Brought to you by various members of Flight Rising, this newspaper aims to outline some of the important events arising across Sornieth. Centered around the many different user based projects, ideas, and stories on site, this newspaper aims to bring the community together and share stories about everything Flight Rising related. The beautiful lore surrounding dragons, clans, and flights, is all a part of what makes FR such a special place. Our hope is to cast a light on the people, projects, and stories that make this place so wonderful, bringing everyone together to delight in the tales we weave with each other! Our newspaper wouldn't be possible without the contribution of our readers. We want to thank you all for being so patient as we release our issues, and thank you for all your help with donations and support, spreading the word about our newspaper and showing us your amazing lore, subspecies, legacy projects, and buying our ad's for your businesses! I know some of you are probably curious about where our funds go. Here at the Sornieth Today, we are all about giving back to the community. Your donations are put towards raffles and giveaways for the community! I know some of you are asking, why should I donate or buy raffle tickets or place my ad in the paper? Well, with your help, we can provide lots of fun raffles with special prizes in the future. We can also fund our amazing art team so they make wonderful badges for you guys! The presence of Mother has faded as we travel deeper into The Tidelords’s domain. Despite his rumored absence, his power still runs strong. The water is calm here, the shallow waters of the nearby shoals are inhabited both by new, young clans who observe us from a distance with curiosity and the local marine life. A fat junebug wanders by, briefly tempting our Medic, Vemtras. She too, writes in her journal although about the less picturesque details of our travels. The water is alive , much like the air is with ever changing disease back in the Wasteland, or with song and dance from my native home of the Windswept Plateau. The stars twinkle overhead, shining brightly, reflected in the dimming waters of the night. It’s almost like a mirror, had it not been for the constant, reassuring waves, breaking the shore like a heartbeat. ----- [font=garamond][size=4] In. Out. Like the Tidelord himself breathes upon the domain. That night we decided to save our rations in exchange for tasting the local cuisine. We locate a restaurant willing to serve our mixed party, despite the quick glances of nervousness we get when we tell of where we’ve come from. A party of patrons to our left shoot us a look but say nothing. The seaweed and fog flowers have a slightly salty taste to them thanks to the fish broth but not in a way that overpowers the natural taste of the vegetables. Fernweh chows down on roasted marine iguana while Vemtras eats her pan seared dragonfly and meal moth was served with reduced axolotl sauce. We paid our bill and left to enjoy what the night life had in store for us. ----- [font=garamond][size=4] A play was taking place, a production of a traditional story regarding lovers who disregard the words of the Tidelord, doomed to end in tragedy, though they try to prosper anyway. The main actress, a skydancer was phenomenal in her performance. The way her silks caught the light of the fires, trailing her every move like a ghost. The Guardian who took on the role of the Tidelord held a daunting presence to the stage, his careful steps, the way he projected his voice to the audience. It felt as if the Tidelord himself had graced us with his presence. I later bought a seashell engraving depicting one of the most poignant scenes of the play. My pearl shall remember this as well. For the night we headed back to our camp, exhausted from the journey but refreshed from the experiences thus far. ----- [font=garamond][size=4] The Sea of a thousand currents is three hours ahead from the time zone in which our clan resides. Of course time never meant much to Fernweh, our mirror companion. He awoke the two of us at what would still be the dead of night for us back in the border between the Starfall Isles and The Scarred Wasteland. Vemtras untangled her noodle like body in annoyance but did not outwardly gripe. The sunset on the Tsunami Flats are exceptional, the reds, pinks and oranges painted the sky with a sense of clarity and a beckoning to discover what the day ahead had in store. The early morning lights coloring the tidal pools like paint pallets. It is a new day for the three of us and we must take advantage of our time here.

If you’re a frequent visitor of the Dragon Share forum, you have without a doubt seen some of these subspecies posts. Perhaps you’ve wondered to yourself, “what in tarnation is a subspecies, anyway?” Well, have no fear, all your questions are about to be answered. In this article and future articles to come we will explore different subspecies and do exclusive one on one interviews with their creators. Hold on to your seatbelts, kids, we’re about to go exploring! So, let’s start off by going over what exactly a subspecies is. It’s basically a sub-category of stylized dragons that anyone can create. They usually include an “Absolute” type, which falls perfectly within the range of specified requirements, and a few other types that aren’t exactly a perfect fit but still adhere to the general style. They can be breed specific, gene specific, and have specific color combinations or even flights! Subspecies always come with their own lore and background information, and they sometimes have specific apparel or familiars as well. Some of them even come with badges for their bios so everyone who sees it will know they’re a subspecies. There are many hatcheries that specialize in these unique -- and often rare -- dragons, so you should check out a few if you’re interested in purchasing one! ----- [font=garamond][size=4] Without further ado, let’s introduce ourselves to one of my favorite subspecies: [b][url=http://www1.flightrising.com/forums/drs/2464726]Effluvial Crows[/url][/b]. Effluvial Crows have a number of unique tidbits in their lore, and they have their own bio templates as well! They even come with ideas for apparel and eating habits. How well rounded, right? Let's take a look at the typical Effluvial Crow. [center][url=http://flightrising.com/main.php?dragon=38437558] [img]http://flightrising.com/rendern/350/384376/38437558_350.png[/img] [/url] [/center] These are a Plague-based warrior dragon species, consisting solely of Wildclaws. In order to be registered as an official Effluvial Crow, the dragon must be a level 20-25, making them one of the more unique subspecies on FR. These intimidating warriors secrete pestilence from their sharp talons, which they use on their enemy to increase the enemies power, creating worthy opponents for “pure fights.” They are extremely loyal to their clans, protective of their own kind and especially of their hatchlings. This subspecies comes complete with specific combat skills as well as a courting process and even favorite foods, being one of the more complete subspecies listed on Flight Rising. Different crow variants include: Albinism, Melanism, Eboncrow, and Crested Eboncrow. There are also Lesser Crows, Jackdaws, and Drones. There are plenty of variants to this species and all of them are unique, beautiful, and deadly. Cold. Harsh. Hostile. The land of the Icewarden has an ethereal beauty, from the fracturing floes on its outer edge to the hidden peaks of its mountains. But what of the home of the Icewarden himself, The Fortress of Ends? Few outside dragons ever traverse to the deepest part of The Southern Icefields, and fewer still return. Lately, however, the emergence and spread of The Gaolers, the legendary first children of The Icewarden, has brought new information of Sornieths' most reclusive flight. Today, I will be taking a unique opportunity to report on the lives of the Gaolers most common and curious familiar... The Dripcave Deputy. ----- Deep within the Gaoler prisons, the Dripcave Deputies are hard at work. Much like their masters, The Gaolers, these impish creatures are dedicated to the cause set by The Icewarden... The guarding and maintaining of the Gaoler prisons. The common Dripcave Deputy resemble Goblins in shape, and are covered in an insulated coat of fur. The color ranges from brown with dark spots on the head, arms, back, legs and tail, to tan on their belly, chest, and the thick ruff around their necks. Their eyes are ice blue with a slight glow. The adult Dripcave Deputy, when paired to a Gaoler, wears an iron helmet with antlers designed to match their paired dragon and carries a spelled shackle to help restrain prisoners. All Dripcave Deputies have limited Ice magic, focused on slowing and imprisonment spells. Time has no real meaning deep within the ice, but that does not mean they do not maintain a strict schedule. What they do during these days largely depends on what Order the Gaoler they are accompanying is a part of. The Gaolers have 5 Orders, each doing a vital part for the mission of The Icewarden. ----- Seekers: An order dedicated to hunting the lands of Sornieth to capture and contain Shade creatures. The Dripcave Deputies duties for these hunters seems mainly caring for their Gaoler. During a Hunt, a Gaoler becomes focused on their target, and forget to do basic things like eating and sleeping. It is the Deputies job to make sure that their Gaoler stays healthy during the long hunt. After the hunt is complete, the Dripcave Deputy helps restrain the prisoner and transport it back to the prison. Sentries: An order dedicated to stalking the perimeters of Gaoler prisons. They are the first line of defense against intruders and the last line of defense against escapees. The Dripcave Deputies for Sentries do the same job as the Sentries themselves... Walking the perimeters in groups, recapturing prisoners and detaining intruders until a Gaoler team can get there to do an interrogation. Keepers: An order dedicated to guarding lesser Shade creatures imprisoned in the mid-levels of a ward. If assigned to a Keeper Gaoler, The Dripcave Deputies main job is to check the spells and fortifications on the prisoner cells. Other duties include checking the status of each prisoner, making sure that even if the prisoners do not have their freedom they do not suffer, and helping keep unruly prisoners in check. Overseers: An order dedicated to containing the largest and most ancient Horrorbeasts. Now the deep high-tier prisons for the Horrorbeasts are much different from the shallower mid- and low-tier prisons… For one, these ancient terrors do not have simple cells and wards like lesser Shade creatures and Shade-cursed dragons do. They are suspended in a deep freeze, housed within ice several dozen meters thick. Both the Gaolers and their Dripcave Deputies have one job… To keep applying the spells and reinforcing the wards constantly. In order to accomplish this effectively, teams work in overlapping shifts so that not even for a single second are the barriers weakened... Sentinels: An elite guard that assist in protecting the Icewarden and the Pillar Fragment locked-away in the Fortress of Ends. Their offspring are believed to be blessed by the Tidelord himself. Over the generations, the lineage has spread to the other flights, but the blood of Ragnar and Lorelei still flows strongly through the family’s veins. However, the further removed each generation becomes the weaker their magic becomes as it ebbs and flows. [font=garamond]To qualify as a true Viking or siren of this family, a dragon must have Ragnar and Lorelei as ancestors. On top of that, their colors and genes must be very specific; Python/Starmap Primaries, Morph Secondary, and Firefly/Ringlets/Runes/Ghost as the Tertiary. Their colors must be between Navy and Robin. To be a “pure” Viking or siren, the dragon must belong to the Water Flight, though other Flights are allowed; however, those dragons are considered part of the “Diluted” lineage. [font=garamond]Dragons born as “Diluted” Vikings/sirens may have any colors, genes, or eye types- however, they are often considered the weakest of the family. The further from the originating colors/genes, the weaker the power that they wield; but the closer to the originating colors/genes, especially mimicking the progenitors perfectly, the stronger their power. [font=garamond]Younger generations are required to reach level 5 to be fully initiated into the Clan. The males of the line are encouraged to pursue the path of Ragnar and sail the Sea. They are given various positions of command on Ragnar’s fleet ranking from a mere Warrior to the rank of a Ship Captain as they prove their strength. The LGBT+ community on Flight Rising is vast, and the game itself acts as a safe space for many who want to find like-minded individuals, be it for support, comfort, or even just a friend. There are many different support groups and hatcheries that breed dragons based on the various flag colors on the LGBTQ+ spectrum, and the community itself is full of non-binary people of lots of different orientations and preferences. ----- There’s not a lot happening in this article at the moment, since it’s more so explaining what this article is going to be about in the future.
