Progress is happening!! I wanna focus on the festival so she won’t be getting anything else for a while, but I think I want to get her daub eventually [s]i’m a sucker for that gene tbh[/s] Still thinking of a name for now, but here she is! She and her close childhood friend, Cyrus, make a pact to go together, figuring that at least one of them will return that way. When she tries, however, she discovers that she cannot take the infection from her friend and realises she has failed the trials. Another Fae, this one purple and blue, fluttered in the air next to the first. The final dragon was an orange Guardian, with pale blue wings and brown gembond studding her hide. Remy approached them with the Mirror she'd spent her trials with (whose name was Locke, apparently) at her side. The red Mirror approached, his tail flicking to and fro. "You're both alive." This was his idea of a greeting, Remy guessed. "Show me your powers, then. Show me the powers of a Necromancer." The purple and blue Fae, whose eyes betrayed her as being born of the Water Flight, approached as well, as if curious. Remy shrank back, angling herself slightly behind her companion. She had no idea how to prove herself to these strange dragons. Locke, thankfully, took the lead in this area. The Mirror stepped forward and extended a paw out to the other dragon, touching his foreleg. Immediately, green pustules began to form on his skin. One burst and the red dragon hissed in pain. Locke graced him with his touch again and the illness faded as quickly as it had appeared. That seemed good enough, for the red dragon then turned to Remy. "And you?" Remy moved forward on shaking legs and Locke watched her closely, his tail twitching in what almost seemed like nervousness. Remy placed one of her claws on the shoulder of the red dragon (whom she would later learn was the clan leader, Whyvrith), and concentrated. The Mirror began to pale and soon his legs gave out as he collapsed onto the ground, his strength slowly leaving him. The green and purple Fae lifted off of his back and circled his body in alarm. Remy figured that was a decent example and attempted to will the illness away. It didn't work. No matter how she tried, the dragon in front of her only grew weaker and weaker. She was watching him die in front of her and there was nothing she could do about it. She gasped and Locke stepped in, gently nudging her aside as he cured Whyvrith easily. The Water Fae was staring at Remy now as the clan leader got to his feet and shook himself. "A Necroservus..." A small voice murmured. "Able to spread disease, but not cure it. She's not a full-fledged Necromancer." The Fae explained the meaning of the word to all present, but mostly directed her comment at her clan leader. Locke kept shooting glances at Remy; it was hard for her to read the expressions of Mirror dragons, but he almost looked... guilty? But why? "A Necroservus?" He snorted. "What good will one of those do us?" The Fae paused for moment, her head cocked, as if puzzled. "Well, Necroservus normally serve a Necromancer in whatever purpose they decide for themselves. At least, that's what I think Mother meant. I... it's difficult for me to read her intentions. But I think she'll be useful. She should stay." Whyvrith snorted again, then addressed Remy. "Very well. You can stay and serve our new Necromancer if you'd like." With that, the assembled dragons began to leave, talking among themselves. Remy turned to Locke, but the Necromancer wouldn't look at her. "You should stay," He eventually asserted, "We're the only ones who understand what this is like. I think we should stay together. Don't worry, I won't treat you like a servant." Remy didn't really have to think about it. Where else would she go if she decided to leave the clan? Instead, she nodded. "I think I'd like that." kmrikkari's Remy

When they returned to the Brunested clan, four dragons were waiting for them, one male and three female. The male was a Mirror, his body and wings shades of red, except for his underbelly. A green and purple Fae rested upon his back.

Show me the powers of a Necromancer."

The purple and blue Fae, whose eyes betrayed her as being born of the Water Flight, approached as well, as if curious.

"And you?"

Remy moved forward on shaking legs and Locke watched her closely, his tail twitching in what almost seemed like nervousness.

"What good will one of those do us?"

The Fae paused for moment, her head cocked, as if puzzled.

"Well, Necroservus normally serve a Necromancer in whatever purpose they decide for themselves. At least, that's what I think Mother meant. I... it's difficult for me to read her intentions. But I think she'll be useful. She should stay."

Whyvrith snorted again, then addressed Remy.

Remy didn't really have to think about it. Where else would she go if she decided to leave the clan? Instead, she nodded.

"I think I'd like that."

Kobari paused at the threshold of the inner sanctum, mindful of propriety despite the urgency of his errand. There was no smell of smoke, no panting cries or other signs of Kishna at work, and so he entered with fins down and heat pits shuttered. Inside, two mirrors lay facing one another, feet curled inward like the halves of a broken circle. Their conversation was an ebbing murmur, Juyn’s silken laughter rippling over the quiet tread of Kobari’s footfalls. He hissed a quiet announcement of his presence. Immediately Kishna’s head snapped around, her fins splayed in outraged affront, but on seeing her mate she relaxed back into complacency. Juyn stared him down with a smile in her eyes, the look of a friend and foe rolled into one. “The eggs have hatched,” he announced without preamble. “The pups have opened their eyes.” Kishna cocked her head, tongue flicking in bemusement. “All three?” She asked. Kobari nodded. “And they are strong? Healthy?” A short pause, but again Kobari inclined his head. “Then you hardly needed to make a special procession down from the hatching grounds just to tell me that. Bless them and feed them. I will see to them this evening.” It was a clear dismissal, but Kobari held his ground, heat pits shuttered again in apology. “They are healthy, but there is something,” he paused, obviously picking and choosing his words, “—different. About their eyes.” “Different,” Kishna repeated. “Different how?” “I will show you.” Kobari took two careful steps backward before turning and disappearing through the entrance. A moment later he returned, dragging three mirror pups in on a rough, hemp blanket, their tiny feet splayed to keep from tumbling backward into its folds. He dragged them before Kishna and then stepped back, allowing the Necromancer queen to study her newest offspring. The day-old hatchlings huddled together in the middle of the blanket, their feet overlapping and tails tangled together. The smallest chirped anxiously after his father, but quickly fell silent as Kishna loomed over them. As one they stared up at this sudden presence, their mother just one more unknown in a frightening new world. Three pairs of eyes, all Plague red, but … different, as Kobari had said. The eldest had eyes dark as clotted blood, the red so deep as to almost disappear into the shadows of her eye sockets. The male’s eyes were of several hues, the greenish yellow at their centers swirling out into crimson; the whole glowing like the heart of the Wyrmwound. The youngest most closely resembled a typical plague dragon, but her eyes still shone a shade or two darker than was expected. Kishna studied each in turn, and when she spoke she didn’t look away. “Fetch me an offering. Quickly.” Juyn stretched and climbed to her feet, knowing better than to presume Kishna was talking to her Necromancer mate. “Tygaru won’t be pleased. That’s the third one this week.” “Viei has been hunting in the Kelp Beds.” Kobari offered. “The beast clan pens are overflowing with mammertees and depins. Ask for one of them.” When Juyn returned it was with a squirming abyss striker in hand. Turquoise spots flashed along the creature’s hide as it thrashed back in forth, mouth gaping as it drowned in air. “Tygaru says it won’t last more than an hour out of water. I assume you’ll be done with it by then.” Kobari frowned at the insolence lacing Juyn’s tone, but the spotted mirror was his mate’s favorite and often got away with things that would see another dragon struck down. Kishna took the eel without comment, paralyzing it with a touch. It lay prone on the alter before her, flanks twitching with each thwarted breath. “Bring me fire, light, and shadow,” Kishna intoned, her words taking on the cadence of ritual. Juyn set an ivory bowl on the corner of the alter, a black twist of wick floating in a single drop of oil at its center. When the wick was lit it flared to life and then dimmed immediately as the oil was consumed. Juyn fed it more from a metal pitcher, drop by drop, so that the flame guttered and flickered, but never went out. The room danced with the shadows it threw. Smoke slowly filled the air. “Mother, bringer of eternal struggle and eternal triumph, show me your will.” Kishna reached out with her left hand and caressed the abyss striker with the tip of a polished claw. The beast went rigid, a single violet scale blackening beneath the touch. Rot crawled outward from the point of contact, slow and inexorable as an encroaching tide. The tendrils of plague fractured and fractured again in an increasingly complex pattern across its side and Kishna followed each line as if it were script inked straight from Mother’s hand. Over her shoulder, Kobari also followed the branching path of sickness, though the jumping candlelight made him squint uncertainly. “They will be Necromancers,” he said, hesitantly. “Of course they will.” Kishna snapped. “They are our children. That was never in question. Now be quiet.” Kobari bowed and backed away. Sensing his nearness, the hatchlings squeaked and tumbled toward him. He silenced them with a gentle touch of his nose to theirs, and they curled up on his feet. “The elements are raging,” Kishna said, her eyes taking on the same feverish tint of the abyss striker’s hide. “Mother brings us something new.” And then, she began to write. ----------------------------------------------------- Necromancers for sale! (They hatched five days ago, I've been too busy to make a post) Each are 20kt [s](unusual eyes)[/s] SOLD [s](rare eyes)[/s] SOLD [s](uncommon eyes)[/s] SOLD

I'm baaaaack! Thank you to @TheCell for holding down the fort in my absence, couldn't do this without you bud!

@EssayOfThoughts I didn't have time to respond at the time but I read Nosoi's story (at work, actually) and just absolutely loved it! I could read a whole novel of her story with Aerugosanguis and Haema. It was so touching the way each have come from their own failures but have lived through it and grown from it, and it was perfect how Nosoi's experience helped her heal the bonds between Aerugosanguis and Haema and Intestinum. Each of them have such full personalities, it's a joy to learn more about them and their experiences. I don't know how you're going to pick and choose what sections to put into Nosoi's bio. You may just have to copy and paste the whole thing, haha. If you add more to their story please do let us know! I'd love to read more of their journey!

@RoaringSpector Oh man I love Swifthawk's apparel! The lion helmet is a great touch, it really adds to the aesthetic. It seems the presence of such a virulent menace is going to throw your clan into disarray. Keep us updated as you develop the lore, I can't wait to see what happens.

@foxghosts Ahh Cyrus and the WC are such great finds, congratulations!! I've always loved the thylacine aesthetic on spirals, their long bodies show off the stripes so well, and WC make the best raptor Necros. I'm glad the WC was in range to be a servus, though I totally would have bent the rules for such a lovely derg XD P.S. AWESOME accent for the WC. I've never seen that one before, it's perfect! And I'm loving the lore you have going for them (though I feel bad for the poor WC girl). Please ping me when they're all gened up (including Kindle!) so I can add them to the registry.

@Balam @WolfandCrow @reotheleo Thanks so much for your creative entries! You guys are going to make this a super hard contest to judge. I love that we have such talented writers in our community <3

@zombie0424 Oooh a ridgie Ghoul! I think that's a first, how exciting! Fuil is lovely, and he's got a great plague accent! I'll get him registered right away.

@3idolon I'm really glad you enjoyed it! I will absolutely let you know if I add to her story at all. And yeah I do think I may have to just copypaste it all whole cloth into her bio because excerpts would be a nightmare. Or, I do a basic summary in her bio and then link to the doc (and any subsequent docs) at the end.
