You open your eyes. You have no idea what happened, but you had been casually greeting other dragons you seemed to pass by at the trading post... but everything went black, and you woke up.. here.
’Here’, specifically being behind a large waterfall in a roughly dug out cave, claw marks on the rocks where dragons desparately scrabbled at the rocks to create a shelter. There are a multitude of trinkets laying around, different items of all sizes, and types. It was an interesting scene.
You had been laying on the uncomfortable, and rickety floor of the cave, and stretch out, your wings nearly touching the low ceiling that the cave seemed to have.
Frowning, you tread carefully through the cave, stepping around the trinkets that litter the floor like garbage, and approach the waterfall, where you peek your head through an opening of the waterfall.
As you poke your head out, the voices of other dragons can be heard echoing through the air... it didn’t sound like a pleasant conversation, the yelling scaring away nearby animals, and even making you flinch a bit.
What you see is nearly more confusing than the loud, angry yelling, as you spot two dragons- two female dragons, a fae and skydancer, both looking rather freaked out.

”What do you mean you found them floating around in the water? You don’t just find dragons floating around in the sea like driftwood!” The fae exclaims, kicking up sand into the skydancer’s face- good thing she had goggles on.
”Well I just did! I can’t help with what I find! Besides, they were heavy, and carrying them all the way back to this beach was tiring!” The skydancer says exasperatedly, flaring her wings to and fro frantically. She seemed even more confused than you feel.
”Well, the clan collector’s are gonna be here soon, and I’m sure they don’t wanna find a knocked out, and drenched dragon in the Safe Den! We have to figure out what to do with them, and fast!” The fae hisses anxiously, turning around to where you were- taking two moments or so to notice that you were awake.
The skydancer turned her head as well, and if you could see through those goggles, she might’ve even been blinking in shock.
Leaning towards the fae, the skydancer whispers not too quietly, “They’re uh... they’re awake...” Which in turn, causes the fae to flick the skydancer under the chin, frowning.
”I see that! Great! Now the dragon is awake!” The fae hissed, suddenly taking the time to tromp over to you, her hat dipping over her eyes as she defiantly looked up at you.
”Since when do dragons like to float around in the water like a limp noodle? Making Karetha stop her diving expedition, and carrying you here like a wet blanket! I swear to the Tidelord you’re trying to anger us, and get yourself drowned!” The fae growled, taking the time to hop up many times to grab you by the ear, yank you down to her height, an intense snarl on her face.
”And now we have to be hospitable because of our clan’s rules! I would’ve chosen to let you drown in the water!” Seemingly done with their rage, the fae shoved you towards Karetha with many rams into your side, sending you almost sprawling over to the skydancer.. for a small fae, she packed a lot of rage.
”Etegue! Stop being so rude!” Karetha said in a panic, scolding the fae sternly, before turning to you with an awkward, and anxious smile, fiddling with her claws.
”Terribly sorry about her.. she gets rather angry when she’s out of the lair for too long, and forced on deep-sea expeditions..” Karetha explains, having you lay down.
Scrambling away and back into the cave you awakened in, Etegue’s dark mumbling follows her as she starts to bring out the items you had seen in the cave, creating a huge pile- it seemed like a lot of work.
Finally, you had the courage to speak, turning to Karetha with a confused look, “Is.. ‘Etegue’,” you paused for a moment, having troubles pronouncing the fae’s name, “....alright?”
”Yeah.. she’s just really grumpy today. She isn’t a dragon that likes to deal with- well, you. Specifically dragons floating around in the ocean and forcing her to pause her work.” Following after Etegue, Karetha starts to help pile the items outside, having you walk beside her.
Although hesitantly, you follow after and stand just beside the huge pile of things- you could even say it could rival the magnitude of items at Pinkerton’s, but that was putting it a bit too high.
Etegue pauses, as she seemingly... is holding her claws in the air as a pile of items is floating in the air- you assumed it was some sort of magic, but didn’t want to get into the details. But, nonetheless, Etegue pauses to look at you with an accusing glare.
”Are you going to help us? I don’t expect you to sit around and just watch us like you just hatched out of your egg-“ Etegue snapped, the fins on the sides of her head fanning out in aggravation. She really did seem irritated with your very presence.
As you hesitantly stand up and enter the cave, Karetha gives you a nervous smile, as she begins to explain what you need to do, “It’s simple, really. We just need to gather the items we’ve collected over the week and outside, where our clan collector’s will come and bring back to the lair. I can explain more once we get there. For now, just grab whatever you can and bring it out into the pile.”
They were simple instructions, really, but what confused you was when you saw that Karetha had resorted to using her wings to carry items, balancing them carefully and treading at a normal walking pace- you were sure she was going to drop something.
Of course, you were wrong, as Karetha walks out of the cave with ease, and finally leaves you to look around in the low-ceiling cave- the Safe Den, as Etegue called it.
Shaking your head and finally getting to what you were told to do, you pick up a few simple trinkets and begin to walk out and add to the pile, eventually leading to bigger things, hauling them out on your back, or even going as far to try and have fun by balancing things on your head as you walk out.
Soon enough, with the combined work of Etegue, Karetha and yourself, everything in the cave had been safely brought out onto the pile, the sun high in the sky and shining behind the tall pile.
Rather tired out, you all sat in front of the pile, Etegue even seemingly huffing from all the weight she had pulled. But nonetheless, you were finished, the pile sitting completed.
”Great. We’ve finished.” Etegue mumbled, looking at the tall pile rather proudly, and blinks, turning to you with owlish, electric blue eyes. Her proud looked seemed to immediately sour when she looked at you.
”Now we have to wait- and bring you back to the lair- even a hatchling could see that you’re in no condition to be wandering back to wherever you came from.” She pokes you harshly in the chest, still glaring at you intensely, and sits down, looking far off to the ocean.
Karetha nodded in agreement, as the skydancer sat right next to Etegue- they didn’t seem to have anything planned in particular, but whatever they were waiting for was surely taking a long time.
As the three of you waited in a baited silence, the beating winds of wings gliding in the air filling the quiet silence, as four dragons could be seen as simple silhouettes, carrying... a huge, empty net between them all.
”Now the collectors are here, and I really don’t wanna carry you.” Etegue snorted, looking at you venemously, as the four dragons landed, revealing an assortment of two faes, a coatl, and an imperial.
While everyone interacted with one another, sharing greetings and gibberish and terms you did not understand, one of the fae’s peered at you suspiciously, his golden wings flexxing in curiosity.

Pointing at you, the fae chirrupred to Etegue, “Who is this?” He seemed the least bit suspicious of you, which was understandable..
Looking away from the conversation she was having with the Imperial, Etegue frowned at him, then you, and then him, “that’s a dragon that Karetha found floating around in the ocean. She insisted to bring them back and I saw her carrying ‘em to the beach.”
”Ah, I see,” The fae turned back to you, a now friendly smile on his face, “it seems as if you haven’t been given much time to rest comfortably- why don’t you come back to our lair and rest up there? Then we can send you off to go flying back to your clan.” He seemed like a genuinely nice dragon- a lot more accepting than Etegue was.
Reluctantly nodding, you had to accept their offer. Even you still felt a bit tired, and rather confused as to why you were floating around in the ocean when you were just at the trading post.
”Alright, great- if you need any help flying, I’m sure Lixent will help you. Etegue can take her spot in carrying a corner of the net.” He nodded, giving you a grin as the nearby imperial blinked at you- you were assuming they were Lixent.
Soon after, the dragons began to pile the things in the large mess of items you had helped Karetha and Etegue create earlier, into the net that didn’t really look like a net. More like a big, gray wide blanket.
Nearly watching, you sat there as they all easily dumped the items onto the blanket-net thingy, and blinked when Etegue, the two other fae's, and the coatl each went to a separate corner of the net.
You, Karetha, and Lixent all watched as they lifted the blanket into the sky, heaving with arms that have done this for so many years- it was confusing as to how they were even able to manage.
Lixent nodded to you, urging you to fly into the air- she would catch you from below if you started to fall and waver, as Karetha already lifted off, watching for any items that might fall out of the net and putting it back in.
Hesitantly, you flew off from the ground in a 'woosh' following the huge net and other dragons, Lixent following after you more slowly, watching you.
While you flew with the group, a small voice in your head kept on asking, "Who are these dragons? What are they doing with all these items? How did I get here?", it was naturally filling your head, which is also why you didn't hear Lixent when she started to fly next to you instead of under.
”You don’t seem so tired. Why do I need to fly under you?” Lixent asks, peering at you in some sort of mock curiosity- looks like she wanted to mess with you a bit.
With a confused expression, you blinked back in confusion, “I’m... I’m not sure. Your.. friend over there told you to.. so...” Unsure of how to answer the rest of her question, you trail off, looking away.
”You mean Yakuraba? He’s too considerate for his own good... he would have had me done it anyways if you were in top condition.” She snickers in reply, beating her strong wings in rhythm to yours.
”Oh... I see. Sorry about that then.” Focusing back on flying, you realize that in the distance, there’s a silhouetted, tall expanse of an island. It looms far above you when you start to get closer, a tall spire that rose in the air.
You look closer, realizing that there were buildings of many sorts built into the sides of sandy cliffs, or catwalks stringing off of huge beaches- you even saw some dragons, who looked up at you, and waved with big grins.
“Is this.. uh.. your clan’s lair?” Looking at Lixent, your claws start to flex in curiousity-
“Yeah, pretty much. It’s kinda just a huge, tall island. We call it “Sand Sand Pier”, since... well, the majority of the island has a huge spire poking out of it. It’s an interesting name, nonetheless,” Lixent shrugs, as the four other dragons before you carrying the huge gray net/blanket start to lower their altitudes, and closer to a beach below, where many other dragons crowded and waited, “We might as well start heading down now, before you crash down yourself from exhaustion.”
Nodding in some sort of slight agreement, you start to ascend onto the beach with the others, your claws landing in the shallow waters of the beach, the ocean washing against your legs coolly.
Immediately as Lixent, and the others land, the small crowd of dragons let out a small cheer, the gray blanket that they held being set down gently, some of the contents spilling out as it lays flat.
“Welcome to Sand Sand Pier, where the clan Lead Out lives and roams regularly.” Lixent chirrs to you, walking deeper into the island and leaving the crowd of dragons behind... and you.
