I want to participate, but my taste in music is really bad :(
So is mine, come be terrible together! Taste in music is always going to be subjective, so embrace it, and give your partner a truly unique experience!
What makes a good mix tape?
Your keyword here should be variety. Including a lot of different artists and genres makes it a lot more likely that your recipient will find at least one song they will like. You may love Norwegian death metal and have enough songs to fill ten playlists, but if your recipient doesn’t, they’re going to be a little disappointed. However, if you pick the absolute best song from your collection, they might be won over!
I really hate post-modern acid jazz, can you make sure I don’t get any?
Short answer: Nope.
Long answer: I can’t guarantee that any playlist you receive will be free of all of the genres and songs that you hate, or even that there will be any songs you
like. The whole point of this is to try something new, so open your horizons!
However, if specific songs or subjects are going to be distressing or triggering to you, you can message your partner asking them to please avoid those subjects. Keep in mind that they’re under no obligation to comply with your request, and I can’t do anything to make them either.
Why did you ask me what my favorite song was?
If your partner wants, they can use that as a prompt to try to find music that's similar (or completely different!) for your mix. It's not mandatory, but some people might find it helpful.
I already signed up but I changed my mind, can I back out?
If it’s before the end of the sign-up period, absolutely. PM me and I’ll take you out of the spreadsheet.
After the end of the sign-up period, you still can, but I will be very sad since I will have to assign a pinch-hitter to your partner. Please don’t sign up unless you’re pretty sure you can follow through.
Pinch-hitter?
Stealing a concept from Yuletide, I’m asking anyone who signs up if they want to be a pinch-hitter. This means that, if we get someone who either backs out or just doesn’t send their partner a playlist by the deadline, I will contact someone from the pinch-hitter list and ask them to send a playlist. Given the short notice, these don’t have to be as long or as meticulously planned as the formal mix tape, but do please put in some effort as it’s still a gift for someone.
I’ve got actual questions that you didn’t make up...
Feel free to ping, PM, or just post in the thread if you have any further questions!
