"What's happening to me?"
A young dragon stared into a moonlit pool. His scales were lackluster and didn't reflect the moonlight. He smelled of rotten flowers.
For the past two weeks, he'd been getting strange urges to go towards Rotrock Rim. Every night his dream ended with climbing up a tree and wrapping himself in its gnarled embrace to sleep a forever sleep. He was scared to tell anyone about it, even his fellow Wind siblings.
He'd never even been into the Scarred Wasteland, although he sometimes would explore the Wind-Plague border and become entranced by its pulsating, radiating landscape. He considered himself the bravest of the bunch, as none would dare get even that close.
After turning away from the reflective pool, he noticed a trail of scales that had flaked off. He felt weak and must have fallen asleep because he started having the same dream again, only this time it felt stronger than ever...
He was at the border again, and this time, he felt confident in crossing it. The Wandering Contagion lay before him and though the heat felt hot against his talons, he kept going. He felt joy as he breathed in the toxic fumes and passed great boneyards.
As he neared the twisted forest, he scouted a wonderfully grotesque tree to climb. It was the largest of its kind with huge roots and oozing fluorescent sap. He felt strength he hadn't felt in a while return to his body and he wrapped himself against a particularly broad branch and fell into an eternal sleep.
A few days later, the dragon's carcass was unrecognizable. The fungus had done its job well in manipulating the dragon's mind and now celebrated with a feast. Having consumed all the flesh it could manage, it let itself be lifted off the dragon to be distributed on the breeze in search of its next victim.
