Originally hailing from the Southern Icefields, Impure Permafrosts are a sentimental subspecies, well-known for their reclusive natures and cold temperaments. While the subspecies has now spread out across Sornieth they are still a rare sight to see.
These dragons are solitary collectors by nature, preferring to live deep within frozen caverns among their hoards then to converse with other dragon. Other dragons also tend to prefer it that way, as Impure Permafrosts have a strong scent of peat moss and copper from their stashes.
[item=Amber][item=Copper Spring][item=Cheerful Chime][item=Copper Pocketwatch]
The first Impure Permafrosts were, according to lore, a community of collectors that built their colony and lairs within the arctic permafrost under the seaside taiga. Generation after generation passed, and the dragons' appearances slowly shifted to become more like the ice and soil they laid in, as well as a new problem found- The dragons became reliant on being in the presence of copper. When away from Copper for too long, the dragons' coloration would shift away from the blues and browns they'd become known for.
For that reason, Copper is kept constantly by Impure Permafrosts, whether as a material in necklaces or in their lair where it can always be accessed and touched. Impure Permafrost dragons that are separated from copper for too long may permanently lose their color.

Impure Permafrosts require Copper nearby or on their person to keep their sparkling blues and earthly browns. Some will even go as far as to consume the ore on a daily basis to keep their hues. If the color begins to fade, it cannot be reattained. There are constant arguments in clans if the dragons that have lost their colors could still be considered Impure Permafrosts.[/columns]

While tradition doesn't make the dragon, many Impure Permafrosts start their names with "Iccen-"(ICK-sin), an old Draconic word meaning "icebound." While this practice has been omitted by many non-Ice Impure Permafrosts, others uphold it greatly, even if it isn't necessary for considering a dragon an Impure Permafrost.[/columns]

As important as copper to Impure Permafrosts is privacy. When leaving their lairs, this subspecies mostly prefers to keep their faces covered. Whether this is just part of tradition, used as a status symbol, or to prevent hard light from hitting their normally shaded eyes is unknowable. But, because of their affinity to masks, Impures are known for their craftsmanship and complex helm designs.[/columns]

What's the point of having underground lairs with nothing in them? Impure Permafrosts fill their lairs with all kinds of texts, statues, and antiquities. The freezing nature of their dens makes it easy to preserve all kinds of old memorabilia, and their sentimental nature guarantees their lairs will be full of stuff. It also makes thieving from their lairs a potential goldmine.[/columns]
