She spent her early years scouting out different clans, and when she finally found the clan of her dreams, Reedsong Heights, she was turned away for being too weak. Determined to make her dreams come true, she will stop at nothing to become strong enough to join the clan that will eventually keep her safe. Meeting other dragons with a similar goal wasn't a part of her plan, but working together for a common goal is much easier than doing it alone. EVE After seeing her siblings sacrificed to the Deities by her overzealous parents, Eve fought tooth and nail to avoid the same fate. Luck was on her side, and she managed to escape, but the encounter left her jaded and distrustful of other dragons. Her tough exterior and demeanor is all a facade she puts up to try and protect herself from being hurt again. She has found an unlikely family in the small group of dragons, and she has taken it upon herself to teach them how to defend themselves from outside dangers. ADRIAN One of the smartest of the bunch, Adrian often comes across as an enigma to the other dragons. He doesn't talk about his past, and refuses to answer questions about his origins. All anyone knows is that he was born in the Southern Icefield and gets a distant look when asked about what it was like there. Adrian often takes charge of the more tactical aspects of their group and the others are often in his debt on the battlefield, whether from his healing abilities or his strategic planning. HALBEN Everyone knows that Coatls should originate from the Ashfall Waste, but Halben is full of contradictions. Born in the Sea of a Thousand Currents, he harnesses the elemental power of Water. Or he would, if he ever felt the need to tap into his magical powers. His parents spent most of his childhood grooming him to be a master of magic, but to their growing disappointment Halben refused to use his abilities. He was given an ultimatum from his mother. Use his powers, or be removed from his birth-clan. Halben chose self-imposed exile and left in search of something better. No one is sure how Halben lost his voice, but the dragon remains unable or unwilling to speak. Thankfully he's quite good at getting across what he's feeling without words, and if that fails, there's always parchment to convey his thoughts. VEREL Separated from his birth-clan by a devious Pearlcatcher, Verel found himself washed away in a deep river. Before he could drown, Arrix plucked him from the waters and he found himself immediately adopted into the new group. After having the adults swear to help him find his family, he felt more at ease, yet with each passing day and the addition of new members to the group, he finds that he's less and less interested in finding his original family. Investing his time and energy with the new group, he's forging a family of his own. Verel feels more comfortable in this group than he ever did with his birth-clan. Optimistic and excitable, he offers much needed levity in a group of mostly serious dragons. NERIDA Unlike the rest of the group, Nerida finds herself preferring solitude rather than the company of the others. She spends a good deal of her time off scouting in the woods, and searching for trinkets and treasures. Developing quite the eye for things that are out of place or half-hidden, she's managed to collect a fairly large hoard of unique items. The collection seems to attract every hatchling in the clan, and Nerida spends more time than she'd like shooing small dragons away from her collection or hunting down objects that have mysteriously gone missing. Agile and quick, Nerida prefers to avoid battle when possible, but when forced to fight, her magical attacks rival even Adrian's. JAKEN Jaken hatched from his egg angry at the world and not much has changed since. A direct opposite from his brother Niko, Jaken prefers to solve all his problems by fighting. Niko tempers his worst impulses when he's around, but Jaken struggles with those impulses when he is alone. A strong believer of 'if you can't fight, you won't survive' he views peaceful dragons as weak and pitiful. Even though he won't admit it out loud, he views his optimistic brother as the weaker of the two. NIKO Unlike Jaken, Niko prefers peace instead of fighting. Avoiding conflict and strife makes him the happiest, and helping to provide for his family makes him feel worthy to be a part of the clan. He doesn't care at all about his parents desire to join Reedsong Heights, not understanding why they can't just be happy with their own slowly growing clan. Niko loves Jaken, but wishes he could teach his brother to be less angry all the time, and to trust other dragons instead of instantly wanting to fight them. SERENA Born into a clan full of tricksters and thieves, Serena learned a lot of devious behaviors as a hatchling. Yet as she grew older she began to feel deep in her soul that what she and her clan were doing was wrong. Mistrust in her parents and other clan-mates grew and soon Serena began to believe that something was wrong with her moral code. None of the other dragons had remorse after their tricks and thefts. It was only after meeting dragons from another clan that Serena realized that this wasn't the life she had to live, if she didn't want to. She could choose a different path. DRAGONS

ARRIX

50393119_350.png
After her small birth clan was wiped out by another, stronger clan, Arrix knew that the only way she'd survive is by finding an even larger group of dragons to join.

FQ0im7E.png
EVE
50482764_350.png
After seeing her siblings sacrificed to the Deities by her overzealous parents, Eve fought tooth and nail to avoid the same fate.

FQ0im7E.png
ADRIAN
50478574_350.png

One of the smartest of the bunch, Adrian often comes across as an enigma to the other dragons.

FQ0im7E.png
HALBEN

50503908_350.png

Everyone knows that Coatls should originate from the Ashfall Waste, but Halben is full of contradictions.

FQ0im7E.png
VEREL
50850013_350.png

Separated from his birth-clan by a devious Pearlcatcher, Verel found himself washed away in a deep river.

FQ0im7E.png
NERIDA

51083819_350.png

Unlike the rest of the group, Nerida finds herself preferring solitude rather than the company of the others.

FQ0im7E.png

JAKEN
51568603_350.png

Jaken hatched from his egg angry at the world and not much has changed since.

FQ0im7E.png
NIKO
51568604_350.png

Unlike Jaken, Niko prefers peace instead of fighting.

FQ0im7E.png
SERENA
51673208_350.png

Born into a clan full of tricksters and thieves, Serena learned a lot of devious behaviors as a hatchling.

Deciding to do just that, Serena is constantly at war with herself trying to do the right thing, and to make up for past transgressions.

"Yes," Arrix replied, voice steady and unwavering even though she felt small and unimportant beneath the gaze of such a prominent Council member. She had been chosen to speak, as she was the oldest of the three that stood before Morrigan, but she wasn't certain why. Mirror's weren't known as the best public speakers. "Our ranks are already full to bursting, what makes you three special?" Morrigan asked, cutting directly to the point. "We're strong and young, and we'll be hard workers. Whatever you need, we can fill those spaces. We're willing and able," Arrix replied, wishing they had something more to offer. "Willing and able? Maybe, but all I see are unskilled, unremarkable, and overeager mouths to feed. More work for the rest of the clan with no benefits to the other members," Morrigan sniffed as she passed her gaze over the Mirror, the Fae, and the Wildclaw. "We have plenty of skills!" the Wildclaw, Eve snarled. She bared her sharp teeth, ready for a fight. Arrix cast her a withering glare, willing her to be silent. The last thing they needed were tempers to run high. "Doubtful. You all still stink of eggshells. The Heights will not have you in your current state," Morrigan decided. "I don't think you're in a position of power high enough to make that choice," Adrian spoke up in his usual monotone. Morrigan turned her gaze on the Fae, her eyes narrowing. He shrank back a little, but only just. He spoke again. "You're not the Matriarch. I demand to speak with her instead. She's the only one I trust to give us a proper dismissal." "The Matriarch is away from the clan on important business. I am in charge in her stead, and she'd give the same decision. We don't need any more arrogant, self-important hatchlings. You're not ready. Come back when you've got some skills under your claws. Do not come back and waste my time again," Morrigan snapped, clearly done with the three before her. She clacked her claws against the ground and in a burst of red light she vanished, leaving the three dragons clanless and mortified. They were silent for a long time, standing in the shadow of the tall floating platforms high above that belonged to the clan they were trying to join. Arrix sighed. So much for Wind clans being friendly. Although, the Heights was currently residing in Light territory...maybe that had something to do with it? Her attention was drawn to her companions as Eve kicked at the dirt with her one long claw. "I don't want to be a part of a clan that she's a part of anyway," Eve decided, sounding petulant at their dismissal. "Yes you do," Adrian replied, his exhaustion coming through clearly now that the meeting was over. He had come the furthest of the three, and had journeyed mostly alone until a few days prior when the three had met up by chance on the outskirts of the Hewn City. "I suppose we better find some place to spend the night," Arrix urged and looked at Eve. The Wildclaw scowled back at her. "Don't look at me. Just because I was born here, doesn't mean I know where everything is!" Eve snapped, her eyes nothing but irritated slits. The two stared at each other for a time, but finally Eve looked away. "Okay fine, I might know a place. It's not fancy, so don't expect much." Arrix followed the Wildclaw as she took the lead, taking them further away from their best shot at a clan. Arrix ruminated on their poor luck as they walked. Reedsong Heights was supposed to be a welcoming clan with a kind Matriarch and a place for everyone. Instead they were met with Morrigan, and denied passage without ever being able to plead their case to the Matriarch. Arrix glanced over at her companions and wondered if this was her fault. Both of her companions were gifted with colors and patterns, but she was dark and plain. A direct opposite of the dazzling colors that Morrigan had. Arrix tried not to be disappointed, but it was hard work. She wanted so badly to belong to a clan. To be a part of something. To have a family again. She missed her siblings. Her original pack. Eve and Adrian were fine, but they weren't like her. They didn't understand her need to belong to something bigger.

Coatl Eve led the way back to the makeshift lair she had made for herself in the early days of her abandonment. She skirted around the Hewn City, giving a wide berth to the darkness that clung to the ruins. The place terrified her, even though she'd never admit it out loud. It gave off an aura that made her stomach twist into knots. Thankfully her companions seemed to feel the same way, and no one suggested to enter the ruins. Instead she headed towards a vast redwood forest. The trees towered above them, but never quite seemed to be able to fully block out the sunlight despite their massive size. The air cooled slightly as they passed through the shadows of the great trees and it didn't take long for her to find the giant fallen tree she had partially hollowed out in order to have some form of shelter. Her craftsmanship was shoddy. Deep talon marks marred the bark in uneven strokes. Splinters and wood shavings were strewn about the ground, and the hole itself was fairly small. It wouldn't fit all three of them. The most surprising thing was that at the moment, it wouldn't fit any of them. The hole was currently occupied, but by what, Eve wasn't quite sure. A mass of thousands of colors was filling every available inch of space. Upon closer inspection, Eve realized that it was feathers. She drew back quickly when she realized that the feathers were moving. Whatever it was, it was alive. Not wanting her companions to think she was a coward, she flared her crest and wings and let out the loudest shriek she could as a challenge. How dare this creature take advantage of her hard work! The feathers puffed up and a small head poked out from the middle of them. Deep blue eyes, darker than Eve had ever seen peered up at her with alarm. She realized then that this was a dragon. A Coatl. She hadn't ever heard of a Coatl this far from the Emberglow Hearth, and certainly not from the opposing element. It went against everything she knew. A small claw appeared from the mass of colorful feathers, and in it was a small hunk of gold that glittered in the sunlight. The Coatl was offering it to them. Eve eyed it with distrust and the Coatl set the gold down, and then nudged it towards them, retreating a bit further back into the hole, showing that he wasn't going to attack. "Is that for us?" Arrix asked and the Coatl nodded in agreement. "Thank you, we don't have anywhere to put it though. We...don't have a hoard," Arrix admitted. Eve watched as the Coatl reached forward and pushed the gold towards them anyway. Arrix reached out and took the proffered gift. "You're in my lair," Eve snapped, glaring at the dragon. The Coatl's eyes widened and then he quickly left the hole, standing out in the open and looking so vulnerable and abashed that she felt bad for snapping at him. A few blue and yellow tipped feathers were left behind in the hole she had dug out. "Do you have a name?" Adrian asked. The Coatl blinked at the Fae, clearly confused. "A name? You know...what to call you," Arrix added and the confusion left the Coatl's face. With one claw he dug into the earth in front of him. Eve peered at the name in the dirt. Halben "I don't think he can understand you Adrian," Arrix said and the Fae sighed. "Can you speak?" Eve asked and Halben shook his head. "Can you understand us?" We don't have a clan either," Arrix decided and the Coatl brightened considerably, feathers fluffed and a grin spreading across his face. Three had become four, and while that was a good number, Adrian wasn't certain it was a good idea to add another dragon to their group. It was going to be difficult enough to get three of them into the ranks of Reedsong Heights, and now they had a fourth? Still, four was a better number than three. Another body meant more help getting tasks done such as gathering, hunting, and building. Speaking of building...his eyes flicked to the small hole that Eve had crudely carved out of the fallen redwood tree. The trunk was large enough to accommodate a much larger space, but Eve had clearly been in a hurry. The talon marks were uneven and jagged. "We should build more spaces for all of us," Adrian decided and then flew over to the tree, hovering around a spot he thought looked good. "That's a good idea. We're not all going to fit into Eve's lair. Unless we want to make one large area to sleep in?" Arrix asked. "I don't particularly want to share," Eve gave Arrix a look of distaste. Adrian had a feeling it had to do with how dirty the Mirror was. To be fair, Arrix was lower to the ground, and didn't have the clearance that the larger Wildclaw did. Halben stepped forward to the tree, under the area that Adrian was hovering by and extended one claw forward and dragging it harshly through the redwood bark. A moment later a surprisingly even square had been scratched into the bark. It was almost the same size as Eve's, but a little lower to the ground. "Yours?" Arrix asked and Halben nodded with a wide grin, clearly pleased with his work. "Do you want to carve one out for Arrix and Adrian too?" Eve asked the Coatl. "Not necessary, I'll dig my own," Arrix replied quickly, trying to make sure that Halben didn't go to any unnecessary effort. "I can take care of my own shelter," Adrian decided, and felt his crest flick in annoyance as Arrix had to translate. "We better move fast, night is falling quickly," Eve suggested as she began to refine her makeshift home. Adrian flew high up into the redwoods, searching for tree sap to build his own temporary shelter. He could hear Arrix digging, deciding to make her lair underneath the tree instead of inside it. Halben was making quick, neat work of his own lair, using small streams of summoned water to clear away the sawdust and splinters. Adrian flew down to Eve's area with his gathered sap and hastily began to build his nest inside the upper right of her own lair. "What do you think you're doing!?" she cried, eyeing the sappy mess he had created for himself as he spun and wove it expertly. "Making my own shelter. This tree is too close to the ground. All sorts of things can snap me up. You're big. They won't get near you. This is the safest place for me to build," Adrian reasoned, crest flaring and twitching as he worked. "Why not with one of the others?" Eve growled, irritation heavy in her voice. "One, you understand me. Halben would not be a good match. Arrix is in the dirt, so the sap will not stick properly in her lair. That leaves yours," Adrian reasoned. "You could just ask and we'd make you your own nearby," Eve suggested. "I like this arrangement," he decided, crest turning up at his words. "Well thanks for asking if I like it," Eve snapped, but she laid down at the entrance of her small lair and let it go. Adrian nodded to himself, pleased that she had given in. She might not be as tough as she looked, but if anything came out of the woods, he wanted them to have to get through her first. It was just a good survival tactic.

She shook off the sleep from her eyes and stretched, a yawn drawn out from her as she did so. Padding out into the morning light she took in the sunrise. Hunger gnawed at her at a grumble rose from her stomach. So much for a peaceful morning. They would have to get food. Their stores were dismally low, and they had an extra mouth to feed. She wracked her brain to try and remember what types of food they all ate. Halben would eat seafood and only seafood. Coming from Water, he'd probably be the best person to find his own food. She knew little about fishing, but could dart her head into streams to snag a snack with the best of them. Certainly he'd know better techniques? Adrian would be an insect eater, so she'd have to find something for him. The thought of eating bugs was distasteful, but only because they were so small. Just a bite and it was done. Although, Adrian was much smaller in stature. One bug for him would go a long way to filling him up. Eve was like her, a meat eater. That was good. Familiar territory. Her size and speed would be an asset in hunting, and Arrix knew she'd be a good hunting partner. That left Halben or Adrian for their third. She knew she could catch some seafood from the local streams, but she knew less about hunting for bugs. Adrian would have to join them and show her the ropes so she could help in the future. "Time to wake up, we need to hunt. Eve. Adrian. With me, come on. Up!" Arrix knocked her tail against the redwood, making a loud thump that had all her companions grumbling and malcontent. "Come on Arrix, it's early. We worked hard yesterday. Let us sleep a little longer," Eve protested as she covered her face with her tail, trying to hide from the inevitable duties of the day. "You did the least of everyone yesterday, that's no excuse. Up!" Arrix demanded and was pleased to see that the Wildclaw gave in and exited the tree (even if she rolled her eyes). Adrian seemed a little less grumpy as he emerged from his small tree sap lair, but his eyes were half lidded with sleep and he lazily perched on one of Eve's horns. Halben stepped out of his own lair and gave her a questioning look. "I'm going to need you to stay behind for now Halben. Keep an eye on our lair, make sure no intruders come into the area and stay safe until we return okay?" Arrix asked. The Coatl seemed uncertain but eventually he nodded and straightened up, taking his job as a guard of the area seriously. Arrix hid a toothy grin as she turned away from the group and led them on their first hunt as a group. All in all, the day was a success. Arrix worked them hard. Gathering. Hunting. Fighting. They made a balanced team. Arrix was brutal and hard hitting. Eve was fast and her strikes were calculated. Adrian kept their foes distracted and weakened with his magic and helped with healing potions when one of them made a bad decision and took a heavy hit. Their moods were much better upon the return to the fallen redwood. Bellies full and a good deal of supplies gathered, they had managed to gather enough for a few days of rest. Arrix wasn't sure she was going to work them as hard the next day, but she needed to get Halben out with them the next time. He he was going to stay with them, he needed to get stronger too. "Halben, I brought you some lunch!" Arrix called upon their return. The Coatl was at her side in a second, faster than she had thought he could move. He scarfed down the fish she had captured, not seeming to mind the teeth marks between some of the scales. "Hungry were you?" Eve asked, eyes wide as she watched the fish vanish. He looked up, and gave an almost guilty smile as he nodded. "I'll get you some more tomorrow, okay?" Arrix promised and the Coatl looked pleased at the prospect of more food. Arrix looked the Coatl over again. He was covered in so many feathers she couldn't really tell how skinny he was from the bulk of fluff, but his tail was knobby, as were his wrists and ankles. She hadn't noticed the day before, but the dragon was half starved. He clearly hadn't eaten in a long time. She was glad she hadn't brought him with them, he was probably weak from hunger and wouldn't have been able to be at his peak. That crisis had barely been averted. She made a mental note to be more observant in the future. Today's success had been pure luck. @demitri

Halben would eat seafood and only seafood. Coming from Water, he'd probably be the best person to find his own food. She knew little about fishing, but could dart her head into streams to snag a snack with the best of them. Certainly he'd know better techniques?
