CrestHaven: A Story Unraveled
Wandering for days on end, Seacrest kept looking and looking. He only ate the bare minimum of food required for he had promised himself to find it. The perfect little spot to call his lair. It had taken him many days, but he found an alcove perfect for himself. He made it his new home. He spent his days eating and enjoying his quiet life when all of a sudden, he spotted another dragon, of a different breed no less. A Guardian dragon with a little frog resting comfortably on his back. Seacrest smiled gently and greeted the young dragon.
“What a nice hat you have there,” He told the Guardian dragon.
“The Annoying Twisty Thing gave it to me when I was a hatchling,” The Guardian responded.
“Who is your small friend there?” Seacrest inquired.
“Umbrige. He’s what I protect,” The young dragon sounded very proud over this accomplishment.
Ah, The frog must be what became of his Search. Seacreast thought as he looked out onto the sky. The sun was setting and The Shifting Expanse was no place for any breed of dragon at night.
“You’ve done a very fine job protecting him it seems. Would you like to spend the night?” Seacrest moved aside to reveal the rest of his lair.
“Can we?” The Guardian asked, a little suspicious.
“Of course, you smell like a new friendship.”

The Guardian dragon stayed and the two took in dragon after dragon, even from other flights for Seacrest’s home became known as a place to stop for weary travelers. They were more than welcome to stay as long as they liked. Some have come and gone. Others have gone to serve Stormcatcher, but the rest, the rest decided to make their home with Seacrest.

So welcome, traveler, welcome to what has become to be known as CrestHaven, Stay awhile, talk to some of the clan’s dragons to get a feel for what is that gets done here.

Seacrest is recognized as the leader of CrestHaven for his kindness and compassion towards all who live and visit here. He often says that is not just him that guides the clan, but others as well so he should not receive such kind compliments. Belnan is a Seer and thus is often come to for advice and guidance. He is very often seen with Seacrest as the two are always whispering about ways to further protect the clan from harm. Sauron, the Records Keeper, has every last detail about every possible thing that has happened within the clan and to the dragons. She doesn't really bother with keeping records of dragons who have left, so many older records have been lost or damaged as a result. But generally, if there's a question, she has the answer. Damocles merely sits on the council to represent the Night Warriors. He is far friendlier when it comes to his cousins and thus is able to speak easier with the other members of the clan. When there is a dispute between the Night Warriors and the rest of the clan, it is Damocles that often steps in to subdue the situation. Trainers Masterson serves as the head trainer and is responsible for dividing the duties of each trainer and apprentice equally. With so much to do and so little time, he's always found with a schedule in hand, making last minute edits and such. Hatter though he is a co-founder of CrestHaven, prefers battling it out and securing resources for his clan. At first he simply scavenged and dug for ingredients but through Masterson's encouragement, Hatter became a fine master trainer. Sentinel had been a part of Masterson's and Hatter's team and been the last one to gain the rank of Master Trainer. She more than makes up for her slowness by training interns for Bossdad at unparallel speeds (at least compared to Masterson and Hatter). Now she rarely fights alongside the two anymore. Starcatcher is still a trainer apprentice. He'd rather follow Regent around than take his training seriously. He is closing in fast, though not as fast as Masterson would like, to becoming a Master Trainer and cannot wait to go explore the Golem Workshop with his teammates Barrubus and Niaka. Barrubus honestly couldn't care less about becoming a trainer. His primary focus is to find a hunt that'll satisfy him for a lifetime and believes that can be found within the Golem Workshop. Though he hesitated to join the GW team when he discovered Starcatcher would be leading it, he ultimately decided that such a nuisance could be tolerated for his greater purpose. Niaka has been known to be cryptic and very fond her gardens. So when she volunteered to be the healer for Barrubus and Starcatcher, everyone had been stunned, save for Starcatcher who may have had something to do with it. She's a Master Trainer now as she did not like being away from her gardens for long and has no issue waiting on the other two to finishing their training. Theotass *Th-a-o-tass* is a cold hearted mercenary that only came to the clan to fill his lair with treasure. He prefers to wear armor and apparel that signifies his achievements as a fighter/warrior/merc for hire and loves his profession. Fighting in the Ruins will keep him busy and make him rich, the only real things he cares about. Warriors Night Warriors Thesus, being a Night Warrior, prefers to keep his distance from the clan while also serving as a protective force for all to feel safe under. He's been known to creep along in the shadows at twilight, when the moon and the sun share the same sky, to make sure all is well. Aria is swift and skilled with the bow, just like her big cousin Thesus. While the coatl may be the reason she had been brought to CrestHaven, she stays because of all the stories she get to hear from the dragons passing through. She's less dark and mysterious than her Thesus, but still prefers the thrill of the fight at night than during the day. Killian had been forcibly dragged to CrestHaven after his cousins, Theseus and Aria, found him. Before his now imprisioned life, he had been a free spirit that plundered as he pleased. Now, the nocturne ducks and hides from his family and trainers in an attempt to find this freedom once more. Taz is better described as a 'Wild Warrior' rather than Night Warrior. He had been found in the Rainsong Jungle by Muneca and dumped to Theseus to deal with. After a little digging, it was discovered that Taz is indeed descended from their bloodline and officially their problem. So the first thing Theseus did was assign Killian as his guardian. Magnus prefers to be alone. He studies hard to become a strong warrior for his mother, but does seldom else. The purpose, instilled by the first Night Warrior of CrestHaven Theseus, of the warriors is to protect the clan. Something that Magnus does minimally. His only interest is to pass on his genes to the next generation so he doesn't have to worry as much about all this. CrestHaven Warriors Apollo talks more than he fights, but if he must use his talons instead of words, he will. Often boasting about being descended from great warriors, he says that it's only natural he takes the path of one as well. Should any of his children decide to stay with the clan, Apollo expects them to follow in his footsteps. Practitioners of Magic Harlequin...let's just say that if he ever breeds, it has been unanimously decided that the clan is going to up and move out of the Shifting Expanse. Imp has been tied into the magical veins as any fae would be since he was a hatchling. He's always having conversations with something that isn't there. Or perhaps something that cannot be seen by the other dragons. Every once in a while, he'll be invited to join the council in one of their weekly meetings. As to why, not even those tuned into the gossip networks know. Rio as dedicated his life to dark magic, specifically necromancy. He's always seeking to further his powers over the dead and is rumored to have an undead army at his disposal. Now that he's aware his dark powers are hereditary thanks to his daughter Celica, he is on the lookout for someone that can provide him with offspring of unimaginable power. Healers Quentin has a very calm nature. Though he is of the Light flight, he feels very at home amongst all these lightning dragons. He became a healer as he wished to help the clan prosper as a momentary stop for wayward dragons and figured having a healer on call would be the best bet. Lylena is Quentin's daughter. Unlike her father, this imperial has a little pep in her step and is very ambitious to become a healer just like her father. Though she has only just started her apprenticeship, she believes she could take over her father's position. Her father on the other hand, believes otherwise. Scientists/Alchemists Rabble, referred to as an Alchemical Scientist, he dabbles in both Alchemy and science, always working to bring the two together, generally resulting in a beautiful explosion. He created his assistants on a whim and very often has to drag them out of their labs in order for them to actually assist him for all of five minutes. Equalise and Overflow are Rabble's experiments/assistants. They mostly just do what Alchemical Spills do best and blow stuff up in the lab space they've been granted. The both of them are all over the place and only aide their creator when it happen to suits their mood. Serena came to the Shifting Expanse to combine magic and science in perfect harmony. She'll get very excited if you show an interest in her research or very flustered when you disregard it. In a huff, she'll explain all the different concepts and theories she's come up with and won't stop until you agree with her. She's often found working with Rabble on some odd invention or another to improve the lifestyle within CrestHaven. Eutechios or simply called Techio, is a proud Stormdancer. His love of storms has turned him something of a geek and he plans on not only being able to predict when a storm is going to form, but to be able to track them. Being able to do so will make the job of a Stormdancer that much easier and give them more time to decide who is truly the best shaper of the storms. Messengers Raimi takes pride in her position. As the clan is slowly growing, lairs are becoming further away from each other; so when a message needs to be sent, Raimi is the mirror to call upon. Leave whatever it is outside your lair at set times throughout the day and she'll have it delivered within minutes. She also loves to talk so be careful. A simple greeting could turn into her gushing over her son Muneca or granddaughter Celica. Scavenger Wendigo only stays in the clan because it is where his mate, Raimi, is. If he had it his way, the two would continue his endless journey throughout Sornieth. But no. Raimi loves CrestHaven so it is here he stays. The imperial only became a scavenger to prove that he wasn't some freeloader within the clan. He goes out everyday to gather items for the clan to use or store away. Sometimes he'll end up being gone the whole day. Celica became a scavenger as she wanted to benefit the clan in someway without the use her dark magical abilities. She figured that this was the safest way to do so. She'll often keep an eye out for materials for her great uncle Rabble to use in his alchemy. Her familiar has come in handy on more than one occasion in finding otherwise rare or valuable items. Dust Rescuers Muneca loves being a Dust Rescuer. He loves being able to go out and explore the Shifting Expanse. Helping lost and confused dragons back to his clan is simply a bonus to that. With his special mirror eyes, he's able to detect heat signatures of dragons and find them far more easily than other dragons would. Financial Manger Lightsoul keeps track of the spending of the clan and allots a budget to each dragon should they require a little extra spending treasure for something that caught their eye in the marketplace. She manages to the funds Rabble goes through in creating his alchemy projects, decides how much each item they sell on the market will cost, and goes to collect their profits several times during the day. Needless to say, she's put in a request for other employees. Swan is the result of Lightsoul's request for more employees. Her goal for staying with the clan is to save up enough treasure to head out to sea and live the life she had always dreamed of. Being able to tease Killian about his predicament doesn't hurt much either. Den Mother Aerope hadn't planned on becoming in charge of the hatchlings. It just sort of happened. Playing with the young ones and teaching them about the history of the clan and their reigning deity had been a pleasure she had done every so often. But every so often turned into every few days, then every other day, and then, well, everyone just came to acknowledge her as the caretaker of the hatchlings. Storyteller Regent loves nothing more than going out, finding an adventure, then coming home to tell the hatchlings and any dragon that showed up that day his latest grand achievements. Yes, he may add a little flair here and there when the story starts to get a little dull, but every single story is roughly 80% accurate. After all, a story is only as good as the way you tell it. Clan Positions

Council

Trainers

Masterson serves as the head trainer and is responsible for dividing the duties of each trainer and apprentice equally.

Warriors
Night Warriors

Thesus, being a Night Warrior, prefers to keep his distance from the clan while also serving as a protective force for all to feel safe under.

CrestHaven Warriors

Apollo talks more than he fights, but if he must use his talons instead of words, he will. Often boasting about being descended from great warriors, he says that it's only natural he takes the path of one as well. Should any of his children decide to stay with the clan, Apollo expects them to follow in his footsteps.

Practitioners of Magic

Harlequin...let's just say that if he ever breeds, it has been unanimously decided that the clan is going to up and move out of the Shifting Expanse.

Healers

Quentin has a very calm nature.

Scientists/Alchemists

Rabble, referred to as an Alchemical Scientist, he dabbles in both Alchemy and science, always working to bring the two together, generally resulting in a beautiful explosion.

Messengers

Raimi takes pride in her position.

Scavenger

Wendigo only stays in the clan because it is where his mate, Raimi, is.

Dust Rescuers

Muneca loves being a Dust Rescuer. He loves being able to go out and explore the Shifting Expanse. Helping lost and confused dragons back to his clan is simply a bonus to that. With his special mirror eyes, he's able to detect heat signatures of dragons and find them far more easily than other dragons would.

Financial Manger

Lightsoul keeps track of the spending of the clan and allots a budget to each dragon should they require a little extra spending treasure for something that caught their eye in the marketplace.

Den Mother

Aerope hadn't planned on becoming in charge of the hatchlings. It just sort of happened. Playing with the young ones and teaching them about the history of the clan and their reigning deity had been a pleasure she had done every so often. But every so often turned into every few days, then every other day, and then, well, everyone just came to acknowledge her as the caretaker of the hatchlings.

Storyteller

Regent loves nothing more than going out, finding an adventure, then coming home to tell the hatchlings and any dragon that showed up that day his latest grand achievements. Yes, he may add a little flair here and there when the story starts to get a little dull, but every single story is roughly 80% accurate. After all, a story is only as good as the way you tell it.

Their Home

CrestHaven lies near the coast in the Lightning Farms, not far from the Sunbeam Ruins. Two mesas protect its east and west borders, making the north and south entrances the only way to access the clan. It's a mismatch of all sorts which is evident from first glance. Alongside the Northern entrance, Niaka has set up a garden that provides plants and insects as well as much needed herbs for the healers. She set up her lair above it as to watch over her precious flowers.

From there, one is able to see very clearly what sort of dragons reside within the clan. Each and every lair of the permanent residents is uniquely decorated to match both themselves and their home flight. For example, Masterson who hails from the Sunbeam Ruins, has stone white pillars in front of his lair's entrance. Painted on them are beasts from the Kelp Beds, where he and Hatter train dragons for the Stormcatcher. Each and every lair within CrestHaven has its own little personality to it.

The lairs are scattered throughout. Some line the mesas' walls while others were built with materials found in the Shifting Expanse and neighboring flights. Hatter's, the co-founder and a trainer, simply piled a large amount of rocks together, melded them into one giant stone, then dug into it, creating a crevice and small ditch within and calls that home.

The nesting grounds are located in what appears to be a rather vulnerable area, right in the middle of the clan with nothing protecting them, but looks can be deceiving. The grounds reside in a crater in the ground that gives hatchlings plenty of room to run around and play in. Around the edge of this crater are faded runes that enchant the outer ring to first notify the Den Mother, Aerope of any possible intruders and then create a barrier around the nest. This had first been implemented by a few passing through mages, but was strengthened by Imp.

CrestHaven's Hoard is located within in the west mesa, deep inside where very few know of it. The cool air of the cave its in keeps it contents in tact and pristine. Part of the clan's water supply is stored in here for when the dragon made lakes on top the two mesas are being maintained.

The lakes had been created by Imp, but are voluntarily looked after by Swan. They're replenished by the occasional rainfall, and the Sunbeams Ruins river with a reverse waterfall leading the clear water up and into the lakes. Every so often, Swan needs to check the quality of the water to make sure there's no one trying to harm the dragons who drink from it.

Flying to the top of the mesa each time a dragon needs a drink of water gets tiring so Rabble derived a delivery system that will supply each dragon's lair with water from the lakes continuously. All he needed was about a thousand feet of pipes and bamboo to make it work. Now each lair receives cool water directly to it. The other two ways to receive water is from the cactus farms cared for by Niaka which lay out east or the wells that were dug to make contact with an underground river Regent discovered on one of his adventures.

Within the east mesa, the Night Warriors of the clan have called this their home. It had started with Theseus then with Aria, and Killian. Soon, other Night Warriors to be started to arrive at the clan so what had started out as rather large lair for three turned into a complicated cave system for Night Warriors. Theseus calls the Homestead. They only take up the top hundred feet of the mesa as that's all Theseus predicts they will need.
Serena's "Improvements"

Since arriving in CrestHaven, the Magical Scientist Serena has declared that more technology was needed as "How can this possibly be a noteworthy Lightning clan if it isn't half machinery?" as quoted by many of the dragons who have had to listen to her drone on about the state of affairs. So with a blessing from SeaCrest, Serena has been known to make unexpected changes to CrestHaven's lifestyle.

The Lifts
One of the first things she accomplished. She had and her lab partner Rabble installed four lifts so dragons wouldn't to use their wings every time to go up the mesa. There have been a few glitches since the installation such as there's no speed adjustment so dragons generally get hurled up with their lairs at close to 50 mph. Also, the brakes have been known to ah, give out, so the lift just keeps going up and up until it crashes into the last stop and sends a very startled dragon soaring through the air.

Security System
This one is still in its developmental stages, but she went ahead and attached it to her own lair for testing. The idea is for loud alarms to go off the moment an uninvited guest enters one's lair. The alarms then trigger a spell that ensnares the poor soul in Strangler Vines. It's a shame that the system can't tell friend from foe yet.

The young tundra was hot, tired, and just wanted to crawl back into his lair to escape the cruel dry heat of the Shifting Expanse. But that would mean missing out on his favorite thing, watching the skies change. Every evening, before he went off to bed, the tundra Seacrest would lay outside his lair and watch as the sun set over Sornieth, allowing the moon to take its place for the night. The stars would come out to play and dance across the black canvas of the night sky. This was without a doubt, his favorite time of day.

As Seacrest stretched out and made himself comfortable, he saw an emerging, large figure in the last rays of sunlight. Unsure of what to do, the tundra decided to stay perfectly still and wait to see what was coming his way. As the minutes passed, the figure finally revealed itself to be a guardian dragon. The guardian appeared to be as equally alarmed by Seacrest’s presence and seemed to be curling himself around something that clung to his side. After a brief look over, Seacrest decided to make the first move.

“Hello there, what brings you to my lair?” the tundra asked with warmth. When the guardian didn’t respond, he tried once more. “That’s a lovely hat you have.” The guardian dragon wore a shabby top hat with a scarf to match. Feathers hung off his wings. At the mention of the hat, the dragon perked up a bit.

“The Annoying Twisty Thing gave it me,” he replied.

“And that frog on your back? Who’s your small friend there?” Seacrest gestured to the little creature that had moved onto the guardian’s back. At this, the dragon became instantly protective, but still answered the question nonetheless.

“His name is Umbrige. He’s what I protect,” the dragon answered.

Ah, the frog must be what came of his search,
Seacrest realized. No wonder the dragon was so on guard. He looked up to the skies to see that the first of the stars had come out to play and came to a decision. The Shifting Expanse was no place for any breed of dragon at night.

“Would you and Umbrige care to stay with me tonight? I have plenty of food and water,” Seacrest moved aside to reveal his lair.

“Can we?” the guardian, still wary of the tundra, stepped a half step closer.

“But of course, you smell like a new friendship.” Seacrest led the two inside. “What is your name might I ask?”

“Hatter,” he replied.

A few years later…

Seacrest laid out in front of his lair, as he always did before the sun set and the moon came out. It was a tradition he has long loved and look forward too. It used to be to watch the skies change, but now, it served a different purpose. It was at this time of day that the dragons of his clan were at their busiest, rushing to get back to the lair or planning some get together with friends. At this time, every day, Muneca would come racing past him to go deliver Belnan news of what he did today. Despite the dust cloud that followed the eager mirror, Seacrest always enjoyed it. Parents would take one last look at their nests before flying off to sleep for the night, while Aerope, the Den Mother, would reinforce the magic around the Nesting Grounds as she always did before she herself set off for her and Apollo’s lair.

Yes, his nightly routine has greatly shifted since all those nights ago when he offered Hatter a place to rest for the night. Just a few hundred yards away was Hatter’s stone hut, the same as it had been the day Hatter had built it. In the beginning, Hatter had always been the one more disappointed when a dragon didn’t stay. But that was a given as Seacrest didn’t want to force a dragon to settle when they did not want to. He just wished for a place for weary travelers to come and rest their wings before continuing their journey. Yes, some have stayed and settled, but not for very long. A few months at the most really before they made the decision that it was time to find another home. Plenty of hatchlings have been born between his two mesas, but hardly any stayed.

Thinking back, the aging tundra would have never guessed his gesture would lead to something to grand and wonderful. He had never once thought about being clan leader and yet here he was, responsible for all these young dragons and their livelihood. The thought both terrifying and thrilling made Seacrest even happier about what laid before him.

“Seacrest,” Belnan, the clan’s Seer, came over to him.

“Come, sit and enjoy the sun down,” Seacrest moved over so his friend could have a good view.

“I am afraid it is not that kind of visit,” Belnan stepped aside to reveal Muneca. Seacrest got to his feet in a moment’s notice when he saw the mirror’s injuries. Yes, being out in the Shifting Expanse was a hazardous job, but it would not yield to the scraps and cuts Muneca bore on him now.

“What happened?” Seacrest asked.

“Beast Clans. And they’re on their way here,” Muneca let out. “I-I found them while looking for a lost dragon. They had gotten to him first…Seacrest, they’re centaurs.”

“Go to Quentin and Lylena for treatment. Belnan, come with me. We need to prepare for the attack,” Seacrest walked past the two and in the direction of the training grounds. Belnan’s storm seeker flew overhead, guiding the blind tundra on where to go. When the two arrived, Masterson and Hatter were just returning with a trainee from the Kelp Beds.

“Keep on your toes, just because we’re there doesn’t mean everything is going to be alright,” Masterson scolded the young wildclaw.

“I’m sorry sir,” the wildclaw, Starcatcher, bowed his head.

“You’re dismissed. Be here bright and early tomorrow,” Masterson flicked his tail, a signal that the conversation was over. As Starcatcher sped away, the imperial turned his attention to the two tundras. “And?”

“Beast Clans are coming for us,” Seacrest looked up to meet Masterson’s eyes. “Start evacuating the young dragons into the west mesa, where the hoard is.” The casual, lazy tone Seacrest held made the iridescent imperial skeptical about whether this was serious or not. There had been talk of doing a few drills for situations such as this.

“Masterson, I am quite serious. Muneca is currently in the med hut receiving care for the wounds he received fleeing from these beasts.” Seascreat urged the imperial. “Have Sentinel guard the southern entrances and Hatter the northern. The trainees are to guard the Nesting Grounds.”

“…As you wish Seacrest,” Masterson obeyed. The skepticism still held in his voice, but it was not his place to object to his leader’s orders.
“What of you Seacrest?” Belnan asked.

“I will do what I can with what little magic I possess to hold them off. Make sure all get to safety before then.” Seacrest unfurled his wings and gave them a few hard beats before he took off. According to Belnan, they only had mere hours before the centaurs descended upon the clan, and it was something Seacrest was determined to stop.

@demonslayr62 Oooh this thread looks great! You've done awesome outlining who all your permas are and I'm excited to see your lore kicking off with the beginning of a major event! I'm having fun laying all mine out from the beginning, but there is something to be said for getting to the good stuff. ;) And the centaur attack sounds like the event that brought Thesus to the clan, so I'm excited to see him potentially showing up soon!

@ZentihNadir
I'm glad you like it! I figured giving a brief description of each perma would make everything easier. Especially for me lol. I do plan on doing flashback chapters as to the first days of CrestHaven at some point, probably when the thread as a bit more content to it.

And yep you got it right! These are the very same beast clan attacks that bring Theseus to the clan :) I tried writing the first entry with what's going on in present time but since the Night Warriors of my clan have so much lore tied to them, it wouldn't be right to just gloss over all of it. So back tracking slightly to include it all.

OH! So guess what? When I first adopted Theseus, I had spelled his name wrong. Instead of Thesus, the name of the greek hero is actually Theseus. Literally one letter off but it was just bothering me way too much lol. I found that out when I was looking up how to spell Damocles's name and get a more detail telling of the myth. So I may or may not (I totally did) bought and used a renaming scroll to fix it. I just couldn't deal haha.
