[center]Greeting! I welcome you all to the official Hive Mirrors Subspecies thread. Hive Mirrors are an all-flight, mirror-exclusive Subspecies. Hive Mirrors are inspired by ant colonies and bee hives, and are mirror-exclusive because first off I love them and they deserve love, but in serious terms because they were the best fit lore-wise. I hope you won't be turned away by this exclusiveness and even if you aren't a Mirror fanatic you will enjoy the subspecies anyway.

___________
Greeting!
In order to survive the harsh Scarred Wastelands dragons had to adapt and evolve. This is reflected in certain Mirror populations who have adapted a unique social structure. Instead of raving packs that constantly intermingle these Mirrors have grown to sticking to specific, stationary hives.
These mirror hives are different from the usual packs in many ways. Firstly they aren't nomadic, instead building a nest and controlling the surrounding territory. Similar to some insects, Hive Mirrors are born into a certain variation that performs specific jobs. Queens rule the hive and are telepathically connected to the rest of the hive, commanding them in this way. Princes are close relatives of the queens, serving only to closely protect and guard them. Soldiers patrol and protect the entire, guarding the nest itself. Workers do all the tedious work, gathering resources for the hive and maintaining the nest.
Hive Mirror nests are usually series of dug out tunnels, but there are different kinds of nests. The most common nest are dug out of the ground, with many tunnels leading to rooms with specific purposes. Some of these underground nests build a obvious mound near the entrance, while others have their entrances hidden from sight. In the Tangled Wood and Viridian Labyrinth nests are made by manipulating the trees and weaving branches together.
Around the nest the mirror hive controls a large expanse of territory. Worker Mirrors roam this territory in search of food to bring back to the hive. They are both scavenger and predator. Some Mirror Hives are rumored to hunt other dragons, but there has yet to be evidence for this. The territory is bordered with scent markers, and workers will scare off hive mirrors from other hives found in the territory. Hive Mirrors will also pick a fight with any dragon not of a hive if found gathering or hunting food.
Every year there is a season where hundreds of Hive Mirrors leave their hives to make new ones. New queens travel with a couple workers and soldiers in search from a prince from another hive to mate with. Once they find each other they will pick a place to make a new nest. In order to help speed up the expansion of the new hive all variants are allowed to breed, though done under the queen's supervision.
Some mirror hives have learned to live with normal dragon clans. They cooperate with clans near their nest, helping the clan in return for a second line of protection and shelter. Hive Mirror hatchlings can occasionally be found being raised in these allied clans. On rare occasions one or all of the queens of a hive live in the clan for better protection if there is enough trust between the clan and hive.
