Jellicle cats meet once a year At the jellicle ball where we all rejoice And the jellicle leader will soon appear And make what is known as the jellicle choice That's when Old Deuteronomy just before dawn Through a silence you feel you could cut with a knife Announces the cat who can now be reborn And come back to different jellicle life Because waiting up there is the heaviside layer With wonders one jellicle only will see Jellicles ask because jellicles dare Who will it be? |
A Note on Jellicle Cats:
Jellicles are generally stray junkyard cats of mixed lineage but purebred housecats have been known to frequent their group. While they exhibit common feline coloration, they can also be a bit brighter in color than the average cat. They are generally very sociable and have even been known to take on occupations such as train car conductor or actor.
The Heaviside Layer:
Once a year, Jellicle Cats will meet in a grand celebration and the leader of the clan will choose one cat to ascend to the Heaviside Layer. This cat is generally one who has lived a long life and may be down on their luck, but any cat can be chosen. Individuals often try to sway the leader with their impressive talents. Jellicles view the Heaviside Layer as a path for them to be reborn and start a new, better life.
JELLICLE SUBSPECIES:
Over the years, dragons have come forward that claim to have lingering memories of past lives. Upon coming together, they were amazed to discover that their stories were shockingly similar and they were able to rebuild and rediscover their history. It was eventually determined that cats were indeed being reborn into their new lives and into a new world as mighty dragons. Curiously, not all Jellices remembered being chosen for the Heaviside Layer and it was decided that after being reborn nine times as a cat, a Jellice could finally be reborn as a dragon. These dragons generally just remember pieces of their old lives but some claim to remember everything. Personality and coloration, however, seem to strongly persist through all forms.
Because Jellicles are not originally of this world, they always come forth from eggs, making them parentless or first generation dragons. This process of rebirth also determines that Jellices are only born as certain species. Those Jellicles that were reborn ten times, come forth as a Fae, Mirror, Tundra, or Guardian and are the most common form of these dragons. Those lucky few that were in fact chosen for the Heavidise Layer are reborn as Nocturnes and are much more rare. Jellicles of these initial species are simply known as Reborn Jellicles.
Once a Jellicle is comfortable in their new form, they often evolve into a species that more truly embodies their soul and character. This can include any of the existing species but the most common form is that of a Coatl. After a Jellicle takes on a new form, it is referred to as an Ascended Jellicle. Extremely rarely, a Jellicle will Ascend to take the form of an Imperial. Because it is so uncommon, these dragons are referred to as Elite Jellicles and are very highly respected and revered. It is of course possible that a dragon is most comfortable in their Reborn form and many do remain so for their entire lives.
Jellicles are often adopted into existing clans and live forth their new lives without paying much mind to their past lives. When these dragons do come together, they tend to start picking up their old traits and habits, often acting very feline in nature. There will often be subgroups within lairs of Jellices that have come together and may rarely be clans consisting entirely of Jellicles.
