Hey there! T'name's dragnia, and like many of you here on Flight Rising, I have a problem. And that problem... Is buying dragons. While many members here have four, five, maybe six pages of permanent dragons... Well, I've got almost the entire lair full of permanent members of Clan Verglas. A bit of a nightmare, right?! Right now, I've got three dragons who visit a friend's lair sometimes, when I don't have enough space, and sometimes you may encounter them away instead of at home (they are my canonical traveling dragons who wander often to allied clans)! But!! After two year of being here, I've decided I should finally get around to writing the lore and the bios for all of my dragons! I've already got a few started, but I thought—maybe if I make this a more public thing, and now that this year's NaNo has come around, I'll be more motivated to actually finish it! And soon, all of my dragons will have a bio!
And so here I am, in the Creative Corner of Flight Rising, where I'll be challenging myself to write at least one dragon's Bio of a minimum of 1,000 words per day!!
But what does that mean? It means that my end goal is One Hundred Sixty-One Thousand words or more by the end of the month. I have 168+ permas (7 bios which are already written), after all ;>

Clan Verglas - A Lore-Building Challenge
The Story of a Very Cold Clan with a Very Warm Heart.
Everyone is born somewhere, or their origins may be unknown even to them. Maybe their parents abandoned the egg, unable to care for them when it was laid, maybe they were chased away by their old clan.
Maybe they felt like they never belonged.
Everyone has a story, whether it’s as simple as becoming restless and wanting to spread their wings, find a new home, or be it that they witnessed the murder or all their family.
Maybe it was just that their ‘home’ was never really their home.
Many a year ago, a single dragon awoke in the middle of what seemed to be nowhere, a place she later found to be called the Starfall Isles. She awoke with no memory of where she came from, or why she was there. She awoke with a single Mirror the color of blood looking down at her, looking out into the distance, who turned back to look at her when she stirred. The first thing her eyes met were the kind eyes of the Mirror as he gazed at her, and the smile he wore that was painted upon his maw. “Roershak,” he said, suggesting that was his name. “I’m not too sure who gave me it, but it’s the only thing I remember,” he said. Not too long afterwards, a small bird with glistening feathers landed on the Mirror’s head, and introduced himself as Viatrix.
The Guardian stared at the two with a confused gaze, and after a moment, she opened her maw.
“Calemvir. My name is Calemvir.”
Together, the two amnesiacs wandered the Isles, wondering why they had been chosen to wander the lands as they were. When Calemvir met the eyes of other wandering dragons, eyes full of sorrow or despair, eyes that could belong only to a dragon who knew only but solitude, she realized what it was that they were there for.
Family.
Settling in a lair at the Crystalspine Reaches, Calemvir and Roershak set out to find any dragons who were lost, wandering, dragons who had no place to call home. With a smile on their face, they would offer them a place to rest, and see them off after they recovered, or welcome them home with open wings. Slowly, their family began to grow, many dragons came and went along their way, but many stayed, feeling as though they had finally found their place. They would share their stories of dragons they met along the way, the many lands they traversed, the beastclans they fought, the sights that they saw. Even without having to leave, Calemvir and Roershak learned so much, and soon, their small clan had become a large family.
But Calemvir wasn’t happy. Even after she had a child who stayed by her side, had friends who would never betray her, she knew that something was calling for her. Leaving the clan Roershak and her good friend, Marbeline, she left. She left to wander the world of Sornieth to find the place she could call her own home, a place where she could do so much more than she’s ever done before, a place where she could settle and make sure would function as the home anybody would need.
And many a month later, she returned with news of a new land. A land covered in ice, painted in white that spanned miles and miles on end. She knew that this is what had been calling her all this time, and after a small chatter with the clan, they began their move towards the Southern Icefields.
But not everybody wanted to move. Upon announcing that they were the move, Roershak approached the female Guardian and looked at her with sad eyes. The Starfall Isles were his home, and he couldn’t bring himself to join in the move. He didn’t want to hold the Guardian back, knowing how important their charges were, and told her to leave without him. She couldn’t refuse, and he wouldn’t let her. He knew well how much it pained her to stay at the Isles while knowing that there was something out there calling for her, and that she should stop ignoring that call. With a sad smile, Calemvir bid her lifelong friend farewell, and soon they were on their way, waving goodbye to all who chose to stay.
Many months passed and the clan went from area to area, constantly finding themselves in need of finding a larger lair to reside in with their ever-growing family. After many moves, they finally settled in one place thought to be uninhabitable: The Fortress of Ends.
It was here that Calemvir finally found the place her heart belonged, and they settled in a large cave system. The system spiraled downwards into the earth, getting warmer the further they went, and soon it was decided that this was to be their permanent lair.
A simple meeting with the heads of the clan decided to finally give their family a name, and with a large smile, it was decided that Verglas was to be the official title of their family. Verglas, the shining film of ice as it froze on any surface and glimmered beautifully. They became Clan Verglas, a clan where everyone could find a place to belong.
Time passed and the clan grew and grew. Many dragons would dig and dig further into the earth to make more and more space in their giant cave system, and the clan came to be known as a refuge for any lost soul to come by and rest. Whether they decided to stay was up to them.
And so, here was a place where family could be born, new origins could be made. Their parents would see any children off who wanted to see the world, and welcome any who had nowhere to return to.
Welcome those who never felt like they belonged.
Here they could continue their stories and rest their wings, call it their home and recover from any event that may have changed their lives forever.
It was a home that could always be their home.
--
Clan Verglas is located at a huge cave system in the Fortress of Ends. With a two entrances, one at the highest peak of the Ends, and one by the coast, the lair is guarded by many an Ice Sculpture that the Ice Warden had bestowed upon the clan.
Within the cave system itself are many, large tunnels that branch off into various segments. Nests for eggs, rooms to rest, places to store food and other materials. The most elegant sections of the cave, however, are the hot springs and the underground gardens. While excavating, Stylios, the head architect, had discovered many hot springs within their cave system and he and the other digger dragons dug the area out to make it more accessible. Before then, however, they had discovered an area with what seemed to be a thin layer of translucent ice that allowed sun to shine brightly down onto what seemed to be fertile ground. Much to their surprised, the wall was thicker and sturdier than they had thought it to be, and it became their greenhouse, a place to grow many-a-plant.
There are still many other areas within the cave system that are yet to be explored, but what it certainly has enough of is room and a place to stay for any dragon who needs it.

The Southern Icefields weren't originally her homeplace. All she remembers is waking up one day in the Starfall Isles alongside Roershak, a Mirror dragon about her age, and Viatrix, a wandering Storm Seeker who became interested in the amnesiac. She adored the area—a place full of dreams and chasing after wisdom—and quickly befriended Roershak and Viatrix, but for some reason she never felt at home.
Soon her clan grew larger as she accepted many wandering hatchlings and dragons into her care, never once judging them from where they were originally from, what species, or whatever else they may be. Amongst the original newcomers were a curious Skydancer named Marbeline who wanted to expand his knowledge on magic, and a beautiful Coatl named Irineiya. Irineiya was young and naïve, but something about him attracted the young Guardian, and soon they had laid a nest of three eggs. When they finally hatched, however, only two had survived. One wandered off to search for another clan, and one stayed in the clan, a female Guardian whom Calmevir named Sol—the sun of her life.
Irineiya, however, was distraught by the death of the other hatchling, and left their clan, never to be heard from again. Calemvir only watched as he left, wanting to follow after him but stayed behind to watch over her growing clan and her daughter. During this time of sadness, Marbeline offered the Guardian much emotional support and stayed by her side and her daughter's side. This was the beginning to a life-long friendship that the three would share.
Still, though, she didn't feel quite at home. With her ever-growing clan and her beautiful daughter by her side, Calemvir wasn't satisfied and felt the urge to move, to go somewhere, anywhere. Leaving the clan to Roershak, she went off to travel.
And when she returned, she came back with tales of the Southern Icefields, of their beauty and majesty, certainly the most sublime thing she had ever seen, and asked her clan if they would return to the fields with her if they could get the Icewarden's blessing.
They all agreed, but Roershak, having known only of the Starfall Isles, declined the offer and chose to remain behind and serve the Arcanist. As her close friend and companion, Calemvir was saddened to see him remain, but would not force him to migrate with her and the others.
Shortly after receiving the Icewarden's blessing, Calemvir's clan moved, making their residence in the Frigid Floes. With the passing time, Calemvir continued to accept wandering dragons and lost hatchlings into her care, and found out that their current residence was far too small to accommodate the growing clan. Time passed and the clan grew only larger and larger, and the clan moved to the Snowsquall Tundra, the Cloudscape Crags, and finally at their final destination—The Fortress of Ends. The weather proved brutal and inhospitable for some of the clan and they chose to move out, but many chose to remain. With the help of the oldest of the clan, they were able to make a habitable area for everybody of the clan, where they live comfortably with enough food and water to spare for any passerbys.
Today, Calemvir serves as the High Alpha of her clan, alongside Sol, her daughter and Baron of the clan, and Marbeline, the Chemist. The three have formed The Trinity, who serve as the main protectors of their clan, which Calemvir came to name the Clan Verglas.
A clan which the High Alpha Calemvir aims to be a place where any wandering dragon can join and feel both safe and comfortable, and most of all—welcomed.
--
In technicality, the current location of Clan Verglas is her charge, but sometimes the other dragons tend to believe that her actual charge is her very own daughter, Sol.
--
Calemvir is a very gentle dragon, accepting of every dragon that comes by their clan. She serves as the clan's main defender, often putting herself in the front of the lines to protect her clan from any incoming attacks. Since Sol is her last remaining family member, she is quite protective over her, despite knowing fully well that she is able to manage for herself. Sol is her light, her meaning to life, and she would give anything for her daughter.

Clan Verglas - A Lore-Building Challenge
The Story of the Alpha.
Calemvir the High Alpha
She works as the main guard, posted right outside of her clan's lair alongside Conpassione, Ichtaca, and the many Ice Sculptures who have called Clan Verglas their place of eternal protection.
---
Together with Sol and Marbeline, these three form The Trinity.

Clan Verglas - A Lore-Building Challenge
What am I going to Do?
So you're probably wondering—Nia, what the heck are you doing? Well, this isn't just a lore-building exercise, but also a way to sort of just get it out there and show it off to the world. I've gotten a few compliments regarding some of the lore I've written on my dragons, so I figured—why not? Not only that, but I've also got some pretty awful self-discipline, so hopefully this will help me actually do something, ya know? Lots of my dragons have a lot of potential for lore, and now-a-days I'm only collecting more and more Lore-dragons. It's sort of a bad habit I've got.
I want to give these dragons a story, I want to give them life. Eventually, I want all of the dragons in my lair to have written lore, lore with Personality, a Biography, and things such as that. So this thread is for them—so that all inhabitants of Clan Verglas can come to life.
And if you want to join me on the journey, by all means, you're more than welcomed! ovo/
In order to figure out which dragon(s) I will be writing lore for that day, I'll be using this magical site. Yep. I'm randomizing it. All the way. Ha.
