Well, I only have one dragon I kept after hatching from my own nests, and never intended to exalt him. However I bought many dragons that would've been exalted if I wouldn't have bought them. :)

Here's Aestus, whom I bought for 4000T or so... he had Basic/Stripes/Crackle genes, but he was so adorable and I saw something is him, just couldn't let him go. Look at him now, he became such a handsome guy!

He had two Basics and a Circuit, and I didn't even like his colors that much, not to mention, Ridgebacks are not really my cup of tea. Now he's totally grown on me, I have so much work (and funds) in him, I can't even imagine my lair without this boy!

Bud here was my first dragon and had the [i]ugliest[/i] colors! No genes could have saved him, and I just about exalted him like I did with my female progen.
...Then I risked it and bought a Scatterscroll just for the heck of it, scried him after using it, and fell in love. I've since spent a lot getting him gened up. That Scatterscroll saved him, and now he's my absolute favorite. <3
