[b][i]Realms[/i][/b] There exist different realms in this universe. Sornieth is one of those realms, just like the Otherworld. Realms exist parallel to each other, and never touch. How many exist is unknown. [b][i]Otherworld[/i][/b] The Otherworld is the in-between this life and the next. Souls will enter the Otherworld, and from there the will enter their choice of the afterlife, be resurrected, be reincarnated, etc. It is extremely rare for a soul to return from the Otherworld. If they somehow do, it's almost always as an Undead. In general, not much information about the Otherworld is known, and most dragons who know of its existence got their facts wrong and think it's the final destination. [b][i]Limbo[/i][/b] Limbo is a plane of existence, which exists on Sornieth. This is the place where souls are, and it's (almost) impossible to interact with creatures in Limbo from Sornieth. The only known exception, are the Undead. Limbo is still a very abstract term, and it seems like the laws of physics do not apply here. [b][i]Souls[/i] [/b] The souls that roam Sornieth are the spiritual leftovers from a deceased dragon. The emotion felt upon death determine if a soul passes on to the Otherworld, or will get stuck in Limbo as a Malevolent or Benevolent soul. If the emotion felt is a strong negative aggressive emotion - like anger - there is a chance the soul can become a malevolent one. If the emotion felt is a very strong negative, but passive emotion - like sadness - the soul can get trapped in Limbo as a benevolent soul. It is possible more forms of souls exist, but this is unknown. [b][i]Gate[/i][/b] The Gate is a manifestation of energy, connecting Sornieth with the Otherworld. It opens a certain 'Hallway' through which souls can pass. They manifest on places on Sornieth where the Otherworld is close to Sornieth. To illustrate: Both Sornieth and the Otherworld are a piece of paper, hovering above each other. They both bend, and sometimes they almost touch on certain spots. On these spots, a Gate manifests. When both pieces of paper move away from each other again, the Gate disappears again. Multiple Gates can exist at once. [b][i]Hallway[/i][/b] The Hallway is the name of the passageway between Sornieth and the Otherworld, accessible through a Gate. It exists in the Nothingness. (Almost) all souls will move towards the Otherworld. Very rarely, something moves towards Sornieth. [b][i]Nothingness[/i][/b] The Nothingness is the space between realms. It can be safely traveled with the help of Hallways. The Nothingness is home to certain Eldritch Beings, and it can't be accessed by normal dragons, including members of the S.H.I. (Feel free to suggest anything!) [i][b]Malevolent souls[/b][/i] - these souls are aggressive and evil, and are likely to hurt any unsuspecting dragons. It is very likely that a dragon who dies feeling a strong negative aggressive emotion - like anger - will turn into a malevolent soul. They can be caught using a familiar who exists both in Sornieth and Limbo, like a Tatterwing Carcass, or by the use of an enchanted weapon which can affect beings in Limbo. [i][b]Benevolent souls[/b][/i] - these souls are passive and good, and are likely to simply roam around without causing any harm. It is very likely that a dragon who dies feeling a strong negative, but passive emotion - like sadness- will turn into a benevolent soul. It’s a protection sigil used by S.H.I. members to protect themselves against evil of any sort and form. It can be found on banners, weapons, and even as tattoos on dragons.[/columns] [font=Century][color=#69605d][size=4][b]What about the S.H.I. history?[/b] It seems it was first established in the first centuries after the creation of Sornieth before being destroyed by an unknown force or entity. It then stayed inactive for centuries, before resurfacing recently. [b]Where is the S.H.I. located?[/b] The S.H.I. headquarters are somewhere in an abyss in the Windswept Plateau. Every region has their own sub-quarters, which are connected to the HQ by underground tunnels. This location is used for most of S.H.I. operations, including weapon making and housing of members. However, dragons are free to stay with their original clan. [b]How does one join?[/b] Since the S.H.I. is a secret society, it’s difficult to just ‘join’. Most members join by recommendation by a S.H.I. member after noticing a certain ability that would benefit the S.H.I. After a dragon is noticed as a possible new member, they will be tested by members without letting the dragon know anything about the S.H.I. If the dragon shows enough potential, they’ll be asked to join and start their training. A new member will be assigned to an experienced member in their same area of expertise. They will perform their tasks together, learning in the field rather than from books. [b]Who leads the Initiative?[/b] There’s no real leader, but one would argue that Maeve is the one in control. She has a special connection to both the S.H.I. and the place where the HQ was re-built. However, she does not make decisions herself – she always decides together with Nakisisa and Yolihuani and any other dragons that might be involved. [b]How are souls found?[/b] There are different ways of finding soul. There can be sudden sightings by normal dragons, whose accounts reach the S.H.I. It’s also possible a trained familiar senses it, but this is limited to the reach of a familiar. Some use certain resources like ley lines. A Soul Whisperer also has the ability to sense souls, even from a far distance. [b]How are souls caught?[/b] Malevolent souls are caught by Hunters. They hunt down a soul, weaken it with the aid of a familiar and/or enchanted weapon (which is able to interact with object/creatures in Limbo), and then trap it in a vessel. Benevolent souls are caught by Collectors. They calm the soul with the aid of a familiar and/or instrument, and then trap it in a vessel. [b]What are vessels?[/b] Vessels are used to safely keep a soul trapped or bonded before releasing it near a Gate. They can be a variety of things. Most use enchanted pots or urns, which can hold several souls at once and will release the souls when shattered. Some prefer the use of an enchanted pendant, bracelet or other forms of jewellery to temporarily trap a soul. In rare occasions, a weapon can be enchanted to hold a soul, but this is not recommended since it can make the weapon unstable. It has been claimed that a weapon containing one or several souls gains certain abilities, but this has been unconfirmed [b]How does the S.H.I. make a living?[/b] Mainly by selling black market items. Most souls leave behind certain items, artefacts, energy, etc. which are very valuable. These items are highly sought after and can fetch a high price. There’s been a continues debate about the morality of this practice, however. There are also groups of S.H.I. members disguised as traveling caravans, trading items to make a living. [b]Does the S.H.I. keep a record?[/b] Yes. There’s a large library, dubbed the ‘Seed of Life’, in the HQ which contains several diary entries and encounter accounts, collected and written by several members over the years. The library has a large variety of subjects, including history, mathematics, natural science, art, and many other subjects. One of the most prized books is the Guide to the Creatures of Sornieth, a collection of creatures encountered by S.H.I. members.
