Workers
Workers are by far the most common symbeeote; their are usually at least a few per hive, with their duties ranging from protection, to construction, to hatchling & larva care. Symbeeotes have a special pouch for honey that not only feeds their young, but can also cure wounds when applied as a salve.
Nurturer symbeeotes specialize in both childcare and healing for the whole hive. They can even produce their own honey, but rely on the bees to gather the necessary pollen.
Guardian symbeeotes protect the hive from intruders, such as parasites or honey thieves. They are quick in battle, and use their honey to heal themselves and their allies in a pinch.
Builder symbeeotes can chew up tougher materials than the bumbles; with their dragon teeth, their can grind a variety of materials with their saliva to make a paste to patch holes in the hive and reinforce them beyond what the bees can do without their help.
Paper
Colors: beige, cream, antique (skink antique only)
These symbeeotes are from hives dug into tunnels in the giant trees of the Viridian Labyrinth. Rather than bark, they chew lots of pulp when building their hives, giving them much lighter coloring than their more common counterparts. Otherwise, they are much the same, but some say they tend to be more forthcoming due to their lack of reliable camouflage.
Coral
Colors: Indigo-Eggplant Primary (If skink, excludes storm)
Indigo-Eggplant Secondary in addition to main subspecies secondary colors.
Coral Symbeeotes live with coral carpenters rather than the more common bumbles; by extension, they live by the sea, and the large amount of coral used in the construction of their hives is reflected in their primary colors. The difference in the plant life around the sea also affects their honey, leading to occasional slight although distinctive variations in color.
Queen/ Drone
Eye type: Facet
Although it would probably be more accurate to call both the male and female of this rare variant “queen,” it led to some confusion in some circles, leading to the recent introduction of the term “drone.”
These variants are the result of a long lineage of symbeeotes, and have the ability to use their magic in a way similar to a bee queen; while unlike bees, all symbeeotes are fertile, queen or drone symbeeotes can influence bumbles to follow them, can command individual workers, and can even move the hive.
These powers also work on other symbeeotes, and to a lesser extent on all creatures, making them a force to reckon with. Due to their power, when a queen or drone is born they are raised from birth to understand the responsibility that comes with such abilities.
Coral symbeeotes also have queens and drones.
