Around the World
Without Leaving Home!
A Lore Game for the Not-So-Adventurous
Inspired by trading games like World Tour, as well as many of the wonderful lore threads in Dragon Share, Around the World Without Leaving Home is a lore writing game for those who like the idea of their dragons visiting other dragon clans, but would prefer to keep their dragons stored in their home lairs instead of sending them out to other players - as well as for players who love to write lore, but don't want to add any other dragons to their lairs.
How Can I Participate?
I'm glad you asked! There are two ways to participate: first, sending your dragons Around the World' by adding them to the active travellers spreadsheet, and second, by writing a short piece of lore for others' dragons about their 'visit' to your lair. You can choose to participate in just one way, or you can do both!Sending Your Dragons Around the World
- To add a dragon to the spreadsheet of active travellers, please fill out the following form: Add Dragon Form. Your dragon's information will be automatically added! Note: by adding a dragon you accept the fact that others' ideas for lore may not be identical to your own. If you have a very specific arc or such in mind for a dragon, they're probably not a good candidate.
- Please do not add more than two active dragons to the sheet at one time. Everyone deserves to have a turn! (You are more than welcome to add additional dragons after removing previous ones - just no more than two active at once.)
- After adding your dragon, you may want to reply to this thread to let others know that there is a new dragon on the active traveller list!
- When you decide that your dragon's journey should come to end and want it to return home, PM me (@vegastellaris) with the subject line "My ATW dragon is coming home!" and include the dragon's name and ID in the message body and I will delete it from the active travellers sheet.
- You are encouraged, but not required, to write lore for other travelling dragons after adding your own.
- Please remember to thank the writers who write for your dragons!
Writing Lore for Around the World Dragons
- Take a look at the active travellers spreadsheet for dragons that interest you. The dragons' pictures are linked to their pages so you can click through to visit their profile and read any existing lore they may have.
- Once you've found a dragon you're interested in, check to see if its owner has included any notes. If they've listed anything as a Do Not Want (DNW) should not be including in your lore, full stop. Aside from DNWs, anything goes! Some owners may have other prompts/requests but you're not obligated to use them.
- Now that you've picked a dragon, pretend they're on a journey and have come to your lair for a little while, and write about what happens! Once you're done writing make a new reply to this thread, ping the dragon's owner, and share the dragon's new experiences!
- ALTERNATE OPTION: If you know you really want to write for a specific dragon, but don't have time at present, you can post a 'claim' (much like in dragon share) to let a dragon's owner know you'll be writing for it. If you choose to make a claim post first please edit the post to include your lore within ten days.
- Lore should be a minimum of 100 words long. There is no maximum, but please be mindful of the fact that many dragons may have lore from lots of authors, and at some point you will run into the profile character limit.
Housekeeping
I've tried to structure this game so it'll mostly run itself without needing much interference from me (and in the future, I hope to be able to add more functionality to make all spreadsheet functions automated) - however, I'll still be checking in to make sure things are running smoothly. I hope that we can all have fun writing together!
You can ping me (@vegastellaris) in this thread or PM me with subject line "Around the World Game" if you need to get my attention or report an issue (please be patient if you don't receive a response immediately; I'm not online every second of every day but I'll do my best to get back to you as soon as I'm able).
Golden Rule Policy wrote:
Participation in this game operates on a three strikes basis. If I receive complaints about a user from other participants, or see someone deliberately breaking one of the above guidelines, I’ll speak to them privately and record the incident. If the user continues to participate in bad faith they’ll be asked to leave the game permanently after two more incidents.
Overcrowding Policy wrote:
If the sheet ever gets too crowded with a high number of active travellers, I will ping the owners of the 25% of dragons on the sheet who have been there the longest asking for volunteers who are ready for their dragons to come home. The sheet is currently set up to hold ~80 dragons with a potential maximum of 200 - but nonetheless, please don’t leave your dragons on the sheet forever! If this game ends up proving particularly popular, I may in the future institute an official maximum, but I don't anticipate this being necessary anytime soon.
Inactivity Policy wrote:
If a dragon has been listed on the spreadsheet for longer than three months and its owner's lair appears inactive (unfed dragons, no recent forum posts, etc), I will PM the dragon's owner. If they don't reply to the PM within one week, the dragon will be removed from the spreadsheet.
