Dragons involved: Lisabet, Xara & Zalis

This takes place years and years ago. The three of them are grandparents now, telling this story to the hatchlings to discourage them from wandering too far.

Zalis, ever curious insists that he and his friends go inspect the hollow. The itch to prove that the legends were true was getting to be too much. He's tried his best to convince anyone and everyone to come with him, but only Xara and Lisabet are willing. Xara insists that she doesn't believe in the legend, but her nervousness betrays her. Lisabet is steadfast in her opinion that it's just a tale to scare the hatchlings.

“Are you SURE old lady Hazel ain’t real?” Xara whined.

“Yeah, and I’m gonna prove it! Stop being such a hatchling! That droopy old dragon ain’t nothing but a story!”

Three dragon heads swiveled in her direction, eyes wide with surprise. But the only thing they could see was a pair of glowing green eyes fading into darkness as a low chuckle surrounded them...

Luna whined. "You just wanted to freak Luna out, didn't you?" Aramintha said. Nightbringer snickered. "Ara gets it. You're so calm all the time, but it looks like I found your weakness." "I'm not calm all the time! You just can't tell because of my accent," Luna said. "Besides, Hazel only messes with kids and teens. You know that. And we're the only kids in the lair." "Besides Bandi," Aramintha said. "Like I said, even I'm not that evil," Nightbringer said. Luna's frills stiffened in irritated resignation. "Fine, fine, I get it. Let's get this over with." The Dragon Cast:
Arnora, Nightingale, & Aurelia

36612357_350.png

Strong, loyal, and often skeptic; as a part-time cryptozoologist student and have studied the most known creatures to occupy Sornieth, she most times believe that not all things are as they seem to be, but there are some stories Arnora feels are not true and are only tall tales to scare little hatchlings and teach the moralities behind them-- and the fabled story of Old Hazel, is among one of the most nefarious legends she certainly doesn't believe in the slightest.

Timid, quiet, and inquisitive; her heart is set in the right place when it comes to magic, but performing them without realizing the consequence is an occupational hazard. Most of the time it wasn't her fault, but she believed that her clumsiness came from supposedly encountering Old Hazel when she was a youngling; perhaps it's just sheer bad luck, but young Nightingale thinks that visiting the old witch in her swampland would reverse this curse once and for all-- if she even existed in the first place, that is. The only other problem... is that she's frightened of her.

39696292_350.png

45978673_350.png

Optimistic, adventurous, and a devotee of any supernatural wonders; as far as her studies go, she is the only dragon who believes in the ancient spirits that control the seasonal weather changes (and not to mention of her supposed encounter with the spirit of fall, itself), and much to her other beliefs in the strange and otherworldly, she also feels the existence of the famous Old Hazel legend, even after first hearing the story when she was a hatchling.

I'll think up a full lore for these three in a bit.

The darker colored Wildclaw whispered, her deep lavender eyes scanning the area through her mask to keep an eye out for any potential danger. Her head was low though on high alert while her wings slightly unfolded themselves in case she needed to escape. Her steps were slow, attempting to avoid making as much sound as they could despite the many layers of fallen leaves scattered on the ground floor. However careful she was, however, she couldn't stop the other two she was with. "Oh stop being such a wimp, Enyo." Laughed the second Wildclaw, the bones decorating her body rattled with the sound. The grin upon her face only grew as she could feel the glare from the first Wildclaw named Enyo. "Look, what we heard was only a story, right? So there's no harm in checking this out. Besides, what could possibly go wrong?"[/columns] [columns]"Many things, actually, and if I can avoid it, I would like to." Enyo huffed, lifting her head up from her cautious state in a way to prove to the other Wildclaw, Mona, that she was not afraid. Her eyes, on the other hand, kept a lookout of their surroundings as the cautious leader she is. "But we're the Pale Omen, Enyo. We're the very tribe that everyone else should be afraid of, right?" Mona chuckled, hoping to urge her Wildclaw companion further and have some fun. "We shouldn't let a little story scare us. Besides, Alo is having a grand time here!" Alo, the small Pearlcatcher hatchling, was actually in front of the two as if leading the two Wildclaws instead. He was humming away while carrying his pearl close to him - the pearl itself held a spirit, which seem to be swirling around excitedly. He didn't bother to look back at the two girls nor put in a say of their conversation. His mind was focused on one thing, and one thing only. "Look! We're almost there! That's her hollow!" Alo exclaimed excitedly, picking up the pace towards the entrace.[nextcol] [/columns] [columns] [nextcol] Although this was their destination, the two Wildclaws hushed their voices, any bickering and taunting was now past them as they stared into the cavern. Their steps slowed to a stop before the cave, watching the hatchling in their peripheral vision. No words were said from the two. "Well, come on already!" Alo spoke up, his head turned to face them with a wide grin on his face. It was a look that signified that he perhaps knew more than what he gave - but he was technically an older spirit trapped within another smaller body, his actual soul really being in the pearl. "Are you sure this is such a good idea?" The darker colored Wildclaw whispered, her deep lavender eyes scanning the area through her mask to keep an eye out for any potential danger.

Besides, what could possibly go wrong?"

"Many things, actually, and if I can avoid it, I would like to." Enyo huffed, lifting her head up from her cautious state in a way to prove to the other Wildclaw, Mona, that she was not afraid.

Besides, Alo is having a grand time here!"

Alo, the small Pearlcatcher hatchling, was actually in front of the two as if leading the two Wildclaws instead. He was humming away while carrying his pearl close to him - the pearl itself held a spirit, which seem to be swirling around excitedly. He didn't bother to look back at the two girls nor put in a say of their conversation. His mind was focused on one thing, and one thing only. "Look! We're almost there! That's her hollow!" Alo exclaimed excitedly, picking up the pace towards the entrace.

Although this was their destination, the two Wildclaws hushed their voices, any bickering and taunting was now past them as they stared into the cavern.

The way he spoke up, standing there in front of the cave as it framed around his small body, the darkness of the cavern looming above him, caused the two female Wildclaws to stand there, stunned. For a moment, they could have sworn that this was all planned as they soon saw a pair of glowing green eyes appear from the darkness, quite obvious that they were staring right back at the two.

"Now then," Alo spoke once more, confidence was scarily clear in his tone. "if you two are ready..." Enyo and Mona both flinched when the grin widened further on the hatchling's face as he backed away into the cavern, causing his voice to echo. As if on cue, the fog started to appear, growing around them and crawling up their legs. The temperature dropped and the atmosphere became a bit unpleasant, even for the two Wildclaws that were just boasting their courage not too long ago. The sound of the young dragon's voice speaking up once more spooked them, hearing the faint sound of laughter deep within the cavern.

Aya, Efren, and Siorsa have all come to the hollow for their own reasons. Aya, a young Ridgeback who excels in sticking her nose where it doesn't belong, hopes to find something spooky in the thickly wooded forest. Efren, a dramatic Fae who spends most her time telling stories and acting out scenes, hopes to find a good tale to tell. And, finally, Siorsa, the oldest of the group, wants nothing more than to show to the other two that this dragon is probably a tired old woman who just wants to be left alone.

The only light in the hollow emanates weakly from Efren, whose frills and belly glow thanks to her light magic. Siorsa and Aya walk underneath the tiny fae, who flies above them, acting as a guide through the tangled woods.

"I bet she has, like, seventy eyeballs," Aya breaks the tense silence with her ever-so-eloquent thoughts, turning to face Siorsa, "like, y'know that one baby Carruthers told us he saw at the market, with eyeballs all on its flank? Like that."

"Those are caused by recent mutations," groans the bogsneak, "something to do with the magic of the clans, and how it's been going haywire. If she's as old as you all think she is, she won't have 'like, seventy eyeballs.'"

Instead of replying, the ridgeback simply sticks her tongue out, and turns to continue the trek towards the caves in relative silence. Every now and then, she'll let out a yelp, apparently startled by something in the forest, until Efren flies towards the disturbance and uncovers an innocent animal, or a fallen branch, or other harmless somethings.

Why did she even bother coming, Siorsa thinks to herself in amusement, if she's so easily scared?

Finally, the group of dragons comes up upon a pond, surrounded by a small clearing in the forest. Siorsa notices almost immediately that the mud surrounding the watering hole is freshly disturbed; large, clawed footprints lead away from the pond, deeper into the forests ahead. It takes her all of thirty seconds to recognize the footprints of a bogsneak.

Well, she exists, Siorsa thinks to herself with a frown, placing her own claws into the footprints absently, but that doesn't mean anything.

From behind her, she can hear Aya's yelps of terror once again as she discovers the footprints in the ground. "She was here! These have to be hers!"

"Oooo," Efren finally speaks, flittering down from her vantage point above and landing on Aya's head, "she's real..." If it weren't for Efren's wide eyes and flared frills, she would sound utterly unimpressed.

"It looks like she left recently. We should get going if we're really going to follow this poor bogsneak to her home and invade her privacy."

Efren's crests flare defensively. "You make it sound like we're the bad guys."

A shrug is the bogsneak's only response before she moves away from the pond, following the trail through the dark forest.

Compared to the journey it took to reach the pond, the path to the caves is just a quick jaunt away. Before long, the group of dragons are upon the mouth of a rocky cavern, covered by a dense canopy of moss and vines. From inside, something glows dimly, though Siorsa can't see it well.

"Says the one who can see in the dark!" she whines back. "I'm not leading the way into some ancient dragon's creepy house!"

"What? I'm not that old."

Silence quickly envelopes the group. Siorsa's crests flare, and she extends her neck, trying to peer around Aya's enormous frame. But which way did Efren go?
