In the early days of the new age, as the deities spread across Sornieth, the Gladekeeper built her paradise. The Viridian Labyrinth was a dangerous place to live long before the dragons arrived. Beasts of all shapes and sizes roamed the forests; the Gladeveins were a swamp teeming with river monsters, with no finely constructed aqueducts to direct the water any which way.
The first dragons to live in the Labyrinth had to adapt fast. In the Shrieking Wilds, they took to the treetops; in the Everbloom Gardens, they took on all sorts of colours, blending into the vivid kaleidoscope of flowers. And in the Gladeveins, survival rested on one thing: disappearance.
Rippling blue-greens let them vanish beneath the water; wings as bright as the flowers that grew on shore let them blend into the brush. With time, the River Hibiscus dragons became just as deadly as the beasts that used to hunt them. They could melt into the water without the slightest ripple, or creep through the vibrant vegetation in total silence.

In modern times, tribes of these dragons exist deep in the Gladeveins, though sightings of them are rare. There is some debate over whether they live on the riverbanks – beside the flowers for which they are named – or deep in the waters themselves.
These dragons tend to avoid hunting land prey, instead focusing their diets on fish, plants and insects. When necessary, they can move through the water without making a sound. Dragons travelling through the Gladeveins are advised not to panic if they see something watching them from the water.

Some of these dragons settled deeper into the Labyrinth, in the darker parts of the Gladeveins that border the Shrieking Wilds. Instead of the bright colours of the hibiscus flowers, they developed darker, blue and green scales, to let them blend into the shaded realm where they live.
