The Genesis
-------------
There was once an unexplored part of the Viridian Labyrinth. A section where the rain never stopped and those who entered never left. Some believe that the creatures of the woods stole dragons away. Some believed that the dragons who entered simply didn't want to leave. For good reason, as the war between the Plaguebringer and the Gladekeeper was young, but it was already bloody and terrified both Plague and Nature dragons.
The section of the Virdian Labyrinth, nicknamed the Veratii, was left unexplored for quite some time. The Veratii was named so after a word in a now extinct language meaning "Escape" thanks to the theories of why dragons never left. It was fitting; some theories claimed dragons willingly stayed in the Veratii, some theories claimed that the souls of those who were trapped were constantly trying to escape.
No one entered and left alive. Not ever since the first dragons stumbled across the borders of the Veratii, distinct due to the heavy rain on one side and lack of rain on the other. It stayed empty and feared until one dragon, reckless and with nothing left to live for, decided to brave the ever-storming part of the Viridian Labyrinth.
Her name was Pragama, meaning "Beyond" in the same extinct language. The Spiral was a Nature dragon who had lived in a Wind clan for all her life. Pragama was as fearless and adventurous as the rest of her clan, but she had never conformed. She wanted to connect with her roots, with the urge to empower the environment as the rest of her birth Flight does constantly plaguing her. So, Pragama traveled to the Viridian Labyrinth, deciding to try and find a way to truly become a Nature dragon.
So when Pragama stumbled upon the Veratii, she wasn't afraid. Not a local, she had no idea the legends of the land, how dragons would be swept away and never seen again. She had never heard the warning cries of the elders in the clan she was temporarily staying in, nor did she hear the stories that parents would tell their hatchlings about the Veratii. Pragama had no idea.
So, the dragon who was Wind at heart entered the forbidden land...
...Only to find herself in a strange clearing. There was no sunlight shining down, as the storm clouds blocked out any natural light. It was a large clearing surrounded by a ring of trees, nothing besides grass inside of it. The rain seemed lighter there despite the lack of flora to protect from the rain, but the ground was still soaked. Pragama had taken one look at the clearing bathed in grey and turned to leave and return back to the clan.
'Stop.'
A voice verberating in her head. Pragama at first believed it to be a dragon that appeared next to her somehow, but when she spun around to look for the voice, there was no one there. Something had changed, though. It was as if a switch had been flipped on in Pragama's mind by the voice. All of a sudden, she felt the urge to lead, to govern... To create a clan. The clearing in the Veratii seemed perfect.
So, after months of work, Pragama created the perfect safehaven in a cursed land. She accepted any lost dragons she found or any dragons that stumbled upon her territory. Very soon, the Veratii Clan was created. Pragama became the clan leader of the early Pragains.
With the intent of creating a safehaven in her mind, she knew there was something strange about all of the newcomers. A queen must do what she must, though. The ruler governs the subjects and the subjects serve the ruler.

The Ruler
-------------
(The Plutonian Era)
"I, Healer Orideusii, pronounce the new Queen of the clan; High Queen Plutonium."
Pluto grinned at the large crowd that had gathered to watch her coronation, her sharp fangs still stained red with blood. The lion's head mixed with a Mirror's body unsettled some of her now subjects. A few dragons shifted nervously, especially the ones that had stayed the longest in the clan. They didn't like the new Queen; barbaric, wild and on top of that, a Plague dragon that wasn't exactly a dragon. A Chimera, they called her. Leading a Nature clan. It just didn't sit well with the old-fashioned elders.
Her crimson eyes sparkled as she looked over the territory that was now hers. The Queen and King were the all-mighty rulers of the clan; none would dare to challenge them. And there hadn't been a King or second Queen for quite a while, the last Queen had been awfully picky. Pluto almost laughed as she didn't bother listening to the healer's speech that came every time a new Queen or King was crowned. No, there was no way she'd pick another to rule by her side. Pluto was essentially omnipotent within her clan, why should she share that power?
Within the next few days, the clan drastically changed. The Queen ordered the clan to move to the Scarred Wasteland. It made perfect sense for her to move back to her homeland, but as a Nature clan the rest of Pluto's subjects wouldn't be very happy to be treading into enemy territory. Luckily, the Veratii moved with them, never leaving the clan alone. It was strange to see a large forest in the Scarred Wastelands. Then there was the abolishment of the idea of two rulers; there would only be one King or Queen at a time. There couldn't be a King and Queen ruling at the same time.
To top it all off, Pluto completely changed the heads of power within the clan. The general became a new dragon from a Shadow clan, there were no more ambassadors, the treasury didn't even exist anymore, much less there was a treasurer and other changes. Pluto's actions scared the clan even more.
They couldn't get rid of this new terrifying Queen, though. The dictator had them all in her grasp. Pluto, just having earned her new title mere days ago, was starting to become renowned and feared across the Plaguebringer's domain. There were whispers of a ruthless Mirror with eyes the color of blood in a lion's skull leading eyes the color of spring and... That she was declaring war on the Plague Flight.
The Pragains were tired of the Queen. They wanted to rise up, but they feared what she would do if she found out about a rebellion. For the next few years, the Chimera continued her reign of terror, waging war against her home Flight, surrounding Flights and even clans that were previously allies of the Pragains.
It would be the turn of the century when Pluto would be challenged. The turn of the century when she would arrive. A newcomer.

Her name was Arahae. She was a strong, graceful, large Imperial that never seemed afraid of anything. Everywhere she went, rain seemed to follow. Even within the Veratii, the rain seemed to press down harder in her presence. Arahae was kind and caring, but just and strong-willed. She believed in honor and fighting only when provoked. Arahae was so much... Better than Queen Pluto.
Oh, and it made her mad. A year before, the prophet Borealis foretold that a newcomer would defeat Pluto in battle and take the throne. Although rarely would dragons enter the clan --it was if some force prevented any dragon without specific traits from entering-- there were still dragons coming into the clan. Pluto had ordered after the prophecy that any newcomers be executed, and it worked for a while. Or it seemed to, anyway. But prophecies are set in stone. A prophecy doesn't create the future, it is simply the telling of it, and nobody can change the future.
Not even a Queen.
So, when Arahae arrived, most of the dragons immediately knew she'd be dead in three days. Of course, they didn't want her dead, but they knew they couldn't challenge the Queen. After all, they'd let Pluto kill off five other newcomers before Arahae. So, when they saw a new dragon stumble through the mist, confused and even slightly terrified, they knew it was all over for her.
Except Arahae wouldn't have that. She was strong and proud even when Pluto ordered her execution, something that surprised the clan. Most dragons would have been shivering and crying for mercy, but not Arahae. A few were inspired to rise up, to speak against Pluto's command. Oh, they realized that freedom was something no one could never take away.
Yes, she inspired them. Inspired to fight back, to do what they had to to survive. The clan was split in two; the side fighting for Arahae and the side fighting for Pluto. The spark that had just started as an urge to speak up and prevent Arahae's execution had turned into a rebellion. It was a full-on civil war within the Veratii clan.
The rise of Arahae's reign started the day she arrived in the clan. The day that everything changed. The day that was declared Pluto's fall from the throne-- her descent.

The Descent
-------------
Pluto snarled as she slashed her claws at her opponent. Arahae jumped back, narrowly avoiding her throat being slashed. She growled and snapped her jaws, though her needle-like teeth closed around thin air. The two had been doing the same old song and dance for hours, not much injury inflicted to either of the two. They'd just been swiping and dodging.
She didn't want to give up the crown. Yet, Arahae wanted it. So, as per tradition, the current queen would duel with the contestant. The winner would be chosen by death or surrender, and they both knew neither of them would surrender.
Not to each other, anyway. They were both too stubborn for that. For hours, the two would fight, neither one giving up. There was a bit of blood, but in all honesty the battle was tense but uneventful. Eventually, though, Arahae managed to knock down Pluto. With a calm and strong voice, she said,
"Surrender or die."
Pluto growled, ready to fight back, but Arahae wouldn't let up. The Queen was about to retort when her eyes landed on the shocked Pragains. Then, the Chimera realized what she had to do. No matter how abhorrent the idea seemed, she would not go down fighting that day.
"I surrender."
She wouldn't let the new Queen destroy her clan. No, Pluto would be there, watching silently and quietly influencing the clan. No matter what Arahae may think, Pluto would forever remain in control.
Surprisingly, the clan cheered for Arahae. Those that followed Pluto begrudgingly pledged their loyalty to the new Queen. She was a good Queen in their eyes. Strong, merciful, smart. Of course, none of the Pragains truly knew who she was, but it didn't matter. All they saw was a perfect Queen.
None of the Pragains knew how cold and calculating their new Queen could be. How her friendly, warm and strong personality was really a front. How she would willingly sacrifice the lives of others just to save her own. Yes, she was smart and did genuinely seem to want the greater good, but she wasn't a true Queen. She didn't care about her subjects. And neither did the Pragains, as they worshipped her like a perfect goddess. Even the actual deities did so. Arahae was perfect.
And everything was perfect for a while. At least, until the expedition.

(The Erahian Era)
"I hereby banish you, former Queen Plutonium, from the Veratii clan into the Nezinams."
That day, Pluto had screamed. She had wildly slashed her claws at anything she could, killing about half a dozen dragons who were technically innocent. Despite her best efforts, she was forced into the Nezinams. No dragon knew what was in the Nezinams, giving it an air of intrigue but also instilling fear. The Pragains didn't want to believe they knew nothing, seeing as they knew the quiet secret that you could survive in the Veratii. Some theorized there was nothing. Others theorized there was something --or some things-- living in the Nezinams.
Pluto was not in the mood to find out.
All who entered the Nezinams could never return. Or, at least, that is what the sheltered members within the civilized part of the Veratii told themselves. Pluto knew better. She knew that it wasn't true, not at all. The Chimera had seen it with her own eyes, seen the dead stumble from the Nezinams and back into the clan. The only reason Pluto recognized the walking dead was that he seemed a bit too familiar and comfortable within the clan, and she eventually forced it out of him.
She would return. Save her clan from this new Queen, no matter what she had to do. No matter how much blood she had to draw.
While the former Queen was exiled from the clan, the new High Queen enacted her plan. The inhabitants of the Veratii were known as bloodthirsty killers within the Scarred Wasteland, and it would do no good for the clan to be surrounded by enemies. Or, at least, that's what High Queen Arahae reasoned when she announced the Veratii would be moving.
High Queens and Kings have the power to change the location of where the Veratii is. The power is draining, and such they can only do it once their powers have been regenerated. During this period, they have absolutely no powers and are as susceptible as any other dragon. Perhaps it was the power of a Queen that got to the head of Pluto and caused her to wage war against her own home flight.
Whatever the case, the Pragains accepted High Queen Arahae's explanation. They just didn't know the coming expedition would be the most pain and struggle the Veratii would see for the next century.
The Pragains were, as mentioned, fairly notorious. Except they didn't know that word had spread to other flights. It had even reached the Viridian Labyrinth. At first, everything was fine within the Veratii. The change from infections, sickly lands to lush green foliage was refreshing. When they exited the barrier separating them from the rainy pocket of land that really should not have existed, things were different. The first clan they stumbled upon, recognizing the insignia of the Pragains, attacked them on sight. Even though they were hardened from the time spent with the Plague flight, they were no match to this new nature magic. So they fled. Later on, they would try again, only to get similar results. After that, the Pragains decided that staying within the Veratii was the best idea, only leaving when necessary.
And plus, things were happening back at home. But for the time being, everything was calm. The barbarians were now the benevolent.

(The Erahian Era)
Arahae had plans for the clan she was now the Queen of.
Contrary to the beliefs of the Pragains, she hadn't arrived on accident. She wasn't led by the word of a prophet neither, believing there was no way to escape what would happen so she was going along with it. No, Arahae had come due to stories she had heard. Stories of things that weren't quite dragons yet looked exactly like them. Things that had grouped together into a wild, chaotic union that could be described as a clan. And that certainly interested Arahae, considering she herself was not quite a dragon.
But then she heard stories of the mysterious, foggy anomaly that is the Nezinams, a large swath of land in the anomaly that is the Veratii.
