[columns]It is my headcanon that some areas of the Gladekeeper's domain are much darker--physically and in essence. Nature in real life, as we all know, can be unfeeling, and will do as it must to maintain balance between all creatures. I think Glademom is no different, and my clan reflects the darker side of Nature. I wanted to infuse my lore with imagery slightly influenced by Shadow and Arcane, as both are Flights I was considering joining. Hope you all enjoy reading--thanks for stopping by! [nextcol] [/columns] [columns][nextcol]Territory Clan Sylvalis is located smack in the middle of the Gladeveins. The area is strewn with trees bent and twisted around otherworldy vegetation, and dragon-made paths wind throughout the area. In some places, clear streams hurry over rocks worn smooth by water and the passage of time. A few channels are so deep they measure up to triple the wingspan of an Imperial. Here, trees grow large and strong--as does the wildlife. It is a dangerous place to live, but well worth it to the dragons who call this place home. The climate is subtropical, with temperatures never reaching freezing (though dragons used to warm weather describe winters as just that). Because of this, the flora grows thick and lush where the sun manages to reach the ground. The canopy is very thick; this characteristic along with frequent thunderstorms means the area is swathed in a constant state of almost-darkness. In the shadows, nature has learned to adapt. Many plants and animals exhibit bioluminescence similar to that of deep sea creatures. Most dragons in Sylvalis are darkly colored and blend in well with the darkness, though they often have bright features consistent with the hues of indigenous plant life. The heart of the territory contains members' homes; these take the form of burrows, caves, and intricate treehouses, with the latter being the most common. These houses are built on the outside of the bole so as not to damage the tree by excavating the inside; Nature dragons with magical abilities will work together to help a member build their home. Because the forest is so dim, lanterns and magelight are plentiful. At the center of the territory is a large magelight enchanted to change color based on the time of day. It is visible from all areas (provided one is outside) and hangs far above ground, suspended from a tall tree's boughs. Residents call this the "sky light", though dragons from other clans might mistakenly picture a ceiling window when this term is dropped. It is a regal building, suitable more for a Light clan, but with the numerous vines and moss flourishing on its white stone it is slowly integrating with the landscape. Its vaulted ceilings boast astronomy-themed paintings done by clan artists, and are visible all the way from the ground floor due to the library's open structure. Shelves line the walls on all sides, connected via catwalks reinforced to hold even the heaviest dragons. Large spiral staircases with intricate railings allow dragons to go between levels, and rolling ladders accommodate smaller breeds that can't reach the top shelves on their own. It's a minimalistic building with a cozy feel, all white walls and dark wood floors. Some exhibits are permanent while others rotate on a bimonthly basis; this way all artists have a chance to show off their work. The gallery boasts several empty rooms for interactive pieces, and a large area out front to display land art. A gift shop near the exit is stocked full of works from artists of both Clan Sylvalis and allied clans, as well as a few tasteful souvenirs. Uncommon and rare plants flourish here, protected from extinction by the fond attention of the clan's botanists--or those that fancy themselves as such. The space also functions as an event hall, and can hold dozens of tables for parties or meetings. Strings of lanterns span the ceiling and add a comfortable ambiance to gatherings or night tours. Recently the conservatory has also become home to several endangered species of butterflies and birds--of course the butterflies have an enclosed space so the birds don't snack on them! (more to be added) Worship Being from Nature flight, the vast majority of Sylvans worship the Gladekeeper. A few dragons born to other flights have either "converted" or have simply never known any other deity, and so worship her as well. Deep in the territory is a grand structure fashioned from twisted vines, branches, and leaves to form a temple of sorts. Fireflies dance inside, thriving in the shelter that keeps them safe from predators and lighting the space for any dragons seeking solace in the Gladekeeper. The temple is maintained by Vedis, the clan's priestess. Training exaltees spiritually and escorting them to the Behemoth is one of her main duties, as well as providing clan members with direction and support. There is a smaller facility closer to the main area of the territory that is dedicated to all other flight deities. Small shrines are set in alcoves in the walls, complete with altars and any tools needed for rituals of the devout. All members accept each other's beliefs--or try their best--and dragons only seek a different deity for guidance if they feel that is the right choice for themselves. Some dragons simply pick a deity and claim it as their own, while others mosey about life without any need for worship or faith in a higher power. Magic and Technology Sylvalis is steeped in magic and superstition, keeping alive rituals and traditions long-forgotten by many other clans. This feature attracts many dragons with magical abilities--mostly because Sylvalis members are so accepting of such traits. (Will add more later, magic is very important in the clan!) Insane Imperials On the first page of my lair, there is a line of five Imperials with a blurb in their bios saying "part of the Insane Imperials collection." These are Imperials that are gifted with potent magical abilities (or in Remiel's case, fashioned with them), but because the magic is so strong it has a detrimental influence on their mental stability. Dragons displaying abilities this strong experience more intense repercussions after using magic: this can negatively affect them, other dragons, or the world around them. His magic is more ancient than most modern dragons'--less developed, but its unrefined nature lends to more barbaric and lethal consequences. Remiel's magic is Shade-based as he is a Shade-touched individual (read bio for more information). He exhibits mind control that goes beyond simply hearing another dragon's thoughts: he can slip his consciousness inside their minds. This disturbing ability leaves his own body mostly catatonic, though he maintains a small thread of consciousness by which he "returns". The psyche of the dragon on the receiving end of the slip (the "host") either shuts down as if they were sleeping or ceases to exist entirely, killing the host or leaving them in a permanently unconscious state. Remiel has only used this power four times in his life as it is draining and makes him physically vulnerable, so it isn't fully understood.[nextcol][/columns] [columns](blurb here)[nextcol][/columns] [columns][nextcol](blurb here) [/columns] [columns](blurb here)[nextcol][/columns] Pandora: chaos Epimetheus: truth Remiel: mind Persephone: spirit Hecate: time Pyrrha (not mad): life Conservation Research
