42233813_350.png Nightspinners are an elusive, feral kind of dragon that originates from the Starwood Strand. Many beleive the Nightspinners are a myth, but others have been lucky enough to catch the rare glimpse of the fleeting breed.

The Nightspinners are born with a powerful magical force within their bodies. They can cast illusions and spells that would take normal dragons years to learn from the moment they open their eyes after birth. As Nightspinners grow older, their already powerful magic grows even stronger. At full maturiy, a Nightspinner can appear and disappear at will, cast multiple illusions at a time, and even alter the minds of other dragons if needed.

They were first created on accident, born in an Arcane clan that didn't expect a surge in the magical forces around their nests. Once the hatchlings were born, their parents only got to gaze upon them before they disappeared before their parents' very eyes, never to be seen by the clan again.... until one day.. or night, because they are a nocturnal subspecies

Behaviors of the Nightspinners
These behaviors are cannon to the species and should be somewhat followed in your dragon's lore.
[columns]The Nightspinners can cast illusions and spells that would take normal dragons years to learn from the moment they open their eyes after birth. Because of this, it isn't uncommon for young hatchlings to randomly phase away from their nests and become lost, or to become invisible and cause their parents unnessesary confusion. However, thanks to their feral tendencies, hatchlings can survive on their own shortly after they hatch and can learn to control their magic rather quickly on their own. Despite this, the hatchlings can often have some difficulty learning how to hunt or forage without the intervention of their parents or an older dragons. Therefore, younger Nightspinners are usually the cause of Nightspinner sightings as they attempt to observe other dragons from the shadows in order to learn certain skills if they can't find another Nightspinner to learn from. [nextcol] [/columns] Once they are adults, however, they usually become fully in control of their magic, able to do anything on will, such as disappearing and reappearing, and are fully capable hunters or gatherers. However, it is not uncommon for Nightspinners to stay in their birth tribe or become loners. It's entirely possible that the some Nightspinners have never even seen an Eclipsespinner, even though the breed is of the Nightspinner subspecies. Not much is known of this incredibly rare breed except the rumors passed on in night-time whisperings from those who have claimed to see them. They will occasionally be seen in a Nightspinner tribe, it's said, and are greatly respected by other Nightspinners. They have a hide as dark or darker than the night, dark wings pulsing with a lighter magic, and glowing markings that pulsate with their magic as they cast spells. Some have also been seen with skeleton like marks and the underbelly genes of their species. However, unlike their Banescale brethren, they were never encased in the ice. Nightbanes retreated into hiding before the great war, and fell into hiding in the wildest, most uncharted areas. Some retreated to dense, almost impassible forests while others fell into dormancy in cave systems. Only now, after the Banescales have returned, have the Nightbanes been sighted. Unlike their modern successors, Nightbanes rarely have shimmering coats. Many Nightbanes instead take on a marbled or patchy look, which works as better natural camouflage. Those that do have shimmering coats are marvels, both in appearance and magic, even though they tend to physically resemble their modern counterparts. The Nightbanes also display their lighter markings on a different level as well, seemingly having the ability to be between both Nightspinners and Eclipse Spinners in colors and markings on their wings and bodies. Some Nightbanes even emit an eerie fog or grow skeletal armor that shines brightly at night. Nightbanes are rarely seen in tribes, much like Eclipsespinners, but this is more or less due to their breed differences. Nightbanes tend to have stronger, more chaotic magic, which can often be up to three times as strong as a normal Nightspinner. This also makes them more dangerous, and many times they aren't allowed to rise to Lafaan status in a clan due to their unpredictable nature. Nightbanes will, however, make small coalitions among themselves, and settle near tribes rather than be active participants in them.
