[ a note from bmo ]
hi! i don't think anyone has ever seen this besides me bc i am just playing, but on the off-chance you are a genuine human reading this, welcome! this story is very silly and unoriginal and is merely a way for me to warm up for other stories I wanna tell :)
that said, i do love these dragons and have spent a lot of time w them over the years i've been playing (since 2014)! as such, the purpose of this thread is to keep the clan's history archived in the most chronological-ish order I can manage.
as you scroll through, the titles (bolded & colorful) will often contain links to individual dragon bios, separate from and additional to the rest of the lore. they may reference the same events or dragons, but each one is a standalone piece, to be read in any order as an anthology.)
update for 2022: before going any further, however, you might be interested to talk to Wiztix, the other clan progenitor, for a moment... as much as Wiz "talks," that is. Conversely, visit Wiztix last for a little twist/revamp I'm working on.
if you did read this and have any feedback, I suppose it's welcome (up to and including very gentle/mild suggestions or prompts, and questions about characters or plotlines are totally fine). just know this isn't really supposed to be my magnum opus. as said, i'm just playing :^) enjoy!
On the Western edge of the strange lands Arcane dragons call home; far along the warm, pink ridge of the mountains that give the region its name; deep below the point of the tallest peak in a well-hidden pocket of fertile land we call the Fangsong, there rests a dainty, crystalline bubble of a cavern wherein a modest clan boasts a rather immodest library. Large enough to rival that of some universities, both in size and in content, the clan keeps records of anything and everything here, from materials they use to teach hatchlings about native flora and fauna to the history of the clan itself.
"Most of our guests come for the history," A young Skydancer is explaining, gesturing around with twiggy limbs, "But we're more than happy to share our academic findings as well, of course." A tabby cat is flitting around the dragon's feet and batting at her feathers, still downy with adolescence. "In fact, we find that to be much more important. I think Sailes is hoping for more academic visits in the future."
"Anyway, whatever questions you have, just ask me!" She continues, her chest fur puffed out proudly. "I may not have been here very long, but I take my work very seriously - anything you want to know, I'm sure I can tell you, or I'll at least know where to look. Since, you know..." You follow her gaze as she shrugs nondescriptly. "It's pretty big."
"Big" is perhaps the second word you would choose to describe this place. The room is cavernous enough to accommodate some of the larger members of the clan comfortably. The ceiling is far enough away to be quite invisible to you on the ground, despite the remarkable amount of natural sunlight being filtered through the semi-transparent crystal of the mountain above, even in the places where the natural stone is still exposed. In other places, the chalcedony has been carved and dyed into elaborate, false "stained glass" windows. They aren't clear like glass, not good enough for seeing the details of what's outside, but as clouds or birds or the other winged beasts of the clan pass over, they cast shadows on the spaces within.
Shelves and reading nooks of all shapes and sizes are carved out of the walls, as well as a number of rocks floating aimlessly throughout the middle of the cavern. Likewise, much of the content of the library itself - books, scrolls, specimens in glass orbs - seems to be floating throughout the middle of the cavern like disorganized space junk. Your first descriptor of choice would probably be "a mess," followed by "a rather large one." It looks a bit like how you'd imagine an adolescent Arcanist's bedroom.
As if your host could read your mind, she takes a few steps forward into the tornado of library debris, and several large tomes and what appear to be simple rocks whoosh forward just in time to catch her feet, like a set of stairs only visible when touched. She ascends lightly and effortlessly to a bookshelf carved from stone that appears to weigh several tons, floating about fifteen feet above your head. The cat follows her, jumping playfully from one chunk of debris to the next (here a book, there a stone, then a dented silver platter, whatever floats her way; but she never misses a step).
The Skydancer regards the shelved books thoughtfully before choosing one and fluttering gracefully back down to your level. "It's not as bad of an organizational system as it looks." You are not reassured.
"So..."
She heaves a small sigh as she hoists an enormous tome to shoulder height.
"Shall we just start from the beginning?"
