Deep in the Highland Scrub of the Shifting Expanse, a trail spirals deep into the ground, large enough for an Imperial. At the bottom lays a large cavern, bustling with dragons kept cool from the heat of the sun. The Warrens are lit by a rudimentary electrical grid, originally cobbled together by the clan's engineer. They've lived much longer than anticipated, and rarely blink out.
Dwellings, shops and more are hidden deeper than the initial entrance, more paths making the clan sprawl out underneath the desert. As more dragons move in, more are dug, leading to a near labyrinthine configuration.

Hello! Welcome to my lore thread! It's still a tad bit under construction, but you have to start somewhere, I suppose! My clan is a bit of a mess, with an unclear power structure and no real conflict, but I still hope to be able to share interesting stories here.
If anyone would like to have shared lore, or just has some questions or comments, feel free to post here, or to just message me! I hope to improve my writing and characters as I continue this, and hope at least a couple of you come along for the ride!
Thank you for peeking in, and I hope you're having a wonderful day! [emoji=familiar heart]

Riaza and Dricgo were the first. Sent out from The Spire to found a new clan in their Deity's name. They were hot and running out of food and water. Even as they approach the coast, it's still stifling.
No matter. They will do their duty. The pair find a spot. There's nothing about this spot that make it different from all the other spots they've passed. But this is where they finally choose to settle.
Dricgo, a large Tundra, uses his large paws to sweep dirt out of the way, Riaza busily shuffling what she can further away from her partner. It's hard, hot, thirsty work. They're running out of water. But no matter. Their first goal is almost complete.
Soon, the hole dipping into the ground is large enough for the two of them to squeeze in together. It's a little cramped, but they're out of the sun. And that's enough.
Soon, the first trade caravan passes by. Dragons join the fledgling clan one by one. Irrigation is put into place, and that first respite from the sun turns into a tunnel, spiraling down into the earth.
As soon as she can, Riaza shoves the duties of Clan Head to others. She's never been a very social dragon, and she's more than happy to let someone else take care of it. Dricgo only begins to shirk his duties once the clan is large and other management is in place.
In the middle of the desert, The Shifting Expanse, lays a vast network of tunnels beneath the sun baked dirt. The word of this place slowly begins to spread, soon becoming known as a traveler's respite.
This place is The Warrens.

Magic is a power that all dragons possess at birth, and uncontrolled magic can easily kill and maim. As a result, hatchlings are taught control from a young age, frequently kept separate from large groups of dragons until they learn an acceptable amount.
Affinities are heavily connected to the Flight a dragon is from, as their birth element will be the one that comes most natural to them. That is not to say that dragons cannot manipulate all elements, as one who is well trained certainly can with ease.
Mages are dragons who have devoted their life (or at least a large portion of it) learning spells. They tend to specialize in one scale of spell, as training heavily in multiple can dilute their power, though giving them more flexibility. Mages are not rare, nor are they common. The typical dragon will not devote themselves to an ability they are unlikely to need.
Transformation magic is one of the most basic of spells. This allows a dragon to take on a humanoid form, according to their capabilities. A hatchling will frequently not be allowed contact with smaller breeds of dragons until they learn how to transform, as letting loose an Imperial hatchling around a group of Fae can, and will, result in many injuries.
Humanoid Forms vary from dragon to dragon. Appearance is most heavily based on control, as excellent control will result in a very human appearance. Less control will make the dragon simply resemble a humanoid version of their dragon appearance. This is frequently seen as childish, as most adult dragons have gained enough control of their powers to be past such a stage.
Scales of Magic are mainly dependent on the size and effect of a spell. Large-scale magic are spells with a large area of effect, characterized by devastating damage, and frequently require preparation before they are cast. Small-scale spells require little to no preparation, and have a smaller scope of effect. A large-scale spell may be enough to topple a city or large forest, but small-scale spells frequently only affect a group of three or so dragons at most. This is not to say that small-scale magic cannot be devastating, it just simply injures less. Mid-scale magic encompasses transformation magic, and anything that happens to lay between large and small-scale spells.
Specialization refers to where a mage has focused their studies. One may have an interest in fire and light-based small-scale magic, while another may fuse lightning, wind and water to study storm-based large-scale magic. This is simply the area that the mage is most adept at.
Hyper specialization refers to when a mage focuses their studies to a specific scale and type of magic that they begin to lose the capability to cast other spells. This happens most easily to mages specializing in large or small-scale magic, but rarely to those who study mid-scale spells. If, say, one begins to hyper specialize in powerful small-scale magic, such as teleportation, they may begin to struggle with large and mid-scale spells. At worst, one may begin to struggle with spells even within the scale and element of those they study. An effect of hyper specialization is easily observed in the weakening of control over transformation magic.
