Clan Abyss was first established when the dragon Tautou sank to the bottom of The Sea of a Thousand Currents. It was there on the seafloor where he was kept company by Entendu, an oracle generated by the Tidelord, who had become quite fond of Tautou. With the two of them always together, the deep sea wasn't so empty and black, and slowly they carved out a home for Clan Abyss in the darkest of caves beneath the sea.
The clan has since grown in this unusual underwater habitat, banded together by other aquatic water dragons who have made a home in one another in order to escape the ever impending loneliness and isolation of the Tidelord's watery expanse. Though many of the original residents still prefer to thrive in the twilight of the deep, Clan Abyss has grown to the point where they've branched out in all areas of the Sea, including many non-water dragons into their folds as well.
The clan, as it exists now, is best identified by other clans as a small fishing village.

All denizens of Clan Abyss must contribute to the clan in some way. Various other dragons in the lair may also come from a specific trade or craft, generally categorized as artisan dragons, or, above all things, have pursued and dedicated their lives to knowledge. Those that do not fit into any of these categories mentioned above are usually given a title best suited to their abilities in order to help out.

These dragons have chosen the path of physical combat and are organized into parties of three as they venture throughout the Sea and surrounding regions. Their duties are to collect materials, treasure, and other such goods, as well as fight opposing clans and creatures of Sornieth.
The parties are carefully selected by the head of the Abyssal Warriors, a terrifying Guardian known as Mother Anglerfish. She composes such parties that will reflect on each dragon's strength and weakness in order to even out the party's particular skill set. The role of the Abyssal Warrior is essential, as travelling outside of the Tidelord's territory is dangerous and only a trained dragon can venture so far beyond the sea.

The life of a Gladiator can be deadly... if one is not strong enough, defeat can lead to permanent disability- or even death. Such violent competitions between clans usually aim to kill, and most rules do not apply to these death matches. However, successful Gladiators often bring fame to their name and honor to their clan.

Although not all of these dragons are specifically classified as an oracle by first nature (as they may not even deal with prophecy at all), any dragon that practices such divination, healing, and Water magics may fall under this category. Many dragons are seers, prophets, or even healers of some sort. Their practices are honored and held up to fantastical standards- as such, the Deepsea Oracles are said to hold some of the strongest Water mages of this time.
The Deepsea Oracles are not fighters by first nature, but even the most docile of healers can give you a run for your treasure when faced with combat. Intense Pressure | Lack of Sunlight | Frigid Temperatures
The darkness of the Leviathan Trench is habitat to these unusual dragons of the deep. This is the deepest part of Sornieth. The underwater pressure is so immense here that dragons not accustomed to the deepsea cannot be exposed to it for long.
There is little to no sunlight that reaches this portion of the sea. This causes temperatures to stay consistently freezing, except for a small area on the seabed that borders the Ashfall Waste, where hydrothermal vents heat the water. This marine habitat is known to the clan as the black smokers, and is one of the only places in the deepsea that supports life here.
Food and oxygen are extremely scarce. Organic matter sinking from the Fishspine Reef showers into the trench and provides nutrients for the fish and other creatures that live here, however, this marine snow does not supply enough resources for larger species of dragons. It is crucial to travel into other regions of the Sea of a Thousand Currents in order for the clan to exist in this environment.

The lair of Clan Abyss is an abyssal cave that was originally carved into the cliff faces of the trench by the Founders. It offers access to the entire valley of the Leviathan Trench as well as the seabed itself for those that dare venture to the bottom. The lair has since been expanded to make home for the many denizens as they come and go, and even small pockets of air can be found in some parts of the cave for the non-Water dragons, if they so choose to reside here. [nextcol]Demersal Shoal
Somewhere between the Trench and the Reef lies the Demersal Shoal. Home to the Deepsea Oracles, a beautiful underwater ecosystem that inspires the many who set eyes upon it. There is deep-rooted magic here, a quiet sway of power in the water, which is perfect for those who submerge themselves in the art of divination and prophecy.[/columns]
[columns][nextcol]The Laminaria Forest
An endless maze of kelp at the edge of the Fishspine Reef, located closer to the coastline than the coral reef itself. This is a great place to forage or hunt for food, and also provides protection for young or adolescent dragons that haven't yet made their journey to the Surface. It is also the location of the clan's community garden, which is carefully tended to by Scylla. Home to the foragers and the Society of Sea Anemones.[/columns]

Built by the clan, this small stretch of inter-connected piers can be found just off of the Bigfin Boardwalk. For many, the Seaport is the first true glimpse of the clan, and many visitors use this as a passageway for safe escort into the deeps. The docks themselves are an area of commerce, where the fishing industry really comes alive. It is fiercely defended by an infamous pirate crew known as the Seacoast. Home to the fishers and other such gatherers of the clan.[/columns]
[columns][nextcol]Ridgeway Beacon
The most dangerous part of the coastline lies an artificial strip of land that reaches about a half-mile out into the sea. Large chunks of limestone and granite have been secured together underwater to form the walkway, and at the end of this dragon-made trail sits an eerie and imposing lighthouse: the Ridgeway Beacon. The water here is constantly churning with a powerful undertow. Tidewalker is the current lighthouse keeper. It is also home to the Deepwater Warriors, who come here to train upon the narrow, slippery rocks.[/columns]

A general term used by deepwater dragons for the shallowest areas of the Thousand Currents, this entails all areas of the open sea, beginning just off the coast of the Flats but above the Fishspine Reef. Nearly all life in the sea exists here. It is the uppermost layer of the sea, and therefore has the most exposure to the sun. [/columns]
[columns][nextcol]The Sandbar

«| Clan Territory |»
The Clan Lair The lair of Clan Abyss is an abyssal cave that was originally carved into the cliff faces of the trench by the Founders.
Demersal Shoal Somewhere between the Trench and the Reef lies the Demersal Shoal. Home to the Deepsea Oracles, a beautiful underwater ecosystem that inspires the many who set eyes upon it. There is deep-rooted magic here, a quiet sway of power in the water, which is perfect for those who submerge themselves in the art of divination and prophecy.
The Laminaria Forest An endless maze of kelp at the edge of the Fishspine Reef, located closer to the coastline than the coral reef itself. This is a great place to forage or hunt for food, and also provides protection for young or adolescent dragons that haven't yet made their journey to the Surface. It is also the location of the clan's community garden, which is carefully tended to by Scylla. Home to the foragers and the Society of Sea Anemones.
The Seaport Built by the clan, this small stretch of inter-connected piers can be found just off of the Bigfin Boardwalk. For many, the Seaport is the first true glimpse of the clan, and many visitors use this as a passageway for safe escort into the deeps. The docks themselves are an area of commerce, where the fishing industry really comes alive. It is fiercely defended by an infamous pirate crew known as the Seacoast. Home to the fishers and other such gatherers of the clan.
Ridgeway Beacon The most dangerous part of the coastline lies an artificial strip of land that reaches about a half-mile out into the sea. It is also home to the Deepwater Warriors, who come here to train upon the narrow, slippery rocks.
The Cemetery The resting grounds of Abyss & Umbra reside just along the river delta of the Driftwood Drag, creating the boundary between the territories of each clan.
«| Other Notable Locations |»
The Surface Waters A general term used by deepwater dragons for the shallowest areas of the Thousand Currents, this entails all areas of the open sea, beginning just off the coast of the Flats but above the Fishspine Reef. Nearly all life in the sea exists here. It is the uppermost layer of the sea, and therefore has the most exposure to the sun.
The Sandbar Located in the Surface Waters, the sandbar itself is an area of commerce. Many water clans gather here to sell or barter their wares to each other. Clans from other elements are not abundant in this procession, but not entirely unheard of, either, as the exact location of the sandbar is shrouded in secrecy. The undertow is strongest just outside of the bank, where younger and elder dragons are at risk of being swept away.
The Bigfin Boardwalk Simply just referred to as the boardwalk, this large, wooden pier wraps around the beach and spans miles along the coastline. This popular tourist destination is lined with businesses and other small ventures, allowing outsiders to explore the Sea in a safe manor. Home to many of the clan's merchants and artisans.
The Siren's Shipwreck A graveyard of sunken ships lies rusted and forgotten- a reminder that was left from the Second Age. These large columns of corroded metal have formed their own reef of sorts. It is said that this graveyard is the keeper of drowned souls. These grounds are abundant with food and sunken treasures, a prime location for the hunters and scavengers of the clan.
The Black Smokers The eternal brawl between the Tidelord and the Flamecaller has shaped the land between the two regions. Hydrothermal vents heat the water where the tectonic plates of Sornieth are most active, the underwater border between the Thousand Current Sea and the Ashfall Waste. These fissures in the planet's surface are a hotspot for all kinds of life, and a perfect hunting ground for the clan.
The Seabed Very few dragons can traverse the seafloor of the Thousand Current Sea, also known as the Deeprealm. Those who do not know their way easily become lost, and some dragons may never return from seabed expeditions. Much of these dark waters are still unexplored, and it is not yet for certain what ancient leviathans still roam about. This is also the known location of Ran the Drowned Spirits.

Most dragons in the clan are aquatic by nature, alien monsters forced to adapt to the harsh, light-less environment of the trench. The extremities of their domain have turned them into the very leviathans that they compete with. For example, their bodies have been drastically warped to survive the high pressure, making their organs and bones more flexible to pressure change. A majority of the hatchlings are blind, as dragons born to these dark depths will never see any natural light and have learned to adapt where eyesight may not be useful. Those hatchlings that aren't blind tend to have extremely large, sensitive eyes that are fit to seek out bioluminescent light.
The easier it is for a dragon to blend in, the better chance of survival they have against the leviathans that reside here. Many dragons have dark scales and fur that camouflage their form in the deepsea. Lipid-rich, blubber skin is also a common trait among these dragons; it is an excellent way to store energy and insulate their body from the cold. Alternatively, other dragons may have jelly-like flesh similar to the squid, malleable to the currents and more flexible to high pressure.
Each abyssal dragon adapts to the Leviathan Trench in their own way, although almost all of them are capable of some form of bioluminescence, usually through photophores on their hide or wings. The true purpose of this evolutionary trait is a combination of many things, but most importantly, it's used to communicate with each other in the darkness of the Tidelord's domain. Bioluminescent features are also used to stun prey or mesmerize other predators in the gloom.
Every night, these deepsea dragons partake in a migration to the water's surface, where they stretch their wings in the starry sky before they must return to the ocean by daybreak. Dragons long accustomed to the trench cannot live very long outside of the pressure they are normally exposed to, so it is important that hatchlings and younger dragons that decide to leave the clan must do so before adulthood, lest they will not survive on the surface.

These eyes, though scarce as they are, can be achieved by master Deepsea Oracles. It is a physical manifestation that comes about when a powerful oracle learns to harmonize with the Thousand Current Sea, a spiritual connection with the universe that takes place only when the dragon becomes in-tune with their Self and the various elements of Sornieth. The oracle is able to harmonize with the Sea, as the Water element is part of their very own nature.
The spiraling water of primal eyes directly correlates to the emotions of the dragon. A calm or idle dragon may exhibit a smooth current. Happiness or excitement is a rippling current or splashing waves. Sadness is full or sea foam and froth, and when angered, the spiral churns like a raging hurricane.[/columns]

The fishing business has significantly gone up in profit since the Bounty of the Elements. Though some of the clan fishers gather seafood purely for the clan's own food stores, many more have become commercial fishers, which is always a surefire way to make a living.
