INTRO

This is the story of the Rose Woods Empire. It was not always an empire and it was not always at relative peace. It starts with the story of Reiyn and Malcodor. They were the main characters at the beginning, but the story has since shifted to many others. The weight of the empire rests on the shoulders of all. They will all have their time to shine. Witness the rise and the fall of many. Witness the deaths of thousands, the births of hundreds, and the agony of all involved. Welcome to the home for the unwanted. Welcome to the Rose Woods Empire.

FULL HISTORY

In the beginning, Reiyn and Malcodor were in the ranks of the Plaguebringer together. Reiyn learned of an evil spreading through the army and tried to warn other of it. Sadly, she was called a fool and thrown in prison for her words. Kismet appeared to Reiyn and claimed that she could make all the problems disappear. Reiyn agreed, but she didn't know the cost. Kismet erased Reiyn's memories. Somehow, some of Reiyn's memories stayed in her mind. It drove her insane and she ran away from the army. Mal went with her and they started the clan. Mal knew he couldn't just desert the Plaguebringer, so he returned to her ranks. Reiyn stayed and started the clan.

Reiyn had hoped that her clan would be a place for dragons like her. She hoped it would be a refuge for lost dragons. Many dragons came to her. She even found her long lost sister, Rile. Unfortunately, that was the last time the clan would know peace. The Plaguebringer found Reiyn and banished her for leaving her exaltation. To the Plaguebringer, Reiyn had betrayed the plague flight. Reiyn packed up her clan and began the long journey to a land of new beginnings, the Sunbeam Ruins. The then ten dragon clan traveled through the Scarred Wasteland and Tangled Wood to make it to the Sunbeam Ruins. They lost a few dragons, but ultimately the journey was a success.

Reiyn found a beautiful area on the border of the Tangled Wood and Sunbeam Ruins. She decided to settle there with her clan. Unbeknownst to them, some spirits had followed them across Sornieth. Regalis, the spirit of the rose, grew massive roses for the dragons to protect them. Venandari grew the woods around the roses, not only to protect the dragons, but also the roses.

The clan slowly changed and formed into a kingdom. Reiyn started as the leader, but her struggles with MDP caused a constant flux in leadership. Whenever a less stable version of Reiyn's consciousness would emerge, Rile would rule in her place. Unfortunately a young pearlcatcher by the name of Queen had a different idea. While Reiyn was down, Rile and Queen would fight tooth and nail for leadership. Rile instituted what was known as the Wildclaw Police. The wildclaws banded together and helped Rile to gain dominance over Queen.

The power struggle lasted longer than anyone had feared it would. However, it ended when Rile died. She entered a tournament and was killed. Soya was outraged. She fully supported Rile and could not stand her 'true' leader being dead. She salvaged what she could and brought Rile's body back to the clan. Soya infused Rile with the Shade and brought her back to life. Rile gained more power than anyone ever could. Together, Rile, Soya, and Amoral summoned a massive Shade entity to destroy the sanity of the clan.

The clan fell apart. They entered the dark ages and a civil war started. Half the dragons hated the Shade and the other half embraced it. Those who were against the Shade lived in the library and the southern-most towns, which were protected by a magical barrier. The others lived primarily in the castle. The rebels were ravaged with troubles and destruction while the government created a super weapon by the name of Xenon. Skirmishes broke out and many dragons died. Finally, a mass war broke out. It was the day of the eclipse. Total darkness fell over the woods. Blood washed down the dusty roads.

Then, a large, vibrant, dragon appeared. She stopped the battle in its tracks, all the fighters were paralyzed by her magic. She gave the great command for all those wishing to be cleansed to come forward. Only Rile and Soya stayed back. Soya couldn't bear to part with her childhood companion and Rile knew she would die without the Shade holding her together. The rest of the dragons were cleansed. Not all of them survived the cleansing. More than half of the population either died or fled the woods.

With the now clean woods, the influence of the Gods could once again reach the clan. Things started looking up in the clan. Their main export, ores and minerals, were found more common, eggs became more plentiful, and most of the hate dissipated. Fera, the youngest of the spirits, brought animals to the woods. The once silent woods were now filled with howling and chirping. Dragons created more groups within the woods. The dragons in the clearing became known as the Fallen, the rest became known as forest dwellers. The entirety of the dragons in the woods became known as the Burning Rose Clan.

A while after peace flowed through the land again, all the clan leaders in the area decided to form the Rose Woods Empire. They combined all their resources and abilities and create a strong, powerful, unstoppable empire. The woods and defenses were expanded to cover the whole region and infrastructure was built in the woods. All the dragons in region started to live together in harmony, being watched over by the spirits.

REGION

The Capital of the Rose Woods Empire resides in a large patch of woods. Lots of buildings are built in the woods. Some places have more dense clusters of buildings, but the old village and the city are the largest. Although, some of those buildings were moved deeper into the woods. The dragons and nature live together in harmony. Trees grow in and around buildings and lots of animals enjoy making friends with the dragons.

The woods themself are a little more complex. There are four important places in the woods. The first is Lake Leptos. Sitting in the middle of it was a large pirate ship, but the ship had been hijacked by a tea salesdragon. One of the dragons that died in the battle was fixing it. The lake has nothing living in it. Not even plants. The water is boiling hot and would instantly give any dragon a third degree burn.

The second is the sacrificial table. The table is used by Amoral and Soya quite frequently. It reeks of blood. While most of the woods are full of life, the area surrounding the table is dead and quiet.

The third is the Rebellion Dungeons. It was once used as a safehouse, but now it stands empty. There are some supplies in there, but nothing that would help anyone now. The only reason anyone would go in there would be to seek safety.

The fourth and last is the Government Dungeons. It is full of torture devices. It has knifes and saws that are caked with dried blood. Chains line the walls. No one goes in there. Not unless they have a death wish.

Lake Leptos is in the southeast region of the woods, the table is in the south, the Rebellion safehouse is in the east and the Government dungeons are in the west. The rest of the woods are lively and dangerous. Thanks to Kisai's magic the woods are kept safe. Dragons are allowed in, but can only get in through predesignated points where they are then screened by warriors. The magical wards also prevent anyone from being able to scry or magically search for the dragons within. This, theoretically, also includes the gods.

There are also roses. These roses are how the clan got its name. They are ginormous roses, easily the size of a fae. They are thought to be a residual impact of the Shade, although the roses have been in the woods since the clan arrived. The roses appear without warning. They used to be used as a guide, but soon dragons realized that the roses were guiding them astray. The roses are no longer trusted. They are also poisonous. If a dragon touches bare flesh against the petals of the rose, the rose will use thousands of tiny needles to inject a highly potent poison into their flesh. Their flesh will quickly begin to erode. Within an hour, the skin that touched the petals will be gone. After the roses have guided that victim, they will burst into flames and disappear.

There are lots of different plants in the woods, including almost every type of tree, excluding shadewood and dead trees. There are lots of different insects, birds, reptiles, and amphibians. In most places in the woods, a dragon will be constantly assaulted by the sounds of the creatures.

There are only a few types of mammals. By the lake, there is a small pack of gale wolves. They arrived there when the owner of the ship died and an unnatural cold settled over boiling hot lake. Lurking in the shadows of the Government Dungeons is a large pack of umbra wolves. They are incredibly stealthy and kill anything that get within their grasp. A small pack of myosotis foxes and alstroemeria foxes roam the woods. They are often found playing in flower patches and romping through the dense woods. One Skoll and one Hati roam the woods as well. They stalk the woods silently. When the sun rises, Skoll can be heard howling and when the moon rises, Hati can be heard howling. Their howls are eerie and dragons know if they hear it, they should turn the other way and avoid the brothers. A few ethereal tricksters live by the Rebellion safehouse. They fade in and out of view, so some believe that they don't live in the woods at all. A average sized pack of trick of the lights live around the north border of the city. They don't do much, but occasionally they flit into the city and steal food from the food stores.

Among the birds that live in the woods are the Roc and Crowned Roc, only one of each. They stand much taller than even the biggest imperial. One guards the southern region of the woods while the other guards the northern region. They switch occasionally. They normally do not attack the dragons that travel nearby, because Kisai tamed them and used her magic to alter their minds. They act like dragons rather than animals. The roc is named Petra, he is typically found in the south. He is wise and is most often seen sleeping, but he is ever vigilant. If any dragons attempts to attack him, he will rip them apart. The crowned roc is called Stemma. She is typically in the north. She is young and enjoys hunting down the smaller birds and attacking dragons that wander in. Every time she attacks a dragon she get reprimanded by Petra, yet she continues to be reckless.

Then, there's the emperor. It has seven heads and is in a permanent slumber. It rests under mass of tangled roots by the lake. Venandari keeps it in check. The others keep telling him to get rid of it, but he claims it is a defense mechanism. It is the last defense for the clan. Venandari and the other spirits could, hypothetically, keep it in check and control it.

Spanning under the entirety of the woods and even reaching out in small tendrils to grasp the farthest corner of Sornieth, is the caves and mines. Some parts are blocked off the keep those in the cave safe. The main entrance is located just behind Basio's house, but was expanded so many more entrances are located throughout the woods with buildings built over them. Under kingdom in the woods, the caves are shallow, but as they approach the outer edge of the woods, most parts are at least one hundred feet deep and continually sloping.

The Warriors

The warriors are dedicated protectors of the empire. The warriors include those who use physical attacks as well as magical. Warriors are stationed at entrances to the empire to screen newcomers. They also go on patrols through the streets to make sure crime stays to a minimum. Patrols can be very dangerous, not because of crime, but because of wild animals that invade homes. The warriors currently consist of Ekane, Kulaas, Andromeda, and Tarnished.

The Merchants

The merchants are the main crafters and salesmen of the empire. They create most of the export and revenue for the empire. The merchants create everything from machinery, to clothes, to floral arrangements. They truly bring life and happiness to the empire through their dedication and devotion to their craft. While there are many merchants in the empire, there are eight that are most notable and well known throughout and outside the empire. Those eight are Xenon, Fate, Quincey, Koquo, Sekhmet, Vulcan, Kaliya, and Quaeinfernum.

The Citizens

There are three sections of citizens in the empire. The watchlist, the citizens, and the staff of Lightweaver's University.

The watchlist consists of known criminals. These dragons are watched for any sign that might snap and hurt others. This group consists of murderers, thieves, cannibals, necromancers, and overall scary dragons. The dragons on the watchlist are only known to the council to prevent everyone from going into panic. The dragons on the watchlist are Soya, Hyun, Bertholdt, Hypnotized, and Finedel.

The citizens of the empire are free to do as they please, within the law. Most hold jobs and work hard to support themselves and their families. Citizens, like everyone else, are free to live anywhere they please in the empire. That includes above and underground and anywhere in the woods. Citizens live knowing that they are safe from dangers of the outside world. The citizens include every dragon that is not listed in another sect.

The Lightweaver's University is the premier university in the area. The university specializes in science, but also has some oddball classes. The campus is large and beautiful, made of glass and dark timber. The headmaster, Plato, hand selected the best and brightest of Sornieth to help guide dragonkind into a smarter, more advanced future. The professors at the university are Plato, HeiBai, Laozi, Emile, Galatia, Kintsugi, Natalem, Petrichor, Fulmin, Carnage, Keirssig, Siantha, Gallowe, Aliko, and Nikola.

OTHER The Caravan There are six dragons on the caravan. They consider each other siblings, although they are from all other Sornieth. Their eggs were found by Soya. She gathered them together and hid them in the woods, intending to come back and fill her need for dragon flesh. While the eggs were incubating, Amoral found them in the woods. He interrogated Soya and figured out what she intended to do. He took the eggs and brought them to Luceat. The six grew up in the Outclan. They returned to the Burning Rose clan. Amoral told them the horrible truth of what had happened. They took Alba's old boat as a home. They decided that they loved to meet new people and discover new things, so they started a traveling caravan. They travel between the Outclan and the Boat, resting at each. The Caravan

There are six dragons on the caravan.
37025920.png Kingfisher is one of the guards for the Caravan. He is blind, but still does his best. Along with guarding the Caravan, he sells swords.
Anole is solely a salesman. He sells rare minerals that they find on their travels. He also sells gems and rocks. 37025945.png
37025953.png Cardinal looks very sketchy and dangerous, but he does not defend the Caravan. He is bandaged because he has to go some pretty bad places to retrieve the illegal items that he sells.
Salamander is another guard. She is the largest and protects all of the others. She sells tools. 37025879.png
37025931.png Raccoon is very gentle and kind. He is very smart and proves so by selling medicines and other natural remedies.
Lynx is also a guard. She teaches Kingfisher how to fight despite him being blind. She sells pelts and skins. 37025932.png

These are the main Caravan travel routes. They go other ways, but these are the main ones.

CULTURE
Export and Import

The empire mainly exports ores and minerals. The ground beneath the castle is rich in minerals. A grand mine system runs under the entirety of the woods and allows easy access to the main source of income. Another export is wood. Obviously, living in the woods they can afford to chop down quite a few trees and sell the timber. Thanks to their powerful mages, they are able rapidly increase the growth of wildlife allowing more export.

The immense amount of merchants provide another excellent export. All merchants individually sell their wares and are taxed slightly to help bring in profit for the empire.

The final notable export is hatchlings. Most are sent to the Lightweaver and the parents consider it a great honor when their children do such great things. Some of the hatchlings, however, are too weak for war and are instead send off their children to other clans.

Worship

Almost all of the dragons worship the deity of their native land, but most of them also have some sort of shrine to the Lightweaver, to thank her for granting the empire land. Worship is done in many different ways. Some dragons make small sacrifices of their meals to their deity, others offer up prayers, some train their children and send them to exaltation, and others do all they can.

A few dragons worship the Shade. Despite the rough history of the clan, Shade worship was not banned. The Shade worshipers solely make sacrifices to Shade and spend up to eighteen hours a day in pitch blackness and silence communing with the Shade. Their purpose is to bring back the Shade and help it to rule Sornieth.

The smallest sect of religion is those who worship the Nightstalker. The Nightstalker resembles a large, hairless, wolf. It has a long snout and many rows of razor sharp teeth. It has no eyes, only slight indents where eyes should be. It is depicted as having a very muscular form and three, short, tails. On the end of each tail is a steel weapon which represents the different aspects of the religion, purity, vulgarity, and balance. The weapon of purity is a broadsword. The weapon of vulgarity is a scythe. The weapon of balance is a battleaxe. The weapons are said to protrude from the ends of each tail. The creature is rumored to wander Sornieth in the shadows and only shows itself to those who can handle the truth.

Nightstalker worshipers are known to perform gruesome and grotesque sacrifices in the night to impress their god. Most of their worship is done in the shadows, causing others to believe that the worshipers are ashamed of their belief. The truth is, all worshipers proudly display the mark of the Nightstalker. The mark is a black lily with a broadsword on the left, a scythe on the right, and a battleaxe in between them. Each member proudly displays the mark on their body in one of three ways, the Mark of Blood, etched into the skin with a knife, the Mark of Ink, injected under the skin with a needle, the Mark of Fire, branded onto the skin with a hot iron. The worshipers of the Nightstalker are referred to as 'children of the night'. Many refer to each other as 'brother' and 'sister'.

The dragons worship the Nightstalker in the pursuit of truths. The truth of knowledge, strength, power, friendship, all of which can be granted with a simple sacrifice. Most sacrifices include a dismantling of the victim, a prayer, and a simple disposal. The disposal often utilizes the most natural thing, whether it be the Wyrmwound, the Sea of a Thousand Currents, or whatever may be near. The victims are mostly beastclans and large animals, but if a dragon betrays the Nightstalker, they will be killed, they are considered weak. The members do not actively seek out new people, they believe that new members will be brought to them by the will of the Nightstalker. Many believe that the Nightstalker arrived in Sornieth when the Shade did, they believe that it is an ethereal being that appears only in the shadows, and they'd be correct.

Defense and War

All the warriors of the empire help to protect the land. They patrol the area and protect everyone. To defend, the warriors use their physical and magical attacks to discourage crime. In the case of war, the dedicated warriors as well as any strong citizens and council members will fight to defend the empire. They will fight to their last breath to protect the empire.

Government and Hierarchy

The council is at the top of the hierarchy. They make all the decisions and have total control. Everyone else is equal below them. A lot of citizens regard the warriors as higher and some even consider the merchants as higher than just generic citizens. The dragons on the watchlist are at the bottom. They know that they're on the watchlist and they have slightly restricted privileges.
