So I've seen a few threads in here about other Flights' Subspecies, so I figured I might as well share one that I've made!
Here are a few things I would like to add in the future:
- Violet Petal Aquatic Floromancers
- Improved lore
- More breeders (@FelicisNox177, @TheMur, I'm looking at you guys!)
- To potentially spread and encourage other Water Flight and other smaller or shy Flights to come on out and show off their Subspecies!
Aquatic Floromancers
While floromancy, the art of divination with flowers, is usually attributed to the Nature Flight, it is believed that over time these floral arts had been picked up by Water Flight members exploring freshwater waterways, and trickled its way down to the seas. Nowadays, Aquatic Floromancers are best known as Lair seers and medicine makers, divining battle outcomes and cures to ailments with aquatic plant life, such as the aquatic hyacinth and lotuses.
While some also indulge in floral arranging and gardening, the most common craft outside of divination these dragons participate in is actually tea brewing and creation. As meticulous in their hobbies as they are in their divining, Aquatic Floromancers' teas are known to be the best across the lands, supposedly with the most talented brewers being able to craft a tea to satisfy any drinker's desire - be it to soothe a stomach, help a cranky hatchling go to sleep, or to enjoy on the hottest summer days.
Breed Requirements & Varieties
Overall, all "pure" Aquatic Floromancers (or AFs for short) must have Water Flight eyes, Navy - Aqua Range Ripple/Current, and a Gembond tertiary. Current species that have exhibited the divining talents of these curious aquatic creatures include a rather wide variety of dragons, such as Coatls, Fae, Guardians, Imperials, Skydancers, Snappers, Spirals. However, the Gembond is what gives these dragons their curious varieties.
(A few of my examples will not have Water Flight eyes, but this is only because they are my subspecies starters.)
Lilypad Variety
The colors of the tertiary genes on all AFs of the Lilypad Variety are in the green range. Their vibrant green coloring on top of the cool ripples of their flesh make it appear as though they are the graceful embodiment of lilypads on the water. It is said the darker the green upon their skin, the more rich their teas and accurate their tea readings will be, though this has no real scientific proof behind this claim. Lilypad variety Aquatic Floromancers are much easier to detect than their relatives of the Petal Variety - perhaps because they are much more outgoing with dragons outside their subspecies and willing to share their brews and prophecies and creations with anyone willing totest accept them, and are not afraid to travel all over in search of the next perfect ingredient for their preferred hobby.
Of the subspecies, these dragons are more likely to be stricken with prophetic visions or divinations - this may be because of their passions for floral arranging and tea brewing in particular, and how easily their tea leaves always seem to fall in place in the cups of their guests. While for the most part, masterful Lilypad Floromancers can predict what symbols in the tea leaves mean with high accuracy, mischievous untrained AFs may take advantage of other dragons' unknowing and play tricks on visitors expecting tea readings from their tutors or more experienced kin. The most commonly known prank, the "Black Wolf of Death", is probably the sole reason that many experienced AFs hide their black teas from the reach of impish claws.
(Rose Petal AFs)
(Lavender Petal AFs)
Much more rarely seen than their Lilypad relatives, much like the petals that drift across their watery bodies they often are only seen during certain periods of the year in different gathering spots, often for the purpose of seeking in-season ingredients of their brews or for their gardens. These gatherings can last anywhere from days to months, and one can easily find one of their gathering grounds by following the scent of sweet flowers and looking for a group of dragons that could easily be mistaken for a surprisingly chatty small body of water, churning and full of beautiful flower petals of all varieties. During these gatherings, Petal AFs discuss their projeccts, swap water garden tricks, and even exchange samples of their salves and teas with one another. After these meetings, they all disappear as suddenly as they arrived, quietly slipping back into their Lairs to go back to their crafts.
While denmates may often find Petal AFs reclusive at worst and eccentric at best, these diviners actually quite care for those they share their Lair with. However, they often show their affection through small acts rather than public displays. A hatchling may find a freshly braided flower crown near their bed after a day of play; a warrior a small package of sweet-smelling salve to soothe their wounds and take away the sting of the beasts they brawled; a mother stressed over her nest may groggily awaken to the sight of the watery dragon slinking away and to the warmth of a fresh bowl of tea.
