It is not even very cold, but you can feel the air desert you, and the light grow dimmer. You will drown, you think, almost absent-mindedly, when you see a small spark of light in the darkness, approaching you. It comes closer very fast, and you think you can make out a dragon's shape, a guardian, perhaps, but you do not care much, for you are lacking air. The guardian grabs you, knocking the last bit of breath out of your lungs, and the only thing you remember before your vision fades is four eyes suddenly staring intently at you, and the muted glow of a water rune. When you open your eyes again, you realize you are still surrounded by water, but it does not seem threatening anymore, but welcoming and calming. You can breathe now. Not breathe perhaps, not in the sense of the word, but you feel comfortable. Only now you notice the blue guardian looming over you, and the much smaller mirror by her side. "The Tidelord has accepted you into his domain. Welcome.", he speaks hissingly, and the guardian adds, in a much deeper voice than her mate, "I am Terwe, and the ones who are not quite drowned are my charge. If you want this to be your new home, then so be it." The Not Quite Drowned are a group of dragons residing deep down in the cliff face of the Leviathan Trench. They are led by Terwe, a Guardian of indeterminable age and shimmering blue scales, shaped by the Lord of Tides himself. Her charge is a vague one, but for the last decades she has faithfully taken care of those who have almost been claimed by the sea. The lair will provide shelter to those rescued, offering them a place to stay or safe passage back to the mainland. Few choose to stay, but those that do usually stay for life. Terwe is assisted in her mission by her mate, Velveyn, a sleek Mirror. As Terwe is not a dragon of many words, he does most of the talking, and as a high priest of the Tidelord, he is also responsible for the initiation ritual that relieves the water pressure and provides dragons of other flights with water breath. Those few that wish to stay in the abyssal darkness are mainly dragons heeding a prophecy or who wish to join the ranks of the powerful Trenchguard, the lair's main security measure. Some, especially Water dragons, find that their own prophetic power are dragging them deeper into the Trench, closer to His whispers. There is always a safe, if not very comfortable resting place for these young oracles with the Not Quite Drowned. There is only a handful of regular lair members that does not fit any of these groups, and they are mostly dragons who want some peace and quiet to hone their skills or challenge themselves, like the lair's alchemists and mages.

The Not Quite Drowned are a group of dragons residing deep down in the cliff face of the Leviathan Trench.

This is why the Whispering Reeds are mostly found in the area bordering the Tangled Wood, these swampy, dusky grounds proving the most comfortable surrounding for them. They are mostly comprised of Shadow dragons and mages who worship the Tidelord along their original deity. Those who join the ranks of the Moonlost believe that the Tidelord's disappearance may have something to do with the portal opening at Thorndark Altar. Whatever the connection may be, it is worth being investigated. Contrary to their main faction, the Moonlost are not interested in assisting lost travellers or spreading the words of Him beneath the waves - the only lost one they care about is said deity, and they are very single-minded in their quest.
