Upon finding out her egg was created by the Arcanist, Nerien knew that her destiny was to create a rich and powerful clan, vibrant and alive. To that end, she left the family that had raised her and combed through the Starfall Isles until she chanced upon an overgrown crater, tucked against a spire of chalcedony off the Starwood Strand: the crater that would become Rara Avis. She started clearing it immediately, but did not make much headway until Aleksandr arrived and claimed her as his charge; even then, the arrival of Elurra and Amaranth was what really allowed the crater to become livable. Opening up new and fragile doors, Nerien named Aleksandr her King Founder, and herself the Queen Founder, ready to rule what she had made. Luck favored them in those days. They were joined by Momoka, the travelling potion-maker, and his three children; later came Oceana the artist and her husband, Helima the nest-tender, and Niril the fisher. Oceana's presence caused some small interest in the clan, drawing in Tamarix the gatherer and Melpomene the actor. Runewing, travelling through the land, elected to stay as well, serving as treasurer. Helima found and hatched a sickly Arcane egg discovered by a scavenger, resulting in the mysterious Elturgard. Arlen, one of Momoka's daughters, began to dream of starting a messenger system. Galasi, a builder from Wind, was hired with the clan's sparse gold. However, it wasn't until Galasi's excavations revealed a vein of amethyst and chalcedony that Rara Avis was truly put on the map. Hiring a minemaster, Bedek, the influx of trade and money finally catapulted Nerien's little clan to the heights she had dreamed of. Suddenly with many more eyes on them, dragons flooded the clan, starting shops, settling down and offering services, and filling the clan with life. Arlen's messenger system was a booming success, and Rara Avis became a truly marvelous clan, fully fledged and soaring. With many new dragons to govern and keep safe, Nerien named three residents her Council, and laid a nest with her husband that resulted in the hatching of Crown Princess Celina Goldkeep, the future of the clan. Though many clans were disrupted by the Bounty of the Elements' effect on the Crystalspine Reaches, Rara Avis only flourished more, suddenly gifted with yet more stock to trade and sell. Business was booming, and it attracted yet more dragons: the Red Feather Winery was set up in the clan by Linnaeus, Yorihime worked with the clan mage to run an antiquities and magic shop, and Halindor's opening of her tavern the Golden Rose allowed for yet more visitors. But with their fortune came other, more mysterious effects, bidden by the magic in Sornieth rising. Rara Avis' ambient magic became stronger and stronger, affecting its residents in unforseen ways. Pembe, a new hatchling, found herself trapped as an infant, never aging a day. The skeleton of a long-dead Imperial half-rose from its grave in the crater gardens, revived through the plant life growing over it. And, perhaps most noticeable of all, a mysterious Fae rose from the depths of the Starstone the night of an eclipse, her wings twinkling with stardust. [/columns] ----- [b][font=century gothic][size=3]THE FUTURE[/size][/font][/b] [columns] The birth of Starstone from their namesake was a sign of things changing in Rara Avis, and no one knew if it was for better or for worse. Their financial fortune did not fail, but the bigger they get, the more attention they attract, and the world is changing around them. In the Starwood Strand, a strange, robotic dragon mourns their lost love, while ghosts of the past haunt Rara Avis' coliseum team. Under the earth, Elturgard practices his craft, bidden by a dark specter of what was there before. For something is stirring deep underneath Rara Avis, something no one knows is there. They are careful, and hidden, but even the smallest movements will make ripples in the water. Virgo von Mordred appeared in the clan suddenly, and offered her services; they had no reason to suspect her and accepted her into their ranks. Not long after, they were contacted by the Children of the Blood-Mark, who offered one of their warriors to protect them... which they also accepted. There is a war brewing in Rara Avis, the emergence of something much more dangerous than a strange star-studded Fae. For though the history of the current clan starts with Nerien, the crater had a legacy long before she found it, overgrown and abandoned. Those that lived there before will not be forgotten, and their ancient ideals and goals are just as desirable as they were all those thousands of years ago. The crater has two distinct levels, with caves in varying sizes cut into the stone for shops, dens, and stores. A few lead down into the underbelly of the crater, where riches are stored and secrets hide in the shadows; others lead up into the spikes, which hum with arcane energy.[/right][/columns] ----- [b][font=century gothic][size=3]THE CRATER GARDENS[/size][/font][/b] [columns]Due to careful cultivation and Nature magics, Rara Avis is rich with plant life. Bordering the upper level are thick bushes and flowering vines which trail down lower, and the bottom level supports shrubbery, flowers and a variety of small trees. Currently the gardens are tended to primarily by Amaranth, the clan herbalist, but Linnaeus' vineyard is situated here as well.[nextcol][img]https://i.imgur.com/uWH1K71.png[/img][/columns] ----- [right][b][font=century gothic][size=3]THE SPIKES[/size][/font][/b] [columns][img]https://i.imgur.com/RquEzlb.png[/img][nextcol]Surrounding the crater are a series of inward-curving chalcedony spikes, much like the Crystalspine Reaches themselves. A few of these spikes have been hollowed out to form storage or living spaces. The tallest of these is known as the Arcanist's Finger, and provides a working space for Raisa and Callisto. The clan guard commonly uses the spikes to watch over the clan and be wary of anything approaching.[/columns][/right] ----- [b][font=century gothic][size=3]THE PROMENADE[/size][/font][/b] [columns]The lower level of the crater is a place of bustling activity and commerce. Most shops and trade centers are on the lower level, as is the council hall. Services situated here include Momoka's potion shop, Elurra's maproom, Usha and Calahan's shared study, Yorihime and Lola's shop and Ochiba's alchemist laboratory. The Golden Rose is located here, and provides food as well as rooms for visitors. The lauded inter-flight postal system of Rara Avis is located here as well, and tunnels to both the underground chambers and the mines can be accessed.[nextcol][img]https://i.imgur.com/Ifd9Rs2.png[/img][/columns] ----- [right][b][font=century gothic][size=3]THE NESTS[/size][/font][/b] [columns][img]https://i.imgur.com/vh5FQA6.png[/img][nextcol]The residential area of Rara Avis, the upper level can be accessed through flight or sets of carved stairs. Most permanent residents have dens on this level, many of which are connected by winding tunnels. Oceana's art studio is located on this level, as are the two nesting grounds, tended to by Helima, and Ishara's Infirmary. Buru's cave can be accessed from this level, and the exaltation pillar which she guards. The Arcanist's Finger and the guardposts can be entered from this level as well.[/right][/columns] ----- [b][font=century gothic][size=3]THE UNDERCHAMBERS[/size][/font][/b] [columns]Underneath Rara Avis are the Underchambers, a series of large natural caverns connected by dragonmade tunnels. These chambers have been converted into storerooms for the clan hoard and for Rara Avis' treasure. Few ordinary residents even venture down this way, but Runewing's study and den is located here, as well as the private den of her mate, Melpomene. And, although he is well hidden, Elturgard's ritual chamber can be accessed here... if you know where to look.[nextcol][img]https://i.imgur.com/cF3uU9I.png[/img][/columns] ----- [right][b][font=century gothic][size=3]THE MINING DISTRICT[/size][/font][/b] [columns][img]https://i.imgur.com/Z77G4do.png[/img][nextcol]Although not part of Rara Avis proper, the lucrative amethyst and chalcedony mines are attached to the crater by a series of long tunnels. The main mine is housed in one of the Crystalspine spikes, and a system of pulleys, mining carts and workshops collect the gemstones before they are shipped off. The dens of the miners can be found here, along with Bedek's office and den.[/right][/columns] ----- [b][font=century gothic][size=3]THE SPARRING FIELDS[/size][/font][/b] [columns]Located outside of the crater, the sparring fields are a flat plain that can be seen from the guard spikes and accessed from a tunnel. There, a variety of straw dummies as well as archery targets are located, intended for practice in the arts of combat.
