" Thank you for your interest in my research, my friend! My name is Starjumper and I am the leading researcher and astronomer for my clan. But I am also a Draconastris.

What are Draconastris? I was hoping you'd ask! We are special children born into the world through a phenomena in that originated in the stars. Our other-worldly powers materialized from the essence of the comets which dragons wish upon. Our astral selves drifted down and were cast unto Sorineth's unborn hatchlings, thus birthing the Draconastris species of Dragon.

Oh, it's not as confusing as it seems, my dear! You can look at us and see it as this. We are both children of this world, and shooting stars.
In many records there have been instances where a glowing substance would drift down from the sky during the darkness of night. Those glittering spectacles always landed on a specific litter of eggs. And at least one of a litter would be granted powers unlike any of it's siblings. It was from these happenings that I found how I was born, and why I have dedicated myself into the research of our conception.

Many of us believe we are the embodiment of another dragon's wishes. Those who wish on a shooting star actually cause the star to react-- but all a comet knows to do is send that wish back! And that wish is what enchants the eggs Draconastris are born from. "

" Our purpose is to use our special star-endued power to make miracles happen. Not all of us are chosen for greatness, so to say, of course. In fact, there are few Draconastris in history that have ever done anything magnificent. But it is an amazing story to hear of one of my kin to ever grow from a hatchling, search for the reason of their being, and find the very soul who wished for them to be.

Some wish for love, others wish for advice, and especially the young ones with hearts so pure will wish for even the silly things upon shooting stars.

We're given wonderful and strange magical powers that revolve around Illusion and Conjuration. To use those we can truly enchant those who are around us, and bring a real meaning of other-worldly wonder to the world! "

What do Draconastris look like?

It's pretty simple! They vary greatly in color and in genes. But the most distinctive value in appearance for Draconastris is the contrast between the primary color, and the secondary and tertiary colors. They are never monochrome. All of them have very vibrant color palettes, as to have scales/fur that look like the darkness of space with decorations (stars, nebulae, comet trails, etc. ) that pop out!

The primary color is always significantly darker than the secondary and tertiary colors.

There are also Draconastris-specific genes that reflect their alien, colorful personalities and abilities.

Those marked with a ♦ are the most common.
STRIKE-THROUGH GENES ARE NO LONGER VALID

Primary Genes Include:

• Basic
• Iridescent ♦
• Metallic ♦
• Jupiter
• Skink
• Savannah
Secondary Genes Include:

• Basic
• Shimmer ♦
• Alloy ♦
• Bee
• Saturn
• Safari
• Spinner
Teritary Genes Include:

• Runes ♦
• Glimmer
• Smoke
• Opal (Uncommon; meant for dragons with a large concentration of astral magic)

Common Primary Colors:

[Note!] The contingency of colors doesn't matter! Which means they can be XYY or XYZ, as long as the secondary and tertiary colors greatly stand out from the primary.

Magic abilities:
i2s1k7a.png

Draconastris are moderately clairvoyant and attuned to the magic of the stars.

Some can project this knowledge and magic into objects, often staffs or crystals.

Staffs are often used as weapons; a way to bear the magic they would rather not exert from their bare claws. However are only useful when held by Draconastris. To any other dragon the staff would be useless. Astral magic is completely different from the magic one learns from their own element. If practiced, it can become stronger.

Crystals are often used by fortune tellers or seers that can use their abilities to see into predict the future or see what can't be seen. Many Draconastris use fortune telling as a career, since it comes to them much easier than it would if they were a normal dragon.

----

Lore Note! Pearlcatchers have attempted to enchant their own pearls with astral magic, but old stories say that those few that did so were cast away from the mortal pain. They dissipated into space dust, leaving only an empty cracked pearl behind.

It's easy to say that enchanting your own pearl is not a way to get stronger or more connected to the stars... but perhaps there will be one who can succeed at this and become an Ascendant Draconastris.

Ascendant Draconastris are only for Pearlcatchers and must have the opal tertiary genes. Their astral powers are almost uncontrollable, making them a danger to most.

At this point in their lives, finding the soul that wished for them would be futile. They have found a higher purpose in life, growing beyond what the stars had planned for them.

For the most seasoned sorcerer, an Ascendant Draconastris can overcome the mortal barriers for knowledge and wisdom. Most of these dragons do not take to normal lives and will often leave their homes to further their minds and power. Some disappear--- leaving their families to believe the master of astral magic himself, The Arcanist, removed them from the world to become one of his acolytes.

----

In addition to this, all Draconastris simply find wonder and empathy easier to express. Many of them who aren't aware of what they are will find themselves closer to the Arcane interests, even if not an arcane dragon themselves.

gI6oERp.png
Those who have enough practice can create 'Nebula Projections' or conjurations of starry smoke.

Most use this for their own entertainment. Those who are artists will include brilliant displays of sparkles and color in dance performances. Some use the ability to tell stories, or speak in pictures. (Which is really useful for those who don't speak beastclan or Coatl!) In a way, when one sees beautiful magic like this, they tend to accept it as a universal language.

As a 'bonus' to that, it's said that if a Draconastris gets angry enough, they can snort stardust from their nostrils! (Don't ask Starjumper if this is true because she'll deny the many times she's done it.)

KZohlPH.png
Forgive the gosh-awful depiction of it.

Comet trails

All Draconastris have the ability to produce trails of light and color from their wings during flight. For those with more power than others, it's not only brighter but can extend to up to three times their body length.

It's more visible when the dragon is flying high in the air. During the night, the trail will actually glow-- so it's very visible during the nighttime. A dragon moving slowly at a high altitude may give off an effect similar to the Aurora Borealis when seen from below.

Comet trails can be a nuisance or even dangerous for some dragons. Not everyone wants to stick out like a disco ball when flying through beastclan territory, or when trying to avoid the malevolent of their own kin.
To one's luck with this, the comet trails are only visible for those Draconastris who have actually practiced using Astral magic. Even Starjumper, for example, only lets off a slight white-colored wind when she's flying-- which gives no more an effect than if her wings were glowing.

There are also potions that can be crafted that can curb any glowing attribute to a Draconastris. It's hard to look normal when you inner shooting star shows through your scales!

Other Draconastris Traits:
Most Draconastris act and seem as normal as any other dragon. However there are some noticeable traits that make them stick out from their brothers and sisters.
Social: Draconastris are very curious creatures! They love to learn and do so quickly. In a clan setting they tend to be distracted. But if you get their attention on one thing (especially a personal interest) they will invest all their attention to it until it's no longer needed for them to. Draconastris are also very joyful creatures during their young years. They can make many friends and form a tight bond with family. They're never afraid of hiding who they truly are.
As adults, they will slowly fade into a more graceful demeanor. Their outgoing personalities give in to more quiet and intricate behavior. This usually happens after they start devoting themselves to a career.
Mating: As a sad addition to their maturity, there aren't many Draconastris that are interested in having families. They're either too distracted or have their devotion centered on a profession to find and/or keep a mate. If you're patient enough and perhaps share the same kind of love as your Draconastris lover, then there is no issue to be seen there. It's a rare breed, though. OR, post the Dragon here in the forum! I wanna see!

To be quite honest, registering all Draconastris would be as time consuming as an intoxicated Spiral getting out of it's own knot. So there is no official registration forum for all the Draconastris that exist (or will soon exist). That may change later if I have the time to catalog them all, but for now, I'm leaving the freedom to you guys! WITH some rules.

Because the lore of this subspecies is meant to be rare in terms of how many dragons are Draconastris, having over 20 unique dragons like them in one of the thousands of lairs in Sorineth wouldn't make much sense, right? An exaggeration of course, but you guys get the point! Think of their rarity like the rarity of times you've actually seen shooting stars in your lifetime. Capping your Draconastris at 5 per clan would be much appreciated! Only one Ascendant per clan too!

The closest thing I have to registering your Draconastris is for you to post them here in this forum, and then if you want you can add their names in the spreadsheet above. If you have one, whether you bought it, received it, or you've always had one that fell under the guidelines, post a picture of them here so everyone can see! (And personally I would love to see them.)
Not everyone needs to use the Spreadsheet, but it helps me out a lot.

If you don't have a google account, Ping me and I can add you in.

Breeding Pairs:

I actually don't have any official breeding pairs yet! I'll work on it though. Those who want an update as to when they will come to be can add themselves in the Spreadsheet's pinglist. (Since I'd rather not clog up this forum with requests. You can PM me too!)

NOTE that in terms of lore, breeding pairs are practically insignificant. As described by Starjumper, Draconastris are born randomly. These breeding pairs are solely to provide official dragons that can qualify as Draconastris.

I have a premade search template for the AH here. You can start with this! Make sure you pay attention to the color guidelines too!

Every now and then this post will be updated with new info about Draconastris. Right now it's just a drabble, but as I develop new unique characteristics, I will write Starjumper's notes on them. You may add yourself into the appropriate tab in the registration spreadsheet if you would like a ping for Lore Updates.

Starjumper's Notes:

Duskfall, Month 84. Day 7.

There's an interpret loneliness that comes with the truth about my species. I've become aware that more of my kind exist beyond what I originally anticipated. As the nights draw shorter I find myself looking towards home hoping to find an answer to something that's beyond my studies.

I haven't yet found the reason I was wished to be.

Titon, the other Draconastris of the clan was lucky enough to find his. It was a wonderful story, now that I think of it. He was an adolescent Dragon when he came across a young Spiral Female who was small and moved in a way that reminded him of the waves of a shallow sea. She didn't speak very much, and was wary around him for many reasons. She must have been picked on by other dragons... or worse. Nonetheless Titon has always been the most optimistic and kind of all the dragons I have met, so as he said he was able to befriend her, I can believe him. They became very close, adventuring together and learning from each other. It was a friendship that lasted some years until she found a mate from a nomadic clan and the two realized that it was time to part ways.
On the last day she revealed to Titon that as an abused and poor hatchling she once dreamed on a star for a friend that would love and protect her. Titon new that some special magic was responsible for that.

It's that same magic I wish would tell me what my purpose was. Titon fulfilled his duty and became a wonderful friend to a dragon in need, and now he can live in peace. I am at peace, but not in a fulfilling way. I am merely content with my studies, hoping that someday they will help other Draconastris who aren't as lucky as Titon to find their purpose.

Alas, I ramble. I was intending to write about what I've learned today so I don't forget it tomorrow night, but I've been caught reminiscing. The ink is running dry, so I will leave it here. Here's to the hopes that, If I don't find the soul who wished for me, I will find another purpose as a legendary astronomer.

F.A.Q's:

To be written. I haven't gotten any questions yet!

I love the lore! I wonder if maybe the ones that "have done something magnificent" took their job too serious... or maybe it had something to do with the wish?
Anyway. This is a fantastic idea!
Would you ping me for updates, please?

Edit: I was kinda insensitive back then, please let me delete the evidence so I can sleep at night

@Daemonengrau

I will gladly add you to a pinglist! And yes thank you for pointing out that typo! (It's weird I make ones like that asudhuias)

Part of their lore revolves around Draconastris that have done either of those! A dragon who took their job too seriously might be seen as a prophet or 'seer' of the stars, or be fortune tellers, etc.

Most Draconastris live life as normally as they can and meanwhile keep their senses attuned for any potential that they would meet the dragon that wished for them. Which also means always being open minded to any opportunities to show their worth!

Unfortunately, there are also a good number of Draconastris that never find the reason why they were enchanted. Some are okay with that, others might forever live in sadness over it-- thinking they were too late. There might be lore over the those specific Dragons later once I have everything set up. c:

Thanks!
Also, poor Pearlcatchers. I totally understand their intention... but, well, one could have suspected that enchanting the most important piece of themselves/their soul wasn't a good idea...
If youre going to write that lore, I totally look forward to it!
I also think that it's a good idea to have that "common primary" table. Since "darker" and "lighter" are rather vague. But now, I think it's pretty clear that it means mainly the darkest ones in the RNG.
