Within the walls and the surrounding areas was a peaceful union of breeds and Flights, headed by the young king Mumbai, son of the founders, gift of the Arcanist, and his advisers. The clan was quite friendly and loved making allies, but if they believed another dragon or clan had wronged them, they were quick to turn sour and even become violent. Dragons of Starsea were allowed to flourish however they would like: as artists, scientists, priests, officials, and anything in between or beyond. The clan had quite the history, having faced an Emperor attack, but prefered looking boldly into the future over fixating on the past. Magic was a way of life there, and everyone knew that there is far more to existence than can be seen. That was the past. Varanasi, one of the founders, was brought into the world as pure magical energy that slowly took the form of a Fae dragon. Xerxes, her mate and co-founder, was the same. The two journeyed alone through the Starfall Isles until eventually meeting at the west coast. It was sunset when they got there, and although it wasn't late enough for stars to appear in the sky, stars seemed to reflect in the ocean. When they realized they were seeing the same thing, they took it as a sign that they were meant to be together, and eventually became extremely close. What they intended to be a family eventually grew into a wildly diverse clan.[/size][/font] [b][size=5][font=abyssinica sil]Sagara, Cherry, and the Golden Age[/b][/size][/font] [img]http://flightrising.com/images/cms/battle_items/687.png[/img] [size=3][font=abyssinica sil]Not long after the clan was created, Varanasi and Xerxes decided to devote themselves to the Arcanist, leaving the clan in the paws of Sagara and Cherry, two Coatl. However, the longer the new leaders ruled, the less the clan liked them. Eventually, Sagara's daughter Rhianna overtook him and became the new leader. She and her mate, Isolde (as well as a rotating cast of tertiary leaders) ruled the clan for ages in what was called the Golden Age. During this time, the clan's economy prospered, and knowledge was vast and freely available to all. As well, the clan even took a brief vacation to the Water Flight in order to understand more about the world. The clan's population dropped severely; many dragons either died or left before they could contract the virus. In the end, the only survivors were the warriors Saturn and Frostbyte. Left standing in the ruins of the home they'd devoted themselves to, Saturn and Frostbyte were found by Poiz and Umber, two mysterious purple Nocturnes, who decided to help them. At this time, Varanasi and Xerxes returned from their stay with their deity, and the six instantly began working on rebuilding.[/font][/size] [b][size=5][font=abyssinica sil]The Meteor, the Divinities, & Alpha and Omega[/font][/b][/size] [img]http://flightrising.com/images/cms/trinket/1079.png[/img] [size=3][font=abyssinica sil]The six dragons found the clan a new home on a meteor they hijacked above Focal Point. They dug a complex tunnel system within the rock and watched as the clan regrew. One secret well-kept was that of the Divine Prophecy - a missive found within the meteor foretelling that demigod dragons would appear to save the clan from certain doom. The prophecy was kept very quiet and the dragons, referred to as Divinities, were discovered one by one. Eventually, everything came to a head when the demideities of Lightning, Wind and Water were discovered to be hiding a secret: that they'd found Alpha and Omega, (in)famous Emperors, deep beneath the sea. A few months passed before the Emperors finally rose from the ocean, void of true consciousness and thought, and attacked the clan. It was only with the combined power of the Divinities (and the leaders, Varanasi and Xerxes, as well as a bit of magic from the rest of the clan, that the two were destroyed. The meteor suffered heavy damage, and many dragons died or went missing. The leaders, due to the magical imbalance, reverted into their original forms of pure energy. It was deemed that the meteor would be abandoned and a new home found elsewhere. Alpha and Omega's one living egg was brought to Starsea and secretly raised within the castle. He appointed advisers to guide him through leadership, and led the clan to the rocky towers of the Focal Point, settling them on the highest point. There, a castle made of local pink crystal was built. The clan, adorned with a King and a castle to call home, became a kingdom. Starsea did well in its castle, gaining new members every day. Everything seemed great - until Mumbai was almost assassinated. His assailants (a Light Divinity named Pippin, a Spiral named Caesar, and a Bogsneak named Etigua) fled the castle after their unsuccessful attempt; Etigua and Caesar were never seen or heard from again. Pippin, however, later returned, with a band of Light renegades and Shade-touched warriors. They fought the clan for revenge, and although they lost, Starsea suffered great damage. The castle had been turned to ruin, and almost every member of the clan had died or run away. Varanasi and Xerxes reformed one morning on the beach amongst the ruins of the clan they founded. The next night, at sunset, they watched Frostbyte and Saturn die on a mountain; the following morning, they returned to the beach and declared Starsea destroyed. It is surrounded partially by the Garden and partially by bare grass on dirt on rock (owned by the clan in case they need it later). The castle itself can remove, add, shrink, or enlarge rooms thanks to its magical properties. On the north end of the castle is a group of massive, sturdy trees, protecting it from rear ambushes. On the east end is the Garden, covering the rest of that part of the rock tower. To the south is a path made of marble and crystal that leads into the castle, and to the west is the aforementioned untouched land. The two front towers and the front rooms are occupied by the Department of Combat, and the entrance is always guarded. Past the entrance is the Rhodochrosite Courtyard, a large open space that hosts a variety of activities. Above it is the Chalcedony Courtyard, a less wide but much longer path. The rooms closest to the Almandine Staircase are occupied by guards watching the inner sanctum of the castle. Guests most often occupy the luxurious rooms within the largest building; new members of the clan live within rooms close to the guest rooms. The Celestine Tower is the highest tower of the castle; at its peak is a miniature observatory, lived in and carefully tended to by the clan's astronomer, Rigel. The tower on the other side of the roof, the Morganite Tower, is occupied by King Mumbai and the clan's highest officials. The largest tower of the castle, referred to as the Kunzite Tower, is between Celestine and one of the guard towers; colloquially called Lookout Point, this is where dragons often spend time watching the skies and surrounding regions. Next to the Kunzite Tower is the vast Library, a treasure trove of information carefully watched and tended to by the clan. As trusting as Starsea is of outsiders, guests are not permitted to enter the Library unless accompanied by at least 2 dragons who are already in the clan. Across from the Library is the Sacred Space, a small building dedicated to the Dept. of Spirituality; ceremonies are held, and this is where the DoS's members sleep. The eastern side of the castle is occupied entirely by the Garden, a massive effort undertaken by the Agriculture Department to grow and study as many plants (the weirder the better) as they can. The Garden, like the Library, is closely guarded; if any part of it is harmed, the attacker will face Chernobyl's wrath. At the far northern end is the Forge, Novarupta's home. Here, fire and magma hiss and growl, and metals are shaped anew. The Forge reaches extremely high temperatures; as such, it is only accessible to Fire dragons (unless a special cooldown procedure is undergone). Canela lives here. In a hidden area below the castle is the Vault, home to the clan's riches - its money, most of its food, all of its crystals, et cetera. The Vault is accessible only to dragons who are given special permission and clearance. At the edge of the library, leading out into the Garden, is a massive room occupied by Sílex, the clan's beastkeeper, and all of the clan's animals. Due to the amount and nature of the creatures within, this room also requires permission (from Sílex) before it can be entered. A hidden but easily reachable room below the Chalcedony Courtyard is the Healing Area; Pallas and Ariel live and study here. This is the one universal location of physical (or mental) healing; spiritual healing is undergone at the Sacred Space. Not too far from the Forge is the Kitchen, where Umber lives and works on his delicacies. The mercurial, mutable nature of the halls and rooms of the castle makes one final exception: the Balcony* and its attached area. The Balcony was created to offer a western view out to the ocean to which the clan owes its name and beginning. The sunset shines its light on the clan's emblem**. Recent arrivals are less likely to do this. [*]Heirs to the throne are first selected from the current leader's/leaders' children. If there are no eligible children, immediate genetic relatives are parsed; after that, adopted relatives; if all three methods fail, any member of the clan who is deemed worthy may be selected to lead. [*]Fashion generally does not denote rank, as all dragons are encouraged to dress however they'd like. [*]The clan is divided into Departments; within each Department there are jobs to be filled. The highest Department is that of Communications & Outreach, sometimes referred to as the Government Department. The other Departments are not ranked. Dragons live near other members of their Department. [*]Gifts are a large part of life in Starsea and are often given to potential (or existing) allies in order to ensure a happy relationship. They are also part of courtship in the clan; favored items or apparel are common gifts between lovers. [*]If hatchlings are not being raised by their parents, they can be raised communally; more often, though, they are selected by an existing pair of dragons to raise. [*]Sornieth Sign Language is taught to all members of the clan. [*]All dragons attend the Starsea Academy; they learn generalized knowledge and, depending on their interests, are encouraged to take specialized courses led by Department members. [*]Somehow, Imperials and Pearlcatchers coexist relatively peacefully in Starsea (although the Pearlcatchers often feel threatened since they're a smaller population). Higher-ups try not to put these two breeds in the same Department, however. [*]When leaving the clan on an extended trip, many dragons tend to wear an article of clothing with the clan emblem on it to represent Starsea beyond its borders. [*]While they don't get particularly special treatment, Mumbai and Athens are viewed and occasionally referred to as 'gifts from the Arcanist,' since they were the first hatchlings born after the clan was rebuilt (while also being the children of the clan's founders). [*]Anyone who wants to name their child after a crystal while living in Starsea has to get it approved first. Crystal names are said to possess great power; oftentimes, the symbolism or actual traits of a crystal are believed to affect the child and reflect in their personality and/or life. [*]Due to the sheer amount of crystals and weird magic in the castle and surrounding regions, any non-Arcane dragons who live in the castle (even temporarily) must undergo a process to protect them from getting sick. [/LIST] [b]An especially important note on culture:[/b] Crystals are a massive part of life in Starsea. They are gratefully and graciously accepted gifts, and are a large driver of the clan's economy, being its biggest export. They are hoarded in vast amounts somewhere within the castle. (Various other objects, including non-crystalline minerals, are also important to the clan, but not as much as crystals.) [b]Another note:[/b] Within the clan were 11 select dragons referred to as Divinities. They were demideities of their elements. They each had different origin stories, but had in common that their hatching/creation was specifically intended by their deities. They were extremely powerful in their elements, and sometimes seemed to have an otherworldly glow about them. They're all dead now, although Varanasi and Xerxes are similar to them. [center][size=4][font=abyssinica sil][b]Festivals[/b][/size][/font] [font=abyssinica sil]When a Flight festival begins, whichever dragon is that Flight's Divinity leads all festivities. Each Divinity celebrates differently; for example, Tjikko, the demigoddess of Lightning, throws raucous parties (often involving weather manipulation, her favorite pastime) and holds special engineering classes for interested dragons. Dawn: As the sun rises, the clan's day begins. Nocturnal dragons (mainly Rigel) go to sleep, but the mostly-diurnal clan wakes up. The night guards go back in and sleep the day away.
Morning: Throughout the morning, activities commence. Dragons doing odd jobs go about their day; when their job is done, they find something else to do. Any business that occurred overnight (such as a package delivery) is handled. The crystal gatherers do their thing; the scientists do theirs. Dragons in the combat department keep training. Poiz keeps being spooky.
Afternoon: Same as the morning. As the afternoon segues into the evening, more dragons declare their jobs done and return to the castle to read, talk, play games, or do other peaceful activities.
Sundown: As the sun lowers, nocturnal dragons begin to awaken (Rigel often socializes with the clan during this time). Umber, the chef, prepares a large, scrumptious meal for the clan to share. Everyone gathers in the courtyards to eat cheerily; if needed, Mumbai and other officials often address the clan at this time. Musicians and performers help boost & maintain the happy mood with their work. After supper ends, everyone returns to their quarters to wind down for a while before going to sleep.

(Throughout the day, dragons will eat snacks when they need to; the only set meal time is the end-of-day supper. As well, religious rites and ceremonies occur at random times.)
