Day One
Aretha was frustrated; she nearly broke her pearl with the amount of pressure she was putting on it in her grasp. She now regretted every instance of her complaining about her powerful clairvoyance powers, they would have been useful for finding her way out of this forest.
Her powers... yes. Aretha theorized that the nullification of them was caused by the potent Arcane magic that was seeped into the land, though even she had to agree that it made no since;
Callista, her clan's only native-born Arcane dragon, had said that the magical energy would only enhance her visions. The pearlcatcher sighed, stopping for a brief while to rub her temples as she saw an oncoming migraine in her future. Nothing else though. Anything she should be able to see was blurry and uncertain, even more than what should be normal.
No amount of money was ever worth this... She lamented in her mind, remembering just a few days ago she was jumping at the opportunity to exploit her gods-send power to made a few pieces of cold, hard gold. Which was why Aretha left before her clan mates, so she could set up shop earlier.
She seated herself on a nearby boulder. Aretha thought of
Havah, with her ingenious mind. She would know what to do, and what the best path would be. The mirror didn't even need any kind of mystical magic to do it, just the power of her own normal mind! Or maybe
Trey, sure, for the entire time she's with him she'll be grating her teeth until they're nubs, but he's a more than competent fighter, and any danger they come across he'll surely be able to plow through. Callista would also be a great asset, she would know where to go and what not to do.
Before Aretha could continue on with her train of thought, she spotted something moving between the trees. She scrambled up to a defensive position, before relaxing when she realized what it was. A Starbear. With it's lumbering, not even the most nervous butterfly would be afraid of it. As she kept observing the fauna, Aretha realized that it was heading in a direction that was more into the woods than along the path. She pushed her tongue into her cheek, trying to hold her curiosity from trying to follow the bear. Closing her eyes, she tried to consult her visions, but, again, could only see faint silhouettes. But, there
was a shape that was kind of shaped like a Starbear...
Aretha opened her eyes to see that the bear was almost out of sight. With a yelp, she scrambled to follow it, tripping on her sash and roots on her way there.
"There's no harm, right?" She muttered to herself. Either way, she tucked her pearl closer to her body and pulled her shawl tighter around her shoulders. The flower blossoms glittered ominously about her head.
Day Two
After a while of traversing over a rough terrain of undergrowth and tree roots, Aretha was about to give up and turn back, when she was suddenly thrust into a clearing. The nearby plants were smoking and the ground was covered by char marks, which led straight to a strange glowing rock in the center of a large crater. Aretha was unsettled, but the presence of multiple obscenely cute Starbears comforted her, and she grew enough courage to go up to the alien rock.
Sliding down the steep slope, Aretha made it close to the glowing rock. She slowly walked around it, taking in it's details. Finding a branch jutted out from ground, she climbed it to see if she could get a better look at it. The branch creaked dangerously, but Aretha paid it no mind.
She felt a strange exhilaration to touch the rock, like it was calling her, so she reached a claw out and it made it's way closer and closer to the strange meteor...
And a large, grotesque limb brushed past Aretha's claw. She recoiled, and the branch promptly snapped, letting Aretha fall to the ground with a sickening crunch. She didn't notice though; how can anyone notice when a faceless creature just scurried past you? Her eyes were glued to the figure as it climbed to the top of the meteor, it's many limbs contorting in a slow and hypnotic way.
Finally the logical side of Aretha's mind picked herself up, though not without pain. She looked down, to see that her right leg was bleeding, and with a claw to her head she found out that she was wounded there too. The pearlcatcher backed up slowly, well, as best as she could in her condition, as to not disturb the creature.
When she was out of the crater, Aretha slowly turned tail and limped her way back into the forest. She turned to look at the monster again, to decide what to do. Aretha looked at her claws, just to see that she was shaking violently. Clasping them together, Aretha decided to do nothing about it. Arcane can take care of it. Of course they can.
She felt a pit in the bottom of her stomach.
