We are alone in the darkness, you and I. A fate shared by two, from events a thousand years in the making. The fate of the world is so carelessly left in our hands, so that we must not, no, cannot fail.

Terrible things, disgusting abominations born from the depths of the earth crawling through cracks to the surface, with a mission to destroy the world. When you hear the Leviathan’s call, remember, Polaris my love: do not go gentle into that good night, rage, rage against the dying of the light.

This lore story involves the subspecies, The Hivemind, created by M42. They are a great subspecies worth checking out, and lead for my inspiration of an “antagonist” of my lore story!

The moon was out in full; its blank canvas gracing the skies above The Cloudsong. Dragons sat down on bridges, connecting the vast fortresses of bamboo together in some semblance of a community. They watch the stars on this peaceful summer’s eve, wondering what flies beyond the atmosphere above. Insects cry out into the darkness, and frogs croak far below the platforms. The beat of the night plays on as background noise to the idle chatter between groups of dragons. Time passes, before one of the dragons notices something quite odd about one of the stars in the heavens. It was burning hotter and more intensely than any of the other stars around it. At first there was denial- “Do not worry friend, it is just a lightning bug,” “friend, it is just the same as a few moments ago!” The dragons attempted to remain calm, but as the searing ball of light in the sky grew bigger, panic ensued among the once content dragons. A coatl took notice of this, looking up to the chaos of the night sky. Her eyes followed the ball of light for a moment, before clamoring to gather her belongings. A telescope, some paper, and pens, all the necessities of life that one must have in the event of a natural disaster. She held the telescope, and scribbled unintelligible lines onto the parchment- it made sense to her, at least. The coatl concluded that, thankfully, the so-called meteor would not hit any necessary structures- lives would be spared, to say the least. This news unfortunately did not calm the mass, as hysteria broke out like a malicious disease. The coatl, disappointed that the common dragon could not comprehend scientific reasoning that they would not all die, gathered her equipment. By the time the sun began to peek over Ascent, all had cleared the platforms. It lay barren; many dragons sought shelter inside their homes, while others chose to flee the vicinity. The ball of flame that hurdled down from the skies made impact somewhere in the vast bamboo forests. A great fire shot up from the ground, and a deafening boom quaked across the land. In the dying darkness, one must witness the wondrous fury of the stars, an event set in motion lifetimes ago! The coatl shielded her head under one of her wings, in an attempt to keep her balance, and not to fall to the ground. She waited some time, something that felt as if it would never end. The coatl’s claws dug into the soft grass, feeling the vibrations of the earth below. As the loud rumbling finally subsided, an eerie silence rested down on the land. The coatl soon set off into the bamboo forest, determined to find the impact site. As the coatl meandered through the bamboo shoots, she came upon an opening surrounded by smouldering stalks of bamboo that indicated this is where the impact had occured not so long ago. The coatl stepped forward, feet gently tapping the ground to feel its heat. When she stepped on a patch of dirt too hot, the coatl stepped back, wincing in pain. It took her some time, methodically finding her way closer to the center of the impact site. When she finally made it to the center , she found an oddly cracked rock. It was hollow on the inside-slightly cracked open, possibly from the impact itself- and seemed fragile, almost like shale. The coatl gently nudged it, only to find- it moved! The coatl stepped back, a natural reflex to the sudden scuttering below her. From inside the cracked rock, a tiny face peered out. By all means the little creature resembled a fae, but clearly whatever created it took some….artistic liberties, if one might say. Its face lacked eyes, for starters, and little antennae sprouted from its head. The fae’s body looked as if it had been forged in the heavenly bodies beyond the stars, for its skin resembled the night sky. The fae crawled out of the egg, facing towards the coatl. “Who...are you..?” its small voice called out. The coatl’s feathers flared up, shocked that it could understand the fae. The fae stepped backwards, its back arching in surprise from the sudden flare. The two dragons stared each other down, both surprised by one another. The coatl was the first to calm down, and her feathers lowered back down her neck, though her eyes were still set on the fae. “I am..Amaranth,” She replied softly. This seemed to soothe the poor fae, whose back was no longer arched. “Who are you..?” Amaranth asked, trying to get the fae to talk again. “..I am..Polaris..” The two made quiet and small conversation, with “what are you”s, and “where am I”s. Not much progress was made in discovering what Polaris actually was, though the two had come to agreement they meant no harm to each other. Amaranth was still shocked she could even hear the fae; usually the sounds from most faes were near impossible to process, though Polaris spoke clear as day to her. The morning passed, and the afternoon’s heat was upon them. Something tugged on Amaranth’s heartstrings- she could not leave the poor hatchling in the forest. Amaranth had decided to take in the small hatchling- she needed some excuse for why Polaris looked the way she did though, as the elemental representatives may not be eager to letting a small space alien join their ranks. But if the clan would take her in, it would keep her safe from the wilds. Polaris carried the meteor fragments, and climbed onto Amaranth’s back for the journey home. She set off towards the Cloudsong once again, just as she had done the day before, but this time..something felt different. Amaranth felt something unusual about the hatchling, as if some unforetold destiny whispered softly about Polaris. A new beginnings, possibly. Amaranth also felt something unusual beside her crest feathers, before a sudden sharp pain. She audibly hissed, before turning to see what Polaris had gotten herself into. To her surprise, the small fae was gnawing on a plucked feather. The stars shine down onto the earth with dazzling light.
