I get way up in lair space and have most of my other projects done. could be entertaining to try

@HowlingHooves
Wow, thank you so much! Can I take him from you after dom rolls over this week? I need to expand my lair but since fire is pushing I want to wait for the discount.

@raptorix
Yeah, that's my line of thinking as well. I'm probably mostly going to work with cheap ugly unwanted gen ones, and see what I can make out of it! Near the end I might see if I can nab a limited number of gen ones with some genes, depending on the cost. Or maybe run multiple lines so I can get two with genes that can be bred together later? I guess we'll see!

@Latigirl
I might keep track of treasure I make from exalting during the course of it. It would definitely be an interesting challenge to try and breed in genes, or only pay for scrolls with what you made.

@Hawkfeather There's someone on Dragonshare trying to hatch a new G1 every day, then selling them. Maybe that'll be helpful? :D
