What is 'Saudade', and what is it about?
This story is a Pinkerlocke challenge. You can learn more about that here.
The story is about two dragons who find themselves wandering into the Spellbound clan with no memories of who they are. Two groups of dragons set off to try to help them find their home and where they belong, as they find along the way, they too do not know who they truly are.

What special rules are you playing by?

 • All dragon's names must be a strange word, but a real word. It does not have to be English.
 • Dragons must fight in the arena that matches their level closely. A level 20 dragon cannot fight in the training fields. The only exception to the rule is when they are accompanied by a dragon several levels below them.
 • There are two "search parties". These two groups have 4 dragons each. 3 will battle at a time, while one is on standby.
 • I may not exalt dragons that end up playing important roles, as I'd like to keep them for memories! However, in the story, they will still be dead, and cannot fight.
 • I can't always upload art. If that's the case, and I receive a trinket, I will write something for that day as a placeholder and upload art on that day whenever I can.
 • Dead dragons may still show up as ghosts or spirits. They can not fight or aid the team in any way, but they can interact with other dragons.
 • Important events or character introductions may have song lyrics attached to them! i will try to add lyrics as much as possible, as I find it fun, and it makes the series much more interesting.

The dragons appearing in the story are listed in the post below.
There you will find a brief overview of their personality and job amongst their group, along with their current health status.

'Cause you're a sky,
'cause you're a sky full of stars
I wanna die in your arms

I'm gonna give you my heart

Excitable, pure-hearted, and silly. Those are the words that best describe Ethereal. She enjoys dressing up in whatever goofy outfits she comes across, and is a wonderful actor. The moon was the only source of light, shining down through the trees, casting long, dark shadows around the group. There was something unsettling about this place at night. An ominous feeling hung over the area, as did a sense of unease and danger. Xen felt a shiver of fear run down her spine. "Our brother is right," she commented, voice as hushed as the night around them. She peeked out from her hood and scarf to observe her surroundings, but hadn't a chance to process what was happening before a glowing red rodent scurried out across the ground and sunk it's teeth into her leg. She let out a wail, trying to shake the Ember Mouse off, as two Crimson Emperors flew at Rasa, kicking and stomping and nearly trampling him. Try as they might to fight them off, their weak magic wasn't doing enough damage to defend them. Alerted by their screams, Faro rushed back to her siblings and frantically clawed at the monsters, finally managing to scare them off as they disappeared once more into the darkness. "Exactly what I was saying," shouted Rasa, as he lay on the ground trying to catch his breath. "We could get seriously injured out here. Imagine if a whole pack of monsters came and ganged up on us. We could be killed." "No, we wouldn't," Faro sighed dismissively. She rolled her eyes and helped her brother and sister back onto their feet. "I would be here to save you! You guys are weenies. The only problem here is that I am tough, and you're not! That's why we're out here! I'm going to train you to be strong." She got no response from either of them. In fact, it looked as if they were looking past her. "What, do I get the silent treatment? Look, I'm sorry, okay? There. I said it. If you guys really want to chicken out now, let's head back home. Nothing else is going to jump out at us." "U-Uhm. . I. . am not sure about that," Xen replied in a terrified whisper, even lower than her normal speaking voice. Both her and Rasa's bright, pink eyes were wide with fear, their whole bodies trembling as they slowly backed away. The Spiral chuckled in reply. "Come on. I know you're trying to scare me, but that's not going to work, guys. I'm not falling for something like that. See? No monster." As she turned around, she came snout-to-snout with a Death's-Head Stag. Behind it was an army of Sparrowmice and Webwings - none of which looked happy about them being in their territory. Faro turned a sickly pale. "Run." The three sprinted and flew in the other direction as quickly as they could, the angry mob of monsters right among their tails. Just when they thought that they had finally lost them, Faro, who did not know how to properly fly yet, tripped on a rock. As she stumbled back to her feet, the gathering of monsters had already cornered her, and were ready to attack at any moment. Believing that these would be her last moments, she closed her eyes tightly, and braced herself for attack. . . But nothing came. When she opened her eyes, she saw all of the creatures around her fleeing, running away as fast as they could. Once the crowd had cleared, she could make out the shape of another dragon in the foggy distance. "Please don't kill me, dude! I learned my lesson, please, I have a wife and kids! . . Okay, no I don't! But please spare me!" The stranger got closer, and she could see then that it was an Imperial dragon - he was covered in purplish-pink glimmering scales, and had large, bright pink wings. She almost thought she heard chuckling as he approached her. . oh no, was he crazy? Was he going to eat her alive!? "I'm not going to kill you," he assured her with a smile. "I have no intent on harming you. I just saw that you needed help. Those creatures really are quite easy to scare, huh? I walk through and they're suddenly rushing all over the place. Huh. But anyways. . are you alright?" Faro let out a long sigh of relief and nodded. By then, Rasa and Xen and flown back down by her side and were helping her back to here feet. "Who are you? Where are you from? What are you doing here?" Rasa asked defensively. "To be honest, I'm not quite sure myself," he laughed. "It seems I've lost nearly all my memories. Though, I do seem to remember being called 'Saudade'. . and that is fine by me. It's rather late, you should head back to your clan. And, if it's not too much to ask. . would you mind if I tagged along? I need somewhere to stay the night." Faro smiled and bowed her head at the stranger who had come to her rescue. "You saved my life. That's the least we could do." To be continued.

Introduction: The 3 Siblings and a Mysterious Imperial.

Rasasvada, Fanfaronade, and Xenization. Those were names the dragons of the Spellbound clan knew all too well. At night, they liked to sneak out deep into the forest and battle the monsters that lived there, putting their own lives at risk for the thrill. .

Ok, maybe it was just Faro that dragged them along.

"This is extreamley dangerous, and you know it," huffed Rasa, marching alongside Xen as they followed their overly excited sister deeper into the woods.

We could be killed."

"No, we wouldn't," Faro sighed dismissively. She rolled her eyes and helped her brother and sister back onto their feet.

"I would be here to save you! You guys are weenies. The only problem here is that I am tough, and you're not! That's why we're out here! I'm going to train you to be strong."

She got no response from either of them. In fact, it looked as if they were looking past her.

"What, do I get the silent treatment? Look, I'm sorry, okay? There. I said it. If you guys really want to chicken out now, let's head back home. Nothing else is going to jump out at us."

"U-Uhm. . I. . am not sure about that," Xen replied in a terrified whisper, even lower than her normal speaking voice. Both her and Rasa's bright, pink eyes were wide with fear, their whole bodies trembling as they slowly backed away. The Spiral chuckled in reply.

"Come on. I know you're trying to scare me, but that's not going to work, guys. I'm not falling for something like that. See? No monster."

"Run."

The three sprinted and flew in the other direction as quickly as they could, the angry mob of monsters right among their tails.

It's rather late, you should head back to your clan. And, if it's not too much to ask. . would you mind if I tagged along? I need somewhere to stay the night."

Faro smiled and bowed her head at the stranger who had come to her rescue.

"You saved my life. That's the least we could do."

Introduction: The Goofy, The Royal, The Blind.

Only came outside to watch the night fall with the rain
I heard you making patterns rhyme
Like some new romantic looking for the tv sound
You'll see I'm right some other time

Introduction: The Lost Dragon of Light - Part 1.

Follow me, follow me somewhere
Follow me, follow me somewhere
Follow me, follow me somewhere out there

The trees of the Starwood Strand swayed gently in the breeze, leaves fluttering and bushes rustling - the magical melody of the cool summer's night. Little did others know, as they returned to their dens, that once more, three young dragons had snuck out after curfew.

Those who ranted and preached about how dangerous the woods could be were not in the wrong, however. Many a tale had been told about the dangerous rouges, Sibyl and Esther, roaming the outskirts of the clan's territory - and these stories weren't all works of fiction. Rumors spread about them stealing from the hoard and even stalking hatchlings, waiting for their chance to strike. Remembering these tales, Honne suddenly grew quite nervous.

"Maybe. . we should turn back. ." the blind Imperial stuttered, grasping hard on to her Pearlcatcher friend's tail so that she didn't get lost.

"You say that is if my 'eart isn't beatin' a 'undred miles a minute as well," Ethereal replied, keeping a sharp eye out for anything that moved as they followed the song deeper and deeper into the forest, farther and farther away from their home.

Taxia, who had taken lead of the group, came across a large group of bushes, vines, and hedge that blocked their path - the singing coming directly from behind it. As the group listened in, their anxiety grew stronger and stronger. Who, or what, was making that noise?

Only one way to find out.

Ethereal was the first to peek through, carefully pushing through the vine and peering out into the clearing - where another strange dragon stood, looking up at the stars, humming her sweet song to herself. The atmosphere was peaceful, quiet, and calm, the beautiful Spiral's thistle scales glimmering in the moonlight.

"OH MY A'CANIST IT MUS' BE ONE OF THE ROUGES!"

Her piercing scream awoke and scared away the birds that slept in the trees, and was certainly loud enough to be heard from quite a ways away.

Taxia quickly pulled her back down into their hiding spot and covered her mouth, her muffled screams still being heard through his palm.

"T'xirr, ish one 'f th' rhhghhs! Lht me ghhh!"

"W-what is happening!? Is everything okay?" she questioned.

"Th'r's bl'd on 'er f'ce! SH' AHTE S'ME'NE!"

"No, Ethereal, I don't think she ate anyone-"

"W-what's happening? Guys? Is e-everything okay?" Honne asked, trembling in fear.

"I must agree with your friend here. What are you three doing here in the woods so late at night?" The Spiral looked over at Ethereal with genuine concern.

@Aviary

(Sorry, the update for today will either come much later tonight, or I will write two updates tomorrow! I had to wake up very early to go to the doctors, have my blood taken, and then when I came home I napped until... now. Bonus suspense! Check back late tonight or some time tomorrow!)
