Introduction
Meet the Gladekeeper’s Beasts

tgc0F1b.png
Lore

Dragons from across Sornieth come to the Viridian Labyrinth to forge clans amongst the lush jungles, but very few carry the same, deep respect for the forests as the ancient tribes before them. The untamed lands are under threat by the expansion of modern dragon clans and Beastclans, causing more feral tribes of Nature dragons to retreat to the Shrieking Wilds. Some even journey to the Behemoth in attempts to seek help from the Gladekeeper herself, but the goddess does not intervene. Surely, her children can protect their homes themselves.

But, even a great deity such as the Gladekeeper could not have anticipated the arrival of the most recent threat to Sornieth. An Emperor, the undead fusion of several unfortunate Imperials, terrorizing the Sunbeam Ruins and all its inhabitants. It may only be a matter of time before the monster’s path of destruction reaches the rest of Sornieth. The Gladekeeper, now aware of the true danger, decides on a plan of action. She creates a new breed of dragon for the first time in ages. It is a great beast, designed to defend her precious creations. A monster of her very own…

The nature clans in the heart of the jungles are the first to catch glimpses of these new creations. They start calling them the Gladekeeper’s Beasts, or Gladebeasts for short, and merely assume they are mystical guardians sent to answer their prayers and desperate pleas. After all, some of them had become so isolated that they were completely unaware of the Emperor. The tribes begin treating the Beasts almost like new deities, leaving peace offerings for them in hopes that they will defend their homes in times of need. Whether or not the Beasts actually accept or understand this worshipping is another story.

The Gladekeeper’s Beasts now serve as vicious protectors of the Labyrinth and are an effective way of teaching disrespectful dragons or Beastclans to fear the untamable wilds of Nature.

Of course, not everything created by the dragon gods is perfect…

According to groups of explorers and truth-seekers, Gladebeasts are highly aggressive when it comes to defending their territories. Some say they will go as far as attacking their own kind, leaving each other with broken horns and missing feathers. In one case, an elder individual was missing its entire wing from a fight long ago. Even courtship involves combat, as the pair will headbutt and mock-charge to impress one another. To reduce confusion during this ritual, they emit odd cooing sounds to signal that they are not truly being aggressive.

Little is known about their nesting habits, but it is assumed that they still care for the hatchlings like most dragons. Lone juveniles are a rare sight due to their protective mothers, but once, one was supposedly spotted trying to steal an egg right from a clan’s nursery. There is no single explanation for that strange behavior and it is not even clear whether this was a young Beast or just a thief from a rival clan.

Currently, there are no known Gladebeasts living among other dragons in clan lairs. It isn’t even known if they can speak or understand traditional draconic at all; however, with populations slowly increasing, these behaviors could quite possibly change.

Lairs

From what is known about the Gladekeeper’s Beasts, they do not construct conventional lairs and instead dig a large ditch that they lay in during brief hibernation periods. Vegetation that collects on their backs and wings, along with their greenish colors, allows them to practically disappear into the forest floor. Small animals such as frogs, snakes, or rodents have a tendency to make nests on the backs of Gladebeasts while they sleep.

When they are not camouflaged in the ground, Gladebeasts take long and thorough patrols around their vast territories. Beasts with more claimed land hold a higher status among their own kind and will diligently protect their chosen forests from intruders; unfortunately for scholars who try to study them, Gladebeasts have a rather broad definition of “intruder.”

They can even be confused for statues by some unlucky targets, and the truth is often realized when it is too late to flee. When a Gladebeast does decide to strike, they do so by charging at full speed with their wings flared in aggression and their heads lowered like a bull. They often ram into their opponents with their reinforced skulls to stun them before using teeth and claws for the rest. They prefer this method due to their poor ability to use spells or charms. Gladebeasts do not seem to care much if they receive minor injuries during these charges, since they appear to have incredibly fast healing and, in some cases, the ability to regrow entire limbs. The only way to escape a charging Gladebeast is to flee from their territory, because they will often come to a halt at the borders of their chosen land. A major flaw in this strategy is that it is quite difficult to tell where one territory ends, and another begins. Nevertheless, they’ve managed to carve out a living in dusty caves and abandoned lairs. They have a fondness for the gemstones or fossils they stumble across, and may even keep some for themselves. Any dragon getting between a Cavebeast and their miniature hoard might as well have a death wish. Requirements
The Things Needed for Official Gladebeasts

tgc0F1b.png
Required Genes: True Beasts
(All True Beasts are Wildclaws only!)
dragon?age=1&body=34&bodygene=6&breed=10&element=10&eyetype=0&gender=1&tert=38&tertgene=15&winggene=26&wings=35&auth=2a1bf35085dda97e4ed193879097ed9983399a37&dummyext=prev.png

Gladebeast
Primary: Emerald to Moss // Bar, Clown, Falcon, Giraffe, Jaguar, Jupiter, Leopard, Python, Ripple, Savannah, Speckle, Tapir, Tiger, or Vipera
Secondary: Emerald to Moss // Edged or Seraph
Tertiary: Emerald to Moss // Scales only
Eyes: Nature flight only
Gladebeasts are the very first of all Beasts, originally created as protectors and warriors for the Gladekeeper’s lands. They come in a variety of greens to blend in with all types of habitat from murky swamps to lush flower gardens. It is said that, since True Beasts are poor spellcasters, their magic reserves instead nourish the plants and mosses covering their backs.

Cavebeast
Primary: Cinnamon to Auburn // Bar, Clown, Falcon, Giraffe, Jaguar, Jupiter, Leopard, Python, Ripple, Savannah, Speckle, Tapir, Tiger, or Vipera
Secondary: Cinnamon to Auburn // Edged or Seraph
Tertiary: Cinnamon to Auburn // Scales only
Eyes: Earth flight only
Cavebeasts are an interesting sort, ending up in the barren, rocky home of the Earthshaker. Nevertheless, they’ve managed to carve out a living in dusty caves and abandoned lairs. They have a fondness for the gemstones or fossils they stumble across, and may even keep some for themselves. Any dragon getting between a Cavebeast and their miniature hoard might as well have a death wish.

Forgebeast
Primary: Gloom to Eldritch // Bar, Clown, Falcon, Giraffe, Jaguar, Jupiter, Leopard, Python, Ripple, Savannah, Speckle, Tapir, Tiger, or Vipera
Secondary: Marigold to Pumpkin // Edged or Seraph
Tertiary: Gloom to Eldtrich // Scales only
Eyes: Fire flight only
Forgebeasts have a temper just as fiery as their homelands. Their bright feathers, despite the charred tips, are reminiscent of the legendary phoenix - or perhaps the Flamecaller herself. Such vibrant plumage serves as a stunning threat display, too. But if that doesn’t work, a Forgebeast won’t hesitate to go charging through flames and smoke to ward off unwanted visitors.

Squallbeast
Primary: Robin to Jade, or Fern to Spring // Bar, Clown, Falcon, Giraffe, Jaguar, Jupiter, Leopard, Python, Ripple, Savannah, Speckle, Tapir, Tiger, or Vipera
Secondary: Robin to Jade, or Fern to Spring // Edged or Seraph
Tertiary: Robin to Jade, or Fern to Spring // Scales only
Eyes: Wind flight only
Squallbeasts lean toward a more nomadic side than the rest. They’re nimble but far too large to fly, so they’ll settle for roaming the vast plateaus of the Windsinger’s domain instead. If not lurking amongst bamboo stalks and reeds, these Beasts will curiously trail behind the flocks of kites and balloons set loose by other dragons throughout the land.

Tidebeast
Primary: Ultramarine to Turquoise // Bar, Clown, Falcon, Giraffe, Jaguar, Jupiter, Leopard, Python, Ripple, Savannah, Speckle, Tapir, Tiger, or Vipera
Secondary: Ultramarine to Turquoise // Edged or Seraph
Tertiary: Ultramarine to Turquoise // Scales only
Eyes: Water flight only
Tidebeasts enjoy long walks on the beach - to scavenge for washed-up scraps, that is. Although they’d much rather explore the tide-pools, these bulky dragons are decent swimmers if the situation calls for it. When they aren’t busy wading in the shallows, Tidebeasts can be found preening their feathers like gigantic ducks to keep dry.

Gloombeast
Primary: Gloom to Wisteria, or Grape to Indigo // Bar, Clown, Falcon, Giraffe, Jaguar, Jupiter, Leopard, Python, Ripple, Savannah, Speckle, Tapir, Tiger, or Vipera
Secondary: Gloom to Wisteria, or Grape to Indigo // Edged or Seraph
Tertiary: Gloom to Wisteria, or Grape to Indigo // Scales only
Eyes: Shadow flight only
Gloombeasts spend their days stalking through the dense undergrowth of the Tangled Wood. Ambush hunting is their favorite activity, but sometimes it’s simply to startle creatures as a prank instead of attacking them. With toughened hide, they can even charge through patches of bramble without issue. Some Gloombeasts are said to exhibit bioluminescent markings, though this could just be the result of glowing fungi getting stuck to their plumage.

Primary: Antique to Grey // Bar, Clown, Falcon, Giraffe, Jaguar, Jupiter, Leopard, Python, Ripple, Savannah, Speckle, Tapir, Tiger, or Vipera
Secondary: Antique to Grey // Edged or Seraph
Tertiary: Antique to Eldritch // Scales only
Eyes: Ice flight only
Taigabeasts are easy to mistake for Gaolers, with their bulky forms and shaggy coats. But, unfortunately for most, they are not bound to guarding prisons or the Icewarden’s command. These Beasts are one of the fiercest when it comes to fights among their own kind. After all, a reliable feeding ground can mean the difference between life and death in the Southern Icefield.

Secondary: Stonewash to Teal, Sand to Latte, or Copper // Edged or Seraph
Tertiary: Stonewash to Teal, Sand to Latte, or Copper // Scales only
Eyes: Lightning flight only
Stormbeasts are renowned for their ability to store electricity - which is fitting for the Stormcatcher’s region. Their downy feathers are almost always puffed out from static, and they can deliver quite a shock if touched. They stray away from the spires and lightning farms, preferring the open scrubland as their hunting grounds. Required Genes: Other Beasts

Half-Beasts
(Any breeds)
Primary: Any colors // Any genes
Secondary: Any colors // Edged or Seraph
Tertiary: Any colors // Scales only
Eyes: Any flight
Beasts are imperfect in many ways, one of which being genetics. Rather than offspring being born as one species or another, True Beasts tend to produce mutated hatchlings. Each individual can differ wildly in appearance, with some looking like a perfect half-way cross between their parents’ breeds, and others only showing hints of their beastly heritage.

Dronebeast
(Wildclaws only; Must be XXY or XXX)
Primary: Any colors // Wasp
Secondary: Any colors // Bee
Tertiary: Any colors // Scales
Eyes: Any flights
Cross-subspecies variant with M42's Hivemind
"The results of assimilating a Gladebeast. These behemoth drones resemble disgustingly powerful Wildclaws, and are far larger and more dangerous than their forest-dwelling cousins. A Gladebeast is a difficult target for any hive to assimilate, but if one manages to acquire and assimilate one... gods help you." - M42

Amalgabeast
(Must be XXX, XXY, XYX, XYY; Skink/Spinner for Royals only)
Primary: Any colors // Iridescent, Jupiter, Leopard, Lionfish, Metallic, Pinstripe, Poison, Python, Skink, or Slime
Secondary: Any colors // Alloy, Clouded, Morph, Noxtide, Saturn, Shimmer, Sludge, Spinner, Toxin, or Trail
Tertiary: Any colors // Scales
Eyes: Any flights (Multi-gaze or Plague Primal preferred, though)
Cross-subspecies variant with GlitterDCMarvel's Amalgamates
Amalgamates are already a force to be reckoned with, but the addition of a Beast’s temper and size can certainly increase the danger. Their natural aggression toward creatures of the Hivemind, combined with the Amalgamates’ hunting habits, make for a truly relentless predator of drones. The strange, sticky substance that forms their bodies also helps them traverse any terrain with ease while on the prowl. Few creatures are safe from an ‘Amalgabeast’.

Blightbeast
(More powerful Blightbeasts have Smoke or Ringlets)
Primary: Grey/Black range // Any genes
Secondary: Green range // Edged or Seraph
Tertiary: Blue range // Scales, Smoke, or Ringlets
Eyes: Plague flight only
