My Most Recent Lore Sample:
Mordred slank backwards into her throne. The tips of her feathers smoldered and ominously illuminated her hag-like features. Her blackened skin splintered and flaked off as she extended her arms along the sides of the seat. No sooner had the charred scales fallen from her body than an ember ignited anew to take its place.
Ancient stones that had once built this throne room an unrecounted time ago now gaped wide open with their broken mouths. All that remained of this decrepit place was a dark, polished throne and several hundred stairs that wound down from it to the entranceway. The castle’s rooftop, too, had been swallowed up by time and war. All the while, insatiable fires of another world lapped at the outer walls and engulfed the entire exterior. For this reason, what remained of the castle and all of its shambling chambers came to be known as the Firepit.
Flames here blazed with an unnatural line of purple at their center. Since the fires were stolen and relocated to the Firepit long ago, they had become magnificent and undying.
On the farthest side, a black gargoylesque creature stood hesitantly in the entranceway. Mordred’s talons clacked impatiently on the polished obsidian stone, and as she muttered in an ancient language, the creature was willed to move. His body jolted forwards and made its way towards the foot of the throne in unpredictable ways. He climbed each of the winding and narrow four hundred steps with an imperceptible speed. Then almost within the same breath, his stone limbs gave a loud creak and bowed heavily onto the craggy floor before her feet.
Mordred leaned forward suddenly, a small cloud of ash escaping from her sides.
Her muddy shadow poured over the front of the throne and over the sides of the narrow, crumbling steps. The creature crouched backwards out of fear that it might seep into him.
“Where is it now?” Her snaking tongue licked up the last of her words as she spat them.
Muffled tones came through the thin line of his mouth before Mordred released him from her grim marionette. As she did, he crumbled into a sprawling pile of ash and rocks.
“I will find no answers here.” She looked down upon the rubble and paused thoughtfully.
A short while passed in silence, save for the crackling of fire.
