The main subject must be an NPC![/b] [i]The picture has to center around some form of monster or pet NPC. Additional player characters, including your own, can be included and may interact with the NPC.[/i] [b]Ice themed pictures will earn you tickets to the Gala Raffle![/b] [i]In other words, the pictures you submit doesn't have to be ice themed. But if you manage to incorporate the theme anyway, it'll net you some tickets. By Ice Themed I mean icy/snowy/wintery environments, and creatures with a clear connection to the element (such as snowmen). [/i] [b]When posting a picture, write down what game it's from[/b] [i]I'm going to check up on games I don't know to gain an understanding of the photo.[/i] [b]You can submit pictures from any game[/b] [i]I will take into consideration what game you're playing, and it'll affect my judging.[/i] [b]No pictures of cutscenes![/b] [b]Model Games (a.k.a. where you can pose the creatures) are not allowed[/b] [b]You can enter up to two pictures[/b] [b]You can change your pictures however many times you want during the week![/b] [b]The deadline is January 30th 23:59 server time[/b] Once the deadline hits, you can no longer enter or change your pictures. [b]Ice Members and Prize Donors can enter the contest[/b] [img]http://i.imgur.com/VoRJn1l.png[/img] [size=6][b]Judging[/b][/size] Due to the nature of this game, here's some more detailed info on the judging process. [b]Type of Game[/b] Some games allows for more intricate posing options than others, or allows you to directly alter the environment or creatures. Since it's easier to take good pictures in these games, I will judge them more harshly. As a rule of thumb this means Sandbox Games and MMORPGs will face slightly harsher judging than others. [b]Graphics[/b] Graphics won't affect your chances of winning. It can be a pixel game or fallout 4, both have an equal chance. [b]The Picture[/b] So how DO I judge the pictures? [u]Composition and creativity.[/u] By composition I mean how you frame the picture. Make it look good. Use the environment and other factors to your advantage to create an aesthetically pleasing picture. Creativity is by far the most important criteria. Try to take pictures with a story in them, or when the monster is in the middle of an action. Unless it adds to the picture, avoid just having them stand in place. The same goes for your payer character if they're part of the picture. This means that some games are more suited for this contest than others. While almost all games are accepted, it might be a wise choice to pick one with more dynamic motions and controls. [b]Difficulty[/b] Remember, engaging a particularly difficult monster won't increase your chances of winning. I'll try my best to account for how hard it is to take screenshots in a game and make them look good, but when it comes to the subject of what monster you go after, it won't matter. Bosses might make for more interesting pictures though. [b]This is an experimental contest[/b] I really, really wanted to try this out, but when actually creating the contest I discovered it's going to be hard to judge this. Part of the reason there's only one judge is to make sure we don't have three judges all judging pictures with different criteria. Anyway, the point is this is going to be a learning experience for everyone participating, including myself. I hope the final results will be satisfactory. [/b] As long as you aren't the creator of said game, and the game has some recognition, yes. [b]3. I want to take a picture, but the user interface and other annoying icons are in the way and I can't remove them[/b] Don't worry. Unless it's an extremely annoying U.I/icon, it won't affect my judging. However, if you have the ability to remove it, it is appreciated. [b]4. Are robots and other artificial monsters/pets allowed?[/b] Yes. As long as they aren't too humanoid (think cp3o from Star Wars) they count as monsters or pets. [b]5. I wanted to take a picture of [x], but someone else beat me to it. can I submit my pictures anyway?[/b] Yes. Nobody has monopoly on any monster or pet. [b]6. Can i take pictures of Flight Rising?[/b] Only the coliseum. [size=5][b]Taking a Screenshot[/b][/size] [i]If you have any tips on more efficient ways to take pictures, I'd love to know! You'll often need to upload your pictures to an image hosting site before you can post them on Flight Rising. I personally use Imgur and a private tumblr account. [/i] [b]Computers (windows)[/b] a) Press the Prt Scr (Print Screen) button, and copy the picture into an image editing software (photoshop, paint, firealpaca, etc.). If your screenshot is of a windowed game that doesn't take up the full screen, you're free to crop it. b)If you're playing a steam game, press f12 and you'll automatically save pictures in a special folder. Once you quit the game a special window with all your pictures will pop up. I highly recommend you open the folder with the screenshots right then and there, as getting hold of it afterwards is a pain. If you lose track of where it is, the best course of action is to simply restart the game, take a picture, quit, and the special window will open again. [url=http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2966559]Or you could try and find the folder on your own.[/url] c) Many modern games have their own screenshot buttons, and often save the pictures in a special folder located in the c:/program(x86)/[game/developer] pathway. Google is your friend. [b]Wii U[/b] Press the home button when you think you have a good shot. Enter Miiverse. Find the community that corresponds to your game, post your picture there. Proceed by opening Miiverse on your computer. If you are stuck at the "sign in" screen with some annoying "configure initials settings" message, sign out. Access Miiverse while signed out, find the community you poster your pic in and voila! It's found! Note that you can't access your screenshot folder while signed out. Now, you can't link pictures directly from Miiverse, so you have to do the following. Open the image in a new tab so you max out it's size, copy the image, paste it into an image editing software, save it as PNG or JPG and upload it to the web like any regular picture.
