About the Clan

Forgotten Poet's Tools Immaculate Tablet Scroll Case
The Clan of the Lost and Found was begun by the Mirror Sinagtala, who was rejected by her birth clan for the color of her wings, and found refuge in the Sunbean Ruins under the care of the Lightweaver. Soon she was joined by the Guardian Bathala, who took her as his charge and, eventually, as his mate.

Over time their clan expanded by welcoming those who felt they did not belong and were looking for a place they could finally call home. Since then several dragons have joined the clan; some stay permanently, while others leave from time to time to pursue their own goals - or to just peregrinate. Nevertheless, even the wanderers know exactly where home is, and that no matter how far they've gone or how long they've been away, they will always find a fire to warm them, food to fill their bellies, and eager listeners to whom they may tell their tales.

The Inn of the Lost and Found is an extension of the above philosophy: a place where anyone traveling through the Sunbeam Ruins and in need of sanctuary may find shelter, a warm meal, and friendly companions. Recently the clan has also become an information depot, where for a fee, anyone can speak to the clan's scribes and archivists, who can provide them any information they might need or want - or close enough to it.

The Inn of the Lost and Found

Traveling is a necessity in Sornieth, but it's not necessarily the safest thing to do - not even for dragons. The burden and dangers are eased somewhat by traveling companions, but a dragon traveling alone is very vulnerable indeed.

Sinagtala and Bathala, the founders of the clan, knew this truth very well. When they returned to the Sunbeam Ruins after several years of wandering during Bathala's Search, they decided that their lair would be the kind of place they'd sought (and sometimes found) on their travels: a warm, safe place to stay before going on the next leg of the journey. Though neither intended to start an inn, they turned part of their lair into one when they gained a reputation as a place where anyone, even Beastclans, could come and find rest, refuge, and a meal in exchange for payment in coin, services rendered, or (under Idianale's leadership) information shared.

Information is a valuable commodity, and everyone needs it, for one reason or another. More importantly, there are many out there who would pay for the opportunity to get the information they need.

Idianale was the first of the clan to recognize the value of information as a commodity, and the first to realize that her clan was a great wellspring for said commodity. Under her leadership, the clan has begun to actively record and archive all the stray bits of news, rumor, and story brought in by the more peregrinating members of the clan, and by those who come through the inn. For a fee, anyone can speak to the scribes; access the archives under the supervision of the resident archivists; or have someone in the clan go looking for the information. It might not always be accurate, and it might not always be timely, but the clan guarantees that it is always the best they have at any given time.

Le Chat Noir

Black Cat
No one knows for sure when Noir, the black cat with the golden eyes, showed up in the lair. Clan members speculate that she was probably one of the many strays who wander around the Sunbeam Ruins and decided to make the inn her territory. Others suspect that she might have been brought in by a guest, and then either forgotten or deliberately left behind. It's also possible she was always there, preferring to go unnoticed until she decided it was time to make herself known.

However she came to be with the Clan, no one is going to deny that she's very definitely a member now. She's most frequently found in the inn, padding around looking for scraps and scritches, but she's been known to turn up anywhere, both within and - eerily enough - without the lair's environs. It's the latter part that's gotten some of the clan members a little spooked, though she usually turns up when good things are about to happen, so it doesn't really bother anyone - much.

Despite her rather harsh background (or maybe because of it), Sinagtala is most known for her warm and welcoming nature, always glad to offer aid and shelter to anyone who needs it. She might not always be the chattiest dragon around, but she's always willing to help. This unwillingness to take credit even for great achievements might have something to do with his upbringing, though given that his birth-clan is chock-full of notable, even famous, dragons, it's rather puzzling that someone like Bathala wouldn't want to claim every achievement possible - and setting up a clan is certainly no small feat. But that's just how Bathala is. He's easygoing and relaxed - "chill", as some of the other clan members like to say. If Sinagtala is not traveling, he'll usually be at the Inn with her, looking out for trouble but also chatting with the guests that come through, making them feel welcome when his mate is feeling a bit more taciturn. But just because he's got a fuse ten thousand miles long doesn't mean he doesn't have a temper, because he does. When she was younger she and her siblings traveled around Sornieth with the blessing of their parents, and she was the one who kept a level head and helped them make it out of a great many sticky situations. This level-headedness continues to serve her well, now that she is the clan's leader (the entire clan is her Charge, so it works out well). Her work is generally administrative in nature, so she's usually stuck in her office in the Information Depot. But she's also something of a busybody, so she tends to poke her snout into everyone else's business. Everyone else tries to get her to stop doing it, but sometimes she just can't help herself. She works mostly behind the scenes because she can be a bit terse with others when she thinks they're being indecisive, and so can come off as rather rude. It's not that she means to be mean; it's just that she prefers it when people can make up their minds as quickly as she can. The other scribes and archivists all are a little terrified of her because she is strict about the quality of the information that passes through her paws, and she is not shy about double-checking their work. Minaden believes that the success of the Depot lies firmly in its reputation, and that reputation is built on the quality of its information. Minaden makes sure that it's nothing but the best. Minaden's no-nonsense attitude doesn't really change much when she's off the clock, but it's rather more relaxed than when she's working. She can get pretty cuddly during such moments - mostly with her sister, Amihan, and her mate Liadlaw, though some of the other clan members have seen her get all snuggly with Sinagtala, and sometimes Idianale. (Idianale always protests she "doesn't have the time for cuddles", but can't fight back because, let's face it, Minaden is bigger than her, and she will get cuddles from her niece if she wants them). When she's not working she can be most frequently found in one of the clan member-only common rooms, draped and twined around either her sister or her mate while deep in a rip-roaring adventure novel.[/columns] Amihan Cipherkeeper | Seer | Scholar [columns]Amihan is Minaden's younger sister, and the shadow to her sister's light, both in terms of personality and in terms of role. Where Minaden can be impatient, and forthright to the point of sometimes being rude, Amihan is the soul of patience, and possessed of a very sweet, kind demeanor. She is also shy and introverted, whereas Minaden doesn't have a shy bone in her body and rather more extroverted. But despite those differences, they both share two things: their incredible intelligence, and their love for one another. Never mind that Amihan was adopted under rather strange circumstances; the bond the sisters share is as firm as if they were blood kin. Amihan's role in the Information Depot is that of Cipherkeeper: a lorekeeper whose focus is on information pertaining to the occult and the spirit world. This is because Amihan is herself a seer. It's been a long road to gaining control over her powers, but now that she can, Amihan uses her abilities to help the archivists of the Information Depot, and sometimes individual customers, unearth or pinpoint specific information when more conventional avenues lead to dead ends. She is, however, a bit standoffish due to the nature of her powers: they work through physical contact, or sometimes not even that - the visions can happen if the entity or item in question are in the same space as she. This is why she wears black gloves on her front paws: so she doesn't accidentally trigger a vision while handling objects or while speaking with strangers. She is also very careful about who she spends time with, because something or other could break her control and trigger a vision; only close friends and family can spend a significant amount of time with her, because for some odd reason Amihan's powers don't work on them unless she focuses. Some have even called him "smooth." But the truth of the matter is that Liadlaw is not as smooth as everyone thinks he is. In the company of his clan members, Liadlaw shows that he is, in fact, a true-blue romantic: a firm believer in the notion that love conquers all and that everyone deserves to fall into giddy, head-over-heels-or-tailtip love at least once in their lives. This shows in his interest in reading and writing romance novels - he's even a published author. But all his work is published under a pseudonym, because he doesn't think he could bear the embarrassment if the world knew about his secret passion for squee-worthy love stories - or that he does, in fact, squee (which is impressive, considering that he's an Imperial).[/columns] CREDITS Source | Source Bio template by Darkfyyre | Code

But all his work is published under a pseudonym, because he doesn't think he could bear the embarrassment if the world knew about his secret passion for squee-worthy love stories - or that he does, in fact, squee (which is impressive, considering that he's an Imperial).

WELCOME TO THE INN OF THE LOST AND FOUND A visitor's look at the Inn of the Lost and Found. [columns] It is a warm spring day in the Sunbeam Ruins. Golden light warms the pavement and broken colonnades of the Mirrorlight Promenade, but the wind that blows through from the pine forests along the Promenade's outer edge is cool and fresh. All around you dragons and those of the Beastclans who have chosen to ally with the former bustle about their own business, little clusters forming here and there as friends and family greet each other and speak briefly before breaking away to their intended destinations, or moving together elsewhere. After a few moments, you find what you've been seeking. It looks like a two-storey stone building, with a rounded facade made of the same marble as the rest of the Promenade. Two doors of dark wood and glass grant entrance to the ground floor: one made large for bigger dragons, and another, smaller one for appropriately smaller dragons and Beastclan members. Two casement windows are set into the walls of the ground floor, one on either side of the two sets of doors, but looking up you see that the second floor has wide picture windows providing light and excellent views of the Promenade. You walk closer to the building, and pause on the doorstep to check the sign that hangs over the two doors. It reads: The Inn of the Lost and Found, engraved in the gorgeous flourish of a master calligrapher. Beneath it is a plaque, written in the same elegant script: A shelter for the lost. A haven for the wanderer. A home for any who need it. Come and go as you please. You will always be welcome. You enter the doors, and pause to take in the space. Though the exterior of the structure is made of stone, the interior is paneled in a warm, honey-colored wood, accented by a dark wooden floor on which stand medium-toned wooden tables, cushions, and benches. You see wooden booths along the wall, as well as two doors: one on the left, and another on the right, each leading off to other parts of the Inn that you cannot see, since they are currently closed. In the center of the room is a firepit, nestled into a stone-lined depression cut through the wooden floor and into the ground below. It is ringed by an elaborately-carved stone barrier, which glows softly with an enchantment of some sort. You lift your gaze to the wall on the other side of the space from you, and there you see a tall, L-shaped bar, and notice that there are tier-like steps leading up to it - clearly made for the benefit of shorter, smaller clientele. At the furthest end, to the left, you see a black blob that uncurls itself into a cat, which stares at you with bright yellow eyes before it jumps down into the space behind the bar, disappearing from your sight. Your gaze skims to the right, and you can see another door, which in its turn is tucked under the sweep of a ramp that leads up to the second floor. You follow the line of the ramp up to the floor above, and you realize that the second floor isn't really a floor at all so much as a wide, round ring of wood, underneath which are suspended platforms intended for winged guests who prefer to relax in the air. The center of the entire structure is open all the way through to a high, vaulted ceiling. From that ceiling hangs a magnificent chandelier, featuring brass sculptures of Light Sprites holding up glass globes filled with some sort of magic that scatters a soft, yellow light throughout the interior, augmenting the natural sunlight coming in from the windows on both floors. You can easily imagine what the space must look like at night, with all the wood illuminated by the chandelier and the firepit. You turn as the door near the bar opens, and out walks a Mirror dragon, dressed in what appear to be brown, rather drab traveling clothes, which only serve to offset the golden-yellow brilliance of her wings. She pauses in the doorway when she sees you, going completely still for a moment, her crest mantling a little in surprise, before she relaxes, and smiles. "Welcome to the Inn of the Lost of and Found," she says, and her voice, though soft, is warm. "I'm Sinagtala, the innkeeper. Is there anything I can help you with?" You reply that you're a traveler, and that you are looking for a place to stay. Sinagtala nods: a quick, practical gesture. "We do have rooms available," she says, ducking behind the bar for a moment before reemerging with a clipboard in one paw. The larger of her two sets of eyes squints briefly down at it, then she lifts her head to look at a point just over and beyond your right shoulder. "Bathala? Did the family of four check out already? "No they haven't," rumbles a deep voice from behind you, and when you turn to look you see a massive Guardian male seemingly emerge from the shadows. Dressed as he is in golden, filigreed armor, and given that he has bright, banana-yellow wings, you don't understand how in the world you could have missed him when you came in. The Guardian, apparently named Bathala, notices your surprise, and he offers a smile and a shrug to your unspoken question. "Training," he replies, before turning to Sinagtala. When he does so it's easy to see how his expression softens and goes fond as he looks at her. "They said they wanted one last look-see through the Promenade before they left," he explains. "They'll be back later in the day to check out." Sinagtala nods, before turning to you. "Well, as I said, we have rooms available for rent. Your stay comes with breakfast, and we serve lunch and dinner for a fee, but our food here is simple, home-cooked fare. If you want something fancier I recommend going to the Crispy Phoenix over in the Beacon. I can give you a voucher for a round of free drinks, or a free Dessert of the Day, your choice." You nod, and ask about payment. She explains the going rates for basic rooms, deluxe rooms, and suites, stating that the prices are in treasure, but they accept payment in gems at an exchange rate of one thousand-to-one treasure-to-gems. "Of course," she continues, "if you want a reduction in your fees, you can also trade stories or information instead, though how much we take off your bill will depend on the quality of the information you can give us." You blink at that, and say you don't understand what she means. Bathala shifts, and you turn to him. "Our clan runs an Information Depot," he says, pointing his snout at the right-hand door you saw coming in. "If you've got any sort of information you think might be of interest, or you've got a story you want to tell, just go in there and speak to one of the scribes. They'll determine how valuable or important it is, and that in turn will determine how much you may need to pay before you check out. Don't worry: the appraisals are always fair. Our Lorekeepers will make sure the scribes and archivists do right by you." You nod, absorbing this information, then ask if anyone's ever gotten to stay for free at the Inn, all on the strength of their information or story. "Sure," Bathala replies with a nod. "As I said, we're fair here. If the Depot says you deserve a free stay, you'll get one, no questions asked." You ask if you can trade information for information. Again, Bathala nods. "That can be done too, yes. But you'll have to negotiate the specifics with the Depot itself. They're the ones who know the finer details of those kinds of arrangements; my mate and I just run the Inn - well, when we're not out traveling, anyway." Sinagtala chuckles, and you turn to her again as she says: "But you don't have to do anything concrete right now. Why don't you take a seat at the bar, and have a drink on the house? And while you make up your mind about how to pay, you can tell me about how you got here, and how you heard of us. Sounds good?" You smile, and nod, utterly charmed by Sinagtala's personality. You mount the steps up to the bar's counter, and you see Sinagtala doing the same on the other side. As she prepares your drink, the cat you saw earlier hops back up onto the counter, and makes its way towards you with delicate, mincing steps, watching you briefly before deciding that it likes you enough to rub its head against you, purring happily. You grin as you scratch the cat between the ears (whereupon it purrs louder), and you look around the space, illuminated by both magic and sunlight. You think that coming to the Inn of the Lost and Found was the best idea you've had yet.
