At first, the crew identified the Platypice as a differently-colored Seel. However, a series of quick tests showed that this was an entirely new species that had evolved to survive the harsh sub-zero temperatures. Platypice have thicker hides than their Ice-type counterparts, though interestingly, they seem to have lost their Ice typing in favor of Psychic typing, which allows them to create large psychic disturbances that part storms around their herds. Because of their environment, Platypice are nearly blind. However, their round snout is extremely sensitive, and is used in tandem with their psychic power to find prey.
