TOPIC | [lore] clan wildergreen

i wanted a place to keep all of my worldbuilding notes together whenever i have the time/inspiration to work on it, so here we go...!

feel free to post/ask questions; i'm always down for an excuse to dig a little deeper into my lore~
posts will be sporadic and will be more descriptions than actual storytelling (for the time being?)

general notes:
comprised of two clans: wildergreen (den) and bramblethorn (lair). those not in the clan frequently/exclusively communicate with dragons in wildergreen, and bramblethorn is nothing more than a rumour to most wildergreen inhabitants.

note: mentions of death/funerals in the medicine & death section!

geography

- deep deep deep in the viridian labyrinth! extremely dense surrounding forest makes it near impossible for other dragons to find their way to the clan. trees are 11+ stories tall, very thick trunks.
- there are other small bodies of water nearby e.g. a pond, a swamp, etc. all of which are tucked away in the forest in tiny nooks where dense roots and trenches in the earth have pooled water
- soil is very soft and fertile! farming is very possible if you can find a place where the roots arent so close to the top

minor locations
- small sunflower field
- swamps/creeks/ponds

relationships

- no type of relationship between two consenting adults is outlawed

- there's a dating stage, where it's all fun and good and getting to know your partner. and then there's a relationship stage where you're building trust and love and perhaps a lifestyle with the other. and then there's a "marriage" stage which is basically the final "step" where both dragons want to fully commit to, wholeheartedly trust, and want to be with one another always

- relationships are very fluid and variable! there are no milestones or "goalposts" to reach before advancing to the next stage. its all very dependent on a gut feeling type of intuition

- there isn't a legal system of marriage so there are no requirements or documents to it, but it is seen as the final "step" in a relationship

^ marriage is a step up in terms of "seriousness" in a relationship; it's achieving the ultimate closeness with your partner. like inseparable, same wavelength, finish-each-others-sentences type of thing. it's definitely much more of an emotional connection rather than something like a status

^ it's sort of a tradition that dragons will give their spouse something very sentimental--generally from their native profession--but doesn't have to be rings something worn/kept on their person at all times. the item is much more focused on the emotion/thought behind it, and doesn't even have to be a physical item! for example, coast, bc hes a cartographer, may go out to find a really lovely hideaway spot to getaway to, or takes his spouse somewhere they've always wanted to go/see

- as far as the marriage celebration goes, it's a big thing!! everyone gets together, dragons usually bring gifts in their professions of choice (though not always specifically made for that occasion), etc. special foods will be made that cater to the couples' preferences/tastes!

^ not all couples like the big shebang! generally the community will have an idea of whether or not two dragons would like all the attention, so they can gauge whether or not to go all out. sometimes there are just smaller celebrations with close friends/family, though other dragons may stop by and bring a small gift of congratulations/nest-warming regardless

- because there are no legalities to "marriage", there are no repercussions (other than emotional and sometimes social) to leaving a marriage

^ spouses do, generally, get roles such as the ability to make decisions when the other is incapacitated or similar scenarios

civ & architecture

- dendritects: specialized architects who maintain and design/construct new bridges/rooms. they use a technique similar to bonsai, slowly training and trimming tree limbs and vines to grow in a specific direction/path.
- homes/"buildings" are made into the trunks of trees in the labyrinth, all connected by bridges ^
- new homes/bridges are often made during an extremely slow, long process to prevent injury to the tree. occasionally magic can be used to speed up the process
- special tools are inserted into the area where a new room will be, allowing the tree to grow up and around the tool which is later removed, forming a solid open space
- some dragons live within the area but not in trees, for example building nests on the side of a tree, beneath the roots, or in nearby swamps/dens/etc

economy

- entirety of wildergreen's economy is based on a bartering system. there is no set guide for "value", and everything is subjective to the buyer/seller
- the clan does have a small cache of "other" currencies that theyve accumulated from traveling merchants, in case of a barter system not being accepted by other merchants
