So I suppose that's why, when teeth tore through her wing, when her team was disbanded, when BloodMagic was sacrificed in the form of [i]E X A L T A T I O N[/i], when Barachiel left them for the gold-eyed beast, she turned to club fighting. Only this new fix provided a different kind of thrill - one rooted in [i]gold[/i] instead of glory. Wagers were placed and eyes watched the massacre in the ring, as their audience wondered what profits could be made from the survivor of the chaos. Dragons didn't come out of this battle unmarred. Can you tell when Devi stopped [i]living[/i]? Was it the first kill? The second? The tenth? Or perhaps it was when she became a broken toy - with parts missing and a useless wing. Nothing. Yet you'll find yourself cornered against a wall of accusations all perfectly aimed with any chance of proving your own innocence gone. So what do you do? You act. You have to in these situations, because what your blessed neighbours don't realize is that a caged animal is a desperate one and desperation only sharpens the claws. So out of spite, you rise, [b]rise[/b] above and refuse to look down, fight your oppressors and use every advantage given to you. Living well, after all, is the best revenge. But don't ask questions when these "advantages" come at a cost. Because she got you here, didn't she? The way a hurricane was beautiful. But that last raging memory was the only thing the militarized brainwashing of Aera's Exalt Rescue Program had left him with - the only thing he had left to love about his past life. So he loved it. He loved it. He loved it. Because they couldn't take that away from him - he wouldn't[i] let them[/i]. And that knowledge pressed against his back like wings and sunk in his stomach like a stone. It curled around his throat like a fist and fluttered his heart like a kiss. He could not raise his city from the ground. But he could burn the capital [b]down[/b]. As powerful as it was he turned tail and ran like all the rest when the knife finally came down. When the trickling suspicions in his heart came alight in the form of a beast intent on the death of magic. But then, he supposed, she was a wolf in sheeps clothing. But what of the earlier times? The good fortune he so carefully maintained did him no good as he desperately tried to survive on his own. What would have been luck would have been to die right along side his parents as their sickness took them. But no, fate had other ideas for him. And where were his gods! Where were his gods when his family lay dying of some ill fated illness? Where were [i]any[/i] of these things when he needed them most? Through it all only Beachcomber had been there. Along the wall hung battered shields and ancient swords. You ignored the one dripping with fresh blood. Something smelt of decaying wood. Chatter shifted through the air, as the patrons hummed like mayflies. Not one met your gaze. Clips of conversation fluttered against your ears as the ancient floorboards fell soft under your feet. The barkeep ushered you over to the only pool of light in the place - the bar itself. You took a seat as the other dragons eyed you, before most returned to their drinks. Some ordered another round. Some kept staring. The barkeep - Hoard, according to his nametag - (thankfully) looked more put together than the good majority of dragons you've seen so far, but it still remained to be seen whether he could speak Standard Draconic or not. The Gossip

It was broad daylight outside, but the bar, seeming to exist outside of time

itself, was dark and dank and damp. Wooden walls seemed to lean in on you in the darkness. Lurking. There had been no name outside, just some battered old sign proudly proclaiming "DRINKS - ALCOHOLIC AND NON" in two languages, one you couldn't read. Along the wall hung battered shields and ancient swords. You ignored the one dripping with fresh blood. Something smelt of decaying wood. Chatter shifted through the air, as the patrons hummed like mayflies. Not one met your gaze. Clips of conversation fluttered against your ears as the ancient floorboards fell soft under your feet. The barkeep ushered you over to the only pool of light in the place - the bar itself. You took a seat as the other dragons eyed you, before most returned to their drinks. Some ordered another round. Some kept staring. The barkeep - Hoard, according to his nametag - (thankfully) looked more put together than the good majority of dragons you've seen so far, but it still remained to be seen whether he could speak Standard Draconic or not.

H O A R D - the barkeep, reasonably trustworthy. Hasn't tried to poison you, yet
