The founders always dreamt about it turning into a place where every dragon could find laughter and open arms. It should become a home for lonely souls, a place to rest the tired wings or to settle down and listen to the soft winds carrying along with them the promise of future adventures. Over time, the number of dragons sharing this dream grew as did their verdant territory. The diversity of each character and the many professions turned this place into something unique and very precious to all of them. The vast and labyrinth like library, a never-ending whisper at the Humming Chimes Inn and luxury and enjoyable baths can be found next to a well-stocked, responsible pharmacy and healing place. One should also visit the explosive workplace of the Pyrotechnist or have a look at the delicate utensils over at the Glassblower. Lastly, everyone would just sit and relax at the Gathering Point in the very middle of the Clans territory and listen to all the exciting stories and expressive songs performed there. From the conscientious leaders of the clan and the politic echelon, who look out for all the souls entrusted to them, to those not able to fit in quite well in the mainstream and who created their very own space within the clan; they all share the same way of life. Trustworthy teachers are looking after the future of the clan-hatchlings and youngsters--, while others take care of the lush flora and fauna of the surroundings. Those with a thirst for adventure and arts are always out and about, while those interested in the secrets of sorcery and science rarely set a foot outside their workplaces. Trained dragons are gathering all the goods needed, while those being part of the Trading Company are eager to build and maintain strong relationships with other clans all over Sornieth. They are all supported by the knowledge and guidance of the many ambassadors, protected by the restless effort of the strong warriors protecting each and every member of the family. And there is still so much more to see and explore! She described to them the structure of other dragon families she had visited during her travels and also her own home lair. Over time she became the leader’s right-hand dragon, helping Azure to settle down in her role and to spread her own wings. At one point, Kaida more and more withdrew from her original post, enjoying a more relaxed life while looking after the little hatchlings, telling stories of the clan's beginnings and cooking for everyone. But to Azure, the elderly dragon would remain a mother figure, the go-to dragon whenever she needs advice. They moved from being just a little group in the Zephyr Steppes to a huge clan with territory expanding as far as the Cloudsong. Their number had grown and with it the diversity of dragons and professions. All seemed well, until the second leader Alec stood up during a council meeting and announced something unexpectedly. The co-leader has always only been close with Azure, keeping his distance with the other dragons. Maybe his hatchling days had scared him so he just couldn't get comfortable being around the others. Regardless the cause, Alec just preferred watching over everyone from a certain distance. The others often called him the 'shadow-leader' as he was never out in the open or speaking his mind during any meetings. He certainly can't be pigeonholed as a typical leader figure. For a while now he knew that this family would continue on growing, and that they'd need someone alongside Azure to lead the elder council and the other dragons. Alec also knew that dragon wouldn't be him. So he started to look for a suitable successor to take over his role as co-leader. Someone more active, that would involve itself in the clan matters. The mirror had grown tired of itself being unable to join the other dragons naturally. He just hadn't been able to build a good relationship with the rest of the clan. And so the appointed Haneul as the next co-leader. ~ Clan Lore ~
the story so far....

Azure loved the feeling of the wind under her wings. The little Fae was born in the Windswept Plateau, but knew nothing about her own past or family. She had been alone for as long as she could remember.

The loneliness gnawed at her soul until she couldn’t bear it any longer. Day after day Azure wandered the lands of the wind, looking for someone who would keep her company or a place she would be able to call “home”.

During one of these days, she encountered a young Mirror named Alec. Looking at her reflection in his eyes, Azure felt like she was watching a mirror image of herself: a lonely dragon, searching for something not yet found….

Alec loved the feeling of freedom while running. Speed had always fascinated him.
The medium-sized Mirror was born in the Windswept Plateau, but had been alone since the day he’d hatched. Everything he knew, Alec learned by observing the other dragons as they were flying and hunting in groups. But the little hatchling never approached them. He had the feeling he wouldn’t belong with them.

So he wandered the lands of the wind day after day. Looking for someone who would keep him company, one that would the same loneliness. Someone he could feel at home with.

During one of these days, he encountered a young Fae named Azure. Observing her body language, seeing the reflection of himself in her eyes, Alec felt like he was watching a mirror image of himself: a lonely dragon, searching for something not yet found.…

Immediately both of them felt a certain attraction to one another. They knew nothing about where they’d come from, the clans their parents lived in or what plans they had for the future.

Azure and Alec continued traveling together and over time they established a bond like siblings, becoming each others' family.

Together the young dragons dreamed about a clan of their own; there, every dragon would be welcomed with open arms, no matter the breed, land they came from or their character. Everyone would be able to find a new home with them, as nobody should ever have to bear the loneliness of not being able to call a place “home”, of not being able to feel the warmth of a family!

It was right then, in the sweetness of young dreams, when Azure and Alec laid the foundation of the ‘Clan Àidhear’.

~ Growth Of The Clan ~

And so Azure became the strength behind the whole clan, putting its welfare above everything else.

The little leader is very proud and despite her delicate appearance, she fiercly protects her family, not hesitating to oppose those that challenge her authority or make fun of her abilities. By no means is she afraid to act out on her own and she takes matters in her own hands.

One should be careful not to underestimate Azure because of her size or her open mind towards everyone… It can backfire very badly! Even the grown men and warriors of the clans describe her as being quite scary if angered.

While Azure started organizing and leading the dragons, Alec prefered staying on the sidelines. Still, the young Fae relies on him more than most know, using the calm Mirror as something of a lifeline. Even if he dislikes being the centre of attention, his wisdom is worth a million.

Being quite accepting of the ideals and ideas others have, the clan welcomes every dragon looking for a place to stay or eventually settle down in with open arms. Azure loves to take in every stray she encounters.

The big Imperial lady, Kaida, was the one who helped the two young leaders build their clan.

The Library

Did you ever got lost in a library?
Well, it could happen whenever you enter this one....

Voriksha's sanctuary can be found at the upper right side of the clans territory. The whole hill there was hollowed out as a labyrinth of tunnels and caves, with a surprisingly efficient layout.

The library is like a city unto itself with roads and winding lances, alleys and shortcuts. Nearly every wall of the caves are lined with large shelves, filled with scrolls, books and journals. Some hallways are broad have high ceilings so even the biggest Imperial could fit in them, others form narrow lanes barely wide enought for a Fae to pass. Separated from the usual holding areas, different passageways lead to comfortable reading holes.

That's where the all the books and scrolls, stories and dreams live! The air is heavy with the smell of leather and dust of old parchment and binding glue--the smell of secrets.

There is a problem with the construction though. Only Voriksah, Izarre and her scrivs know the correct way through the labyrinth of tunnels and caverns without getting lost. Any other dragon had to depend on their help to get around safely. Sometimes Voriksha simply 'forgets' about visitors while immersing herself in her readings. The well integrated Izarre acts as a real lifesaver, not only does she helps the visitors to find whatever documents they may be looking for, she's even able to find the lost wanderers of the tunnels again.

The Humming Chimes Inn

The Humming Chimes is a big restplace for every traveler that comes by Clan Àidhear and seeks lodging, food and drink. It was built by the current owner Keao, who runs the inn with the help of his service Tien and his chef Kaida. The front, facing the the middle of the clan's valley is skillfully ornamental and very welcoming for travelers.

The place is stocked with a wide variety of potables and dishes typically for each flight in Sornieth, so one staying at the inn would be able to enjoy a litte bit of 'home'. Kaida is always eager to learn and extend her knowledge, willing to listen to special wishes of visitors... and the first outcomes of these attempts are almost always edible.

The inn has a very large main room called the Whispering Hall, which is filled with tables and laying space in every size, being the main section to reach the caves for the inn's occupants. The community hall is also used for clan and political meetings or rented for wedding or birthday parties.

When one enters the hall, eye and ear are immediately drawn to something over ones head. High up the ceiling, and along some of the walls too, a half hundred or more Wind Chimes hang from chains, tinkling endlessly to the everblowing wind. They are of various sizes, made by the hands of many hatchlings, youth and sometimes even adults of the clan. They aren't like those made by the hands of the clans Wind Chime Maker Tharkay, who only creates and works his magic on the Birth Chimes; the works hanging in this hall are all made by amateur artist, wounderful pieces with big effort behind every tune. A visitor is able to purchase a Wind Chime as a memento of its stay with this clan, taking along the sound of the calm and steady Windswept Plateau.

The Inn is made up of all kind of open caves, tunnels and burrows of all sizes and these elaborated, many-tiered structures consists of a mish-mash of architectural design with some specialized caves for certain breeds.

For the polite Coatls the Inn prepaired some heated rooms that are inspired by the breeds home, the Ashafall Waste. Not far, at the side of a sheer cliff one can spot some roosts made out of tree sap, weaved to the wall so every Fae staying over has a place to relax. The secure loving Nocturnes are able to find a safe haven in caves created in a hidden structure, constructed to camouflage with its surroundings. All caves are styled to meet ones need. Every dragon that checks in can freely choose the shape and function of their guest room to comply with its own preferences.

Soon after joining the family, the Imperial lady Eione decided to open and operate the Baths, near the Inn. Travelers and members of the clan alike can relax in a comforting atmosphere, taking the waters in different temperatures. When one gets tired the dragon can return to the Whispering Hall for a nice gathering.

Eione guards her domain very carefully so every dragon entering would be able to have time to relax to the fullest.

~ The Elder Dragons ~ The Elders of the clan had a life-time to learn stories and master their crafts. They try really hard to make sure, that every opportunity available for the family is taken notice of. As advisors they provide guidance for developing and achieving meaningful educational, professional, and personal goals of anyone who comes to them. Most of the time they offer advice and support to the leader Azure, helping out with matters of political nature. As adviser they have a deeper knowledge in a specific area, accumulated to experiences. Their role is that of a mentor or guide and differs from dragon to dragon. They are able to give a more detailed face to face explanation of a complex or sensitive topic or matter, benefiting the clan manifold. During their meetings they exchange and develop options, discuss different issues and plans for the future. The advisers also have significant external contacts to gather new ideas from all over Sornieth. Kaida - former traveler, adviser, cook [columns] [nextcol]Kaida came by one day and simply decided to stay; she is one of those who joined the clan in the very beginning, right after it was founded by Azure and Alec, and is one of the oldest dragons of Clan Àidhear. The big Imperial lady helped the two young leaders building their clan by describing the structure of other dragon-families she had visited during her travels. Over the time she became Azure's right-hand dragon, watching the young clan growing, helping out wherever she could. As time went by, everything settled down and the leaders - or at last Azure - grew into her role, spreading her own wings. Kaida then withdraw more and more from her original post, and nowadays enjoys a more relaxed live while looking after the little hatchlings, telling stories of the Clan's beginnings and cooking. But she still helps out whenever Azure needs her advice. [/columns] Tybal- adviser, giant softheart, Colonel [columns] [nextcol]Tybal is a giant Imperial, one among the largest of this breed. He possesses a very long serpentine body, but compared with his massy torso his pair of fringed leather wings seem to be all too small. This dragon is reserved with his words, distant emotionally and difficult to read with those, who are not familiar with him. But those who are close to Tybal know for certain: He's actually a pretty gentle and sweet guy. So to speak a giant with a kind heart – a heart of gold. Different experiances in life made him into a proud and well respected warrior of the Clan, and a dragon 'to-go-to' whenever there is a problem. The dragon loves hatchlings and abhors unnecessary violence. However, when push comes to shove, he's great to have on your side in battle. - Stories to read in his lore: 'The curious Spiral' 'New Experiences' [/columns] Edval- adviser, hatchling training supervisor, General [columns] [nextcol]Edval looks like the gruff and serious type on the outside, but actually he is loyal, protective and a real kind dragon. From time to time he can be quite overconfident, thinking he can do things others cannot. Edval also has an incredibly strong resolve and will do anything and everything in his power to accomplish what’s important to him without any hesitation. This dragon uses his strength and knowledge about fighting to protect himself and the more fragile species of the clan, refusing to abandon any other dragon in trouble. His intentions are well, but to others he kind of comes off as cold and aloof; as he prefears to not speak unless spoken to. Though having a rather rough side, Edval is also seen to comfort others who are scared; or hatchlings coming back a bit disillusioned of their first Coliseum experience. These kinds of acts have earned him respect and affection by many young dragons of the clan. - Story to read in his lore: 'New Experiences' -part of it~[/columns] Mythos - adviser, teacher, historian, storyteller [columns] [nextcol]Mythos was born in the The Tangled Wood and like Kaida, nobody really remembers when he actually joined the clan - but he has been there since the very beginning. The Imperial always considered himelf as a wind dragon by heart as it was there he found his love for ancient scripts and writings. Over time he had become a ([s]self-appointed[/s]) scholar, historian, collector of scripts, traveling bard and storyteller. He is the teacher with great knowledge, the name giver of the young hatchlings and one of the clans' most trusted advisers. [/columns] Lorcán - adviser, beastmaster [columns] [nextcol]Lorcán took over the position as adviser from his teacher Walder. The Skydancer is quiet and calm. He has the same strange affinity for animals like his teacher had. Lorcán now is the Beastmaster of the clan and can tell things about all creatures and familiars of the lair and the surroundings, that many other dragons would not know. His vast knowledge about the Windswept Plateau and many different places around the world made him a indispensable dragon for the leader Azure and the whole Clan. Having a sharp and quick wit, the savvy to understand even the more complicated tasks and riddles, the young Imperial spend hours in the library brooding over strategic materials and records of past conflicts - becoming the clans' strategist. He is deeply committed to his family and trains dragons on basic battle strategies, self defense, and easy to follow orders for emergency cases. Fiendark has high expectations for every of his students, can sometimes be too critical and rarely speaks words of praise - but that's only making them more precious. The strategist most favorite saying is 'Honor to whom honor is due', and he is gladly willing to give it to whoever deserves and earned it.[/columns] Étaín - diplomat [columns] [nextcol]Étaín has a very pleasant personality. A very nice and gentile dragon with a quick mind. She never had much talent for fighting and prefeared studying languages and the cultures of the various lands. Over the time she visited nearly all of the different flights and gained a collection of stories and tales during her traveles. So she became the clan's diplomat. Her ability and talents with language and her understanding of various cultures made her very suitable for this profession. Nowadays she's working to build connections with other clans, writes treaties of peace and alliances, arranges transfers and sales of the goods, and often has to act as mediator between too fired up merchants. Her familiar, a Wintermane Bowman named Aetius, accompanies Étaín on every travel. With his good eyes and a steady hands he ensures the diplomat's safety with a cold and concentrated mind. He would never forgive himself if anything might happen to his friend. [/columns] Over the time Étaín realized, that the job as Diplomat was getting too much for only one dragon to handle. After discussing the matter with her good friend Fiendark they decided to gather and train eleven young dragons that will become the clans Ambassadors. These dragons will be diplomatic officers in all the different flights, educated and trained by the Chief Diplomat Étaín and the strategist Fiendark. So, the 'Ambassador Training Camp' was founded. Keeping to himself, he doesn't really talk much. It is very rare for Ronan to make friends, as he prefers to operate alone. It isn't that he doesn't like others, he just really enjoys those silent moments where his head is his own. Saying this, Ronan is incredibly smart. He likes to spend his time tinkering with different things to make something new. Surprisingly though, Ronan has a way with the kin of Beastclans. After going through the Ambassador training, he then became the spokesman between dragon- and beastkind.[/columns] Harpy Beastclan The harpies under the great matriarch Talona had once a culture focused on the arts, now they are setting up for war against dragonkind. They currently are employed at the Trading Company and have become a great asset to the clan. It has become common practice for other beastclans--and now also our clan Àidhear--to have a permanent harpy ambassador ensconced within their ranks. -->(Great rapport, very familiar with one another at the moment.) Longneck Beastclan Recently, some smaler clans consisting of the younger generations of Longneck are becoming more hostile with the dragons in the wind territory. Their exploding population seems to push even dragons out of their homes. As they may not threaten large dragons, the more smaller kinds however can find themselves close together with a hostile enemy and are swiftly driven out of their homes. --> (Our clan has an allied group of Longneck living close, so we are in the lucky position of not having to deal with this problem at the moment. In the future, we might have to keep an eye on this matter though, as our family is made of dragon with a variety of differed sizes... so a bit more hostile Longneck clans settling down here in the near future might become a problem. We have to discuss the matter further with the leader of our befriended clan soon.) Talonok Beastclan They certainly are of a bigger problem and the most hostile towards our clan then the other Beastclans. Its different species--Raptorik and Corven--currently coexist harmoniously and in large numbers not too far away from our territory. Raptorik are hunters and warriors who use their wings to climb the air currents to dive at startling speeds towards their prey. The Corven at the other side seem of diminutive size (not growing to be slightly larger than a Fae) compared to their larger companions. BUT it is difficult to see them until they are close enough to strike. They appear in flocks and any dragon caught in such could get nearly cut to shreds (they dart and dive like hundreds of knives cutting the air). It's said that they are cunning and voracious, attacking relentlessly if their Corven compatriots are endangered. Also, they are rapidly expanding, bleeding into areas where dragons made their homes. ~ The Elder Dragons ~

1161.png

The Elders of the clan had a life-time to learn stories and master their crafts.

Kaida - former traveler, adviser, cook
7406548.png
Kaida came by one day and simply decided to stay; she is one of those who joined the clan in the very beginning, right after it was founded by Azure and Alec, and is one of the oldest dragons of Clan Àidhear.

Tybal- adviser, giant softheart, Colonel
9449875.png
Tybal is a giant Imperial, one among the largest of this breed.

- Stories to read in his lore:
'The curious Spiral'
'New Experiences'

Edval- adviser, hatchling training supervisor, General
9216493.png
Edval looks like the gruff and serious type on the outside, but actually he is loyal, protective and a real kind dragon.

- Story to read in his lore: 'New Experiences' -part of it~

Mythos - adviser, teacher, historian, storyteller
10287746.png
Mythos was born in the The Tangled Wood and like Kaida, nobody really remembers when he actually joined the clan - but he has been there since the very beginning.
The Imperial always considered himelf as a wind dragon by heart as it was there he found his love for ancient scripts and writings. Over time he had become a (self-appointed) scholar, historian, collector of scripts, traveling bard and storyteller.
He is the teacher with great knowledge, the name giver of the young hatchlings and one of the clans' most trusted advisers.

Lorcán - adviser, beastmaster
40547369.png
Lorcán took over the position as adviser from his teacher Walder.

Fiendark - strategist
43337096.png Fiendark loves to use his mind to gain the upper hand in battle.
The strategist most favorite saying is 'Honor to whom honor is due', and he is gladly willing to give it to whoever deserves and earned it.

Étaín - diplomat
40566755.png Étaín has a very pleasant personality.

Over the time Étaín realized, that the job as Diplomat was getting too much for only one dragon to handle.

Rapport with the Beastclans of the Windswept Plateau

Ronan - Beastclan Ambassador
28463426.png Ronan is a very distant young male. After going through the Ambassador training, he then became the spokesman between dragon- and beastkind.

124vxqt.png
Harpy Beastclan
The harpies under the great matriarch Talona had once a culture focused on the arts, now they are setting up for war against dragonkind. They currently are employed at the Trading Company and have become a great asset to the clan. It has become common practice for other beastclans--and now also our clan Àidhear--to have a permanent harpy ambassador ensconced within their ranks.

-->(Great rapport, very familiar with one another at the moment.)

10hpztc.png
Longneck Beastclan
Recently, some smaler clans consisting of the younger generations of Longneck are becoming more hostile with the dragons in the wind territory.

We have to discuss the matter further with the leader of our befriended clan soon.)

2r2yvb9.png
Talonok Beastclan
They certainly are of a bigger problem and the most hostile towards our clan then the other Beastclans.

These beastmen are refered to as unpredictable, adaptable, and deadly.

--> (....especially for our curious, freedom-loving, adventurous Puffs! Remember the sad incident with young Kylar! The poor soul will never fly again after he was attacked as a hatchling, crashing and totaly destroying his wings! )

~ Learned Society ~ The learned society, also known as the scholarly society, is an organisation that exists to promote academic discipline. Their activities include holding regular conferences for the presentation and discussion of new research results and publishing or sponsoring academic journals in their discipline. Nearly all members act as qualified teachers for the clan's hatchlings and dragons. Linguistics 'Language is a natural means to enable communication among [dragons], a living entity that it has its own peculiar laws, by means of which alone can it develop, a system of contracts whose foundation was laid in times unknown, and a social institution interwoven with sounds.' Muharrem Ergin (1990) Each of the Beastclan factions has its own language, and all of them speak a common language used for trade and policies. Similarly, each flight of Sornieth not only speaks Common Draconic but also its very own variety. It is polite to use Common Draconic during a meeting with dragons from different flight and breed. The standard variety Ursegal is a language mixture based on several dialects. It originally was nobody’s native language and was meant to be used mostly in writing. By now its grammatical and phonological laws have stabilized from within the consent of all dragon kind. After normalization it turned into the most widely accepted, prestigious way of writing and speaking. In sociolinguistics a variety, also called a lect, is a specific form of a language or language cluster. This includes languages, dialects, registers, styles or other forms of language, as well as a standard variety. The term linguistic variation (or simply variation) refers to regional, social, or contextual differences in the ways that a particular language is used. They may relate to a place or community, to uses and to combinations of the two. So, in Sornieth each flight (place/community) has a specific form of language cluster dragons born there would use; at the same time there are breed specific (uses) kinds of speech too. The combination of both (flight/breed) would then determine each individual dragons use of language. A variety spoken in a particular region is called a regional dialect and is characterized by its own phonological, syntactic, and lexical properties. The terms dialect and accent are differently defined by linguists and scholars. 'Accent' is used to refer only to differences in pronunciation, especially those that are associated with geographic or social differences. 'Dialect' refers to differences in syntax, morphology, and vocabulary as well as pronunciation, and therefor is a much broader term.
For example, if two dragons say the same word but with a different pronunciation ('more' --> /mo:/ vs. /mo:r/ ) then the difference is one of accent. But if one says something like 'You should not do that' and another says 'Ya hadn't oughta do that,' then this is a dialect difference.
The listing below displays the typical phonological varieties of each flight in Sornieth and was considerable simplified by the clan's linguist Chomsky. The different flight varieties of Sornieth* Wind: Imonie
The variety of the wind territory commonly resembles a song, as it is very melodic in tone and cadence. It also has a lilting sound to it.
Light: Lumoisa
Native speakers speak very rapidly, usually sounding very fluid and brisk.
Nature: Brustanan
The sound of this variety could be compared to the chattering squirrels and chirping birds--a consecutive sequence of short, twittering and broad-frequency sounds.
Lightning: Zaopo
A rapid, efficient manner of speaking. Lightning dragons usually sound very clipped and abrupt (somewhat very 'business-like').
Fire: Ruggia
An exuberant variety, in which words are pronounced louder and more emphatic than (usually) necessary.
Arcane: Narcani
Arcane dragons way of speaking usually resembles that of 'a chant' as it has odd pauses that sound out of place to non-speakers. It mostly has a monotone quality to it.
Plague: Braca
Almost impossible for non-native speakers to pick up due to extremely complex pronunciation and conventions.
Earth: Stiria
An earth dragon way of speaking resonate in ones abdomen, it has a rumbling, gravelly sensation to it. Very rough and easily carried tone.
Ice: Fraian
Sounds inhospitable and sometimes hostile to non-speakers as it is a very sharp in tone and quality.
Shadow: Manque
It resembles the quality of a 'whisper', even when spoken at a normal volume. Sibilant in nature.
Water: Quali
Has a mumbling, murmuring quality, where sounds tumble over one another and flow into the next. Sometimes hard to follow, but typically has a calming sound.
*A big 'thank you' goes to @Kitiara and @Rayleigh for letting me use their original idea of the different languages displayed here! 'Characteristic features of breed related language use' Coatl Coatls have communication problems due to the unique way they perceive sound. As they don't have a traditional ear structure they discern and interpret vibrations in the air. Coatl are one of the few species to have a native tongue. They hum a series of different pitches at varying intervals to communicate. Coatl are able to speak and interpret traditional draconic with difficulty, but have no capacity to understand the monotone fae species. Fae These tiny creatures use their large wings and expressive crests to communicate emotion and tone. Other species usually have difficulty reading the Fae as the tiny dragons maintain a monotone when speaking and do not exhibit common body language. Mirror These dragons have not much time for chatter; they usually communicate by action, than by words. So they usually use short sentences, often even monosyllabic words to communicate--turning into an art form to say everything with as little efford as possible. Nocturne As Nocturnes are a species that adapts and mimics other dragons of those in close proximity quite well, their mimicry does not extend exclusively to species characteristics, but also to different ways of speaking. It is known, that Nocturn excel at subterfuge; they may falsify nearly-perfect battle orders by mimicing the voices of their opponents. Skydancer Skydancers have the ability to read energy and emotions by sensing minute vibrations. They usually prefear to speak in a calm and relaxed tone, often they would even adjusting to their counterpart. Snapper Snappers are living encyclopedias and love to chatter on and on about a certain theme. They have developed different breathing techniques to have a strong, confident speaking voice, that enables them to speak for days at a stretch. Spiral Spirals are active, erratic and energetic creatures, and their manner of speaking reflects that quite well. They often interrupt sentences midway, causing a change in the syntactical structure of the sentence as well as leading to a form of words in which there is a logical incoherence of thought. (Anakoluths - an abrupt change of syntax within a sentence). Abbreviations and Schwas are also quite typical for them. Tundra As Tundras are not a chatty species, they rather enjoy companionable silence and love to listen to other dragons's tales. While Tundras usually have difficulty remembering names, faces, and specific details about other dragons, their olfactory memory is excellent. Usually, Tundras prefear a simple, not too complicated use of grammar, as well as short sentences. The spiral librarian loves talking nonstop about new purchases and findings added to her collection. She is a typical bookworm as she just loves everything about it; from the look, feeling and smell of bound literature to the vellum and hides of ancient scrolls. The librarian is often seen walking around, the nose buried in a book, surfacing only to have a look at some new souvenirs brought by other dragons or to take a short nap among the towers of books she takes care of. The young scrib has the zeal to learn and gain knowledge and wisdom about everything she lays interests on. Any other dragon that visits the library has to depend on the librarians or Izarres help to get around safely. But soon she felt the urge to polish her skills and Ealasaid was able to find a master. She studied under @SkylineFields (140735), a fellow wind-clan, to become an approved Genealogist. After making the hobby into her profession, the Coatl returned home and is now spending most of her time researching; both in libraries, archives and gatherings, listening to every tale to get information out of it. Passing by her nest, the ambitious dragon is always seen analyzing and transcribing records, resolving conflicting evidence, writing up conclusions and entering data into family trees. On her journey she learned how to navigate perfectly in the dark, and made many friends. She then joined Clan Àidhear, where she taught many how to navigate at night and which stars to follow. Living and studying the stars changed her wings, and they now glitter as if they were their own constellation. These star-like scales attracted a curious Wispwillow Peryton, who is now her permanent familiar named Altair, after the star of course--the brightest star in the constellation Aquila and the twelfth brightest star in the night sky. Being unable to fly and being left out of many things, she ended up spending her days drawing. She draw the places the other dragons described flying to, as well as rough sketches of their paths. This was how she discovered how to draw maps. Having other dragons describe the scenery wasn’t enough for her though. She always dreamed of flying by herself! Then, Haven encountered the harp, Rym, who volunteered to carry her up into the clouds. But as Haven was a big, heavy dragon, it didn't work out. ~ Learned Society ~

15297.png

The learned society, also known as the scholarly society, is an organisation that exists to promote academic discipline. Their activities include holding regular conferences for the presentation and discussion of new research results and publishing or sponsoring academic journals in their discipline. Nearly all members act as qualified teachers for the clan's hatchlings and dragons.

Linguistics

'Language is a natural means to enable communication among [dragons],
a living entity that it has its own peculiar laws,
by means of which alone can it develop,
a system of contracts whose foundation was laid in times unknown,
and a social institution interwoven with sounds.'
Muharrem Ergin (1990)

Each of the Beastclan factions has its own language, and all of them speak a common language used for trade and policies.

The different flight varieties of Sornieth*

Wind: Imonie

*A big 'thank you' goes to @Kitiara and @Rayleigh for letting me
use their original idea of the different languages displayed here!

'Characteristic features of breed related language use'

Coatl
Coatls have communication problems due to the unique way they perceive sound.

Fae
These tiny creatures use their large wings and expressive crests to communicate emotion and tone. Other species usually have difficulty reading the Fae as the tiny dragons maintain a monotone when speaking and do not exhibit common body language.

Mirror
These dragons have not much time for chatter; they usually communicate by action, than by words. So they usually use short sentences, often even monosyllabic words to communicate--turning into an art form to say everything with as little efford as possible.

Nocturne
As Nocturnes are a species that adapts and mimics other dragons of those in close proximity quite well, their mimicry does not extend exclusively to species characteristics, but also to different ways of speaking. It is known, that Nocturn excel at subterfuge; they may falsify nearly-perfect battle orders by mimicing the voices of their opponents.

Skydancer
Skydancers have the ability to read energy and emotions by sensing minute vibrations. They usually prefear to speak in a calm and relaxed tone, often they would even adjusting to their counterpart.

Snapper
Snappers are living encyclopedias and love to chatter on and on about a certain theme. They have developed different breathing techniques to have a strong, confident speaking voice, that enables them to speak for days at a stretch.

Spiral
Spirals are active, erratic and energetic creatures, and their manner of speaking reflects that quite well. They often interrupt sentences midway, causing a change in the syntactical structure of the sentence as well as leading to a form of words in which there is a logical incoherence of thought. (Anakoluths - an abrupt change of syntax within a sentence). Abbreviations and Schwas are also quite typical for them.

Tundra
As Tundras are not a chatty species, they rather enjoy companionable silence and love to listen to other dragons's tales. While Tundras usually have difficulty remembering names, faces, and specific details about other dragons, their olfactory memory is excellent. Usually, Tundras prefear a simple, not too complicated use of grammar, as well as short sentences.

Mythos - teacher, historian, storyteller
10287746.png
Mythos always considered himelf as a wind dragon by heart as he found his love for ancient scripts and writings in the territory of the Windswept Plateau. Over time he had become a (self-appointed) scholar, historian, collector of scripts, traveling bard and storyteller. He is the teacher with great knowledge, the name giver of the young hatchlings and one of the clans' most trusted advisers. As a teacher he can be quite strict sometimes, but he will always support his scholars; letting them find their own way.

In the evenings, when everyone gathers, he is the one standing up to tell the most exceptional stories. Not only the hatchlings love listening to his voice.

Voriksha - librarian
11350094.png
Voriksha is the librarian of the clan.

This dragon literally devours any written word. Reading and readings books has ruined her eyes over the time. Voriksha had been underground for nearly all life, working on the tunnels and caves, organizing and cataloguing her treasures and keeping everything clean of varmints and dust.

Seshat - scared Scribe of the library
35207591.png
Seshat is the clans youngest scribe and record keeper. She is very empathetic and an excellent listener, but she also likes to share her own thoughts, feelings, and opinions. Being a very emotional dragon and sensitive to the things around her, Seshat often struggles with her words whenever she gets too excited about a conversation. The young scrib has the zeal to learn and gain knowledge and wisdom about everything she lays interests on. Now, she even got herself the titel 'Mistress of the House of Books' given by her friends as she spends so many hours down in the library, overseeing scrolls of knowledge and all kind of powerfull spells.

Izarre - knowledge keeper
10474153.png
This gentile and quiet dragon was never very good at socializing, but she always loved to wander by her own, enjoying life to the fullest. But that was long behind her. Izarre would never forget the day she was asked to become the knowledge keeper of the clan and even if Voriksha keeps the library up and running, Izarre helps her keeping things well organized and collects/pools stories and lore from all over the lands. Often she is seen reading and working on a sunny spot outside the library, enjoying the sun and the cool wind.

Any other dragon that visits the library has to depend on the librarians or Izarres help to get around safely. The well integrated Izarre acts as a really lifesaver; she not only finds whatever documents a visitor may be looking for, she is the one who is able to find any lost wanderers in the depths of the library again.

Chomsky - linguist and translator

Ealasaid - genealogist
19528828.png
Ever since Ealasaid was a little hatchling she had been interested in family histories. She spent most of her days in the library or at the clans gathering point, immersing herself in the stories of her old and new family as well as the tales travelers brought along. She loved to stick her nose in other people's business and one day started to make genealogical tables for her friends, family and other dragons passing by.

She even opened her own Shop! - are you interested to have a look? ;3

Selene - astronomer
45418229.png
Selene has always been fascinated with the stars, and this fascination makes her a valued member of her clan. Ever since her hatchlingdays, Selene was pulled to the skies by the glittering stars. She left her home, following the cosmos in the night sky, believing they would lead her to her destiny.

Nowadays Selene teaches the younger dragons to navigate during nighttime, occasionally she also teaches stealth and flight orientation to anyone who listens. When not teaching, Selene enjoys dreaming and imagining.

Haven - mapmaker
20631952.png
Haven was never good at flying, she was barely be able to get an inch or so off the ground at most.

Not giving up, Haven then learned to fly with Rym as a support and eventually she was able to stay up there for a little longer. Being able to be up there herself improved her skills as a cartographer drastically. And then, one day, the clan elected her as the official map-maker.

Now Haven and Rym are spending as much time walking around scouting the lands, as they do in the library - drawing their beloved maps.

The young dragons also have to show their knowledge of wind currents and their understanding of wind itself. During the test each of the examiners has assigned points to every young participant, at the end of the first trial they seclude themself to discuss their opinions and observations to decide, which dragons are allowed to participate in the second part of the testing. The second and final trial of the Windsinger's children takes place in a powerful vortex on the western shore. This great storm has already raged for a very long time. Torrents of angry air pull clouds in an aggressive spiral, a place from which unprepared dragons rarely return. Like the test before, the young ones allowed to participate will collectively gather in the vicinity of the Vortex. Then each dragon has to set off separately, showing off their skills to navigate and use the winds in it without being whiffed away or--in the worst case--be swept to their own death. Therefore, Sorey used the ten months between the first and the second trial to slowly indroduce the young dragons to the Vortex, closely supervising them as they were trying and improving their skills. "Can you hear the sound of wind chimes
tinkle about the birth of new life?
The upcoming breeze gently stroked them,
taking the whisper to wide open skies.
You can trust in these gently tunes, my child,
the wind chimes are your lullabies."

- Tiamat
tumblr_inline_nlmzw4PbYE1qdxu5r.gif

"In this world, there is nothing like the laughter of hatchlings; their sparkling eyes whenever they managed to understand something new, the excitement and pride they show for themselves in these moments.

"One wants to stay close and observe them as they start making their own experiences. After looking over them for such a long time there is always a sense of bittersweet that lingers in ones' heart when they leave the nest to explore the world for themselves. And then they surprise one with their growth--becoming so much more than one ever expected they would."

- Tiamat, hatchling caretaker

Hatching Day & Wind chimes

When a new life is about to be born in the territory of the Wind, the parents have either prepared a wind chime for each of their eggs themself, or have commissioned the Wind Chime Maker of the clan, Tharkay with the task of creating one for them. The first thing a hatchling is going to hear after it breaks through its shell is the gentile tone of its very one chime. The parents bestow them to their little ones so that the chimes will accompany the young dragons their whole life long.

Growing Up - Parchment & Compasses

The sense of adventure and exploring lies in the Windsinger's brood. As soon as the hatchlings start to get restless in their nests, they are sent to visit the elders of the clan. There they learn those things essential for their lifes. Each hatchling is given a map and compass to freely explore the surroundings and to safely navigate to their destinations.

The elder Mythos teaches the young dragons how to write and read. He also brings them along to the first of many visits to the library, where Mythos alongeside the knowledge keeper Izarre will teaching them about the clans history, and lead their interest to all kind of interesting stories and tales found in books and scrolls. During this time of their lifes, the young ones have to lay down a fundation of knowledge, and they are also encouraged to visit any dragon of the family to learn about their role and profession in the clan.

Dragons of spectial renown in the eyes of any hatchling are the travelers. Whenever one of the travelers comes down to the gathering point, they'd be instantly surrounded by hatchling eager for stories and adventures to listen to.

Training - Wind Under The Wings

The Zephyr Steppes is the most peaceful place in all Sornieth. The calming breezes there coax hatchlings to learn to fly much earlier in their life than other dragons. So they soon begin their studies under Sorey and the other dragons to build up their speed, strength, endurance and grace; everything that would be important to become a gracile but strong flyer. They have also to learn the way of fighting, so they are able to protect themself.

The elder Walder first shared his knowledge about the creatures and familiars that lives in Sornieth and made sure, the hatchlings know to keep themselfs alive on their own. Nowadays his apprentice Lorcán took over this task in the clan.

Those interested to learn to navigate perfectly in the dark can take lessons under the astronomer Selene.

Bridging Test & Trial In The Vortex

The first of two bridging tests of wind dragon's aptitude towards adulthood is the Ascent, a series of reed-covered cliffs through which the strongest of the region's air currents pass. As dragons go through each of these locations, the challenge increases, as does the territory that dragon-kind holds dominion over. The clan's journey to explore these locations started, as three dragons decided to create a party. The rule of the Coliseum stated, that 'parties can consist of no less than one dragon and no more than three'. Thirel, a young Imperial, belived in the superiority of numbers and only dared to advance further after Arawn and Aelwyd joined him into his adventure. ~ Coliseum Teams ~

o0LmhhM.png
made by Proxima! Thank you very much!

6349.png

The Coliseum provides the best chance for dragons to test their own strength and results of training against a variety of wildlife and beastmen.

As they continued to level up their strength, one day they discovered the existance of Battle Stones and then started to gain new kinds of abilities. Aelwyd continued to study these misterious objects and soon learned of the differend types that could be found in Sornieth:

  • The Energy Stones provide a dragon with Breath, the foundation needed to use ones learned abilities.
    495.png496.png688.png
  • Ability Stones are able to memorize all kind of different combat styles. By reaching a certain level a dragon could start learning its contents to gain either a offensive or a party support ability. Still, they needed a certain amount of Breath to successful bring it into operation.
    498.png1193.png523.png521.png730.png
  • To enhance one or more of a dragons personal attributes like Strenght or Defence, they needed to apply an Augment Stone, which could be randomly found after a match against a foe or purchased at various Marketplaces for a high price.
    674.png675.png1274.png694.png705.png
  • Rarer to find are the Accessory Stones. These are exceptional objects provide its carrier with all kind of unique possibilities and perks for every battle. As they are hard to come by, these Stones are of extremely high value and the demand for them on the market is also quite great.

Thirel - Leader of the team
8202875.png
Thirel has a unique perspective on life due to his diverse upbringing. He was born a Nature dragon, raised by Light and Earth parents, and now resides in the Windswept Plateau. He is steadfast, noble and carries great responsibility as the leader of this clan’s coliseum team. Every failure he blames on himself and takes no credit for his own successes. Thie is an incredibly powerful dragon but is constantly insisting that he’s “just like everyone else”. They make a good team and Thirel is grateful to have them around.

- Story to read in his lore: 'Thie meets Chim'

Arawn
18726107.png
Arawn was adopted in from a rescue center one day and settled in nicely with his new family. He certainly loves to be the center of attention and is a very spontaneous, happy-go-lucky dragon, who enjoys the company of others. After a while the young dragon got quite restless and started nagging the older dragons to be taken along on their Coliseum-trips. As soon as he was allowed to, Arawn became part of a Coliseum Party and albeit the young-one doesn’t mince matters, he gets along quite well with his new
fellow dragon-explorers.

- Story to read in his lore: 'Always sweet(s)'

Aelwyd
18369170.png
The young hatchlinge came from a clan, that enjoys travelling, meeting new people and experiencing what the diverse lands of Sorneith have to offer. She soon was taken in as scholar by Mythos, who also gave her the name 'Aelwyd'.
Eager to educate herself Aelwyd immersed herself in her studies.
(...)

Nowadays, the three friends regularly train in the middle and higher locations of the Coliseum like the Arena, Rainsong Jungle, Boreal Wood, Crystal Pools, Harpy's Roost and the Ghostlight Ruins.
18338.png18340.png18341.png18344.png18343.png18346.png

They even started to enter the Mire, Kelp Beds and the Golem Workshop now that they solidified their abilities and established a good teamwork with each other.

~ in training... ~

6348.png

Fawn's team at the other hand was just founded. They try to follow in the steps of the other Coliseum group and train themselfs hard to attain the goal they have in mind.

Their preferred hunting and training grounds are the Training Fields, Woodland Path, Scorched Forest, Sandswept Delta, Forgotten Cave and the Bamboo Falls and the Waterway.
18312.png18313.png18314.png18321.png18333.png18335.png

On rare occasions, they even dear to enter the Waterway and the Arena to gather experience and to challenge themselfs.
18337.png18338.png

After many years as the leader, Fawn one day decided to look for a suitable successor. From two young dragons--who had joined the clan a while back--she chose Halima, a sweet Imperial.

Halima - New leader of the team
39500553.png
Since her hatchling days Halima had loved to hunt. One day her parents and the clan leader decided, she had to grow up and start looking after herself; finding a place she'd be able to call own. So she set off, leaving her family behind, while heading west. She found her new home in the Windswept Plateau, where she was warmly welcomed in by a wind-clan.
Fawn declareed her as the leaders successor of the second coliseum team. The older Imperial had noticed the young one's skills in hunting. Her balanced nature made her the best candidate for the position. Halima did not think of herself as a natural leader though... She found herself lacking of character, charisma and ability. Still, she had the determination to do her very best and overcome her shortcomings.

Keahi
39482839.png Keahi loves beautyfull looking things--they are her passion. She strives for perfection with every act she committs herself to - to the point of hating any as so little part to be messed up. When Keahi overreacts she's making a thunderstorm out of a any little breeze.
The lady has a strong competitive spirit and is also very hard working. No matter if it’s talent or even her knowledge, Keahi always wants to proof herself. She also often clashes with the teamleader Fawn as she wants to show she could do things better then anyone else, none more so than the shy and modest teamleader.

Tengen
45294159.png
Tengen is one of the friendliest dragons of the clan and sets the mood when he's around. He never holds grudges against others and is always ready to lend a helping hand. He also cares deeply for his friends and wants to be by their side whenever they could get into trouble.
He joined forces with his friends Fawn and Keahi to form their own Coliseum-Team. It can be said, that Tengen is a very loyal soul, which is apparent in his friendship with Fawn, and later Keahi and Halima. He is very loyal to them, trying to arbitrate between the two parties so things wouldn't go out of hand.
The big Ridgeback is also known as "bachelor" who is always trying to get together with various female dragons of the clan... usually with no luck...

Fiendre - tinker
7727920.png
Fiendre is a very prototypical dragon of the Spiral breed: He does possess only two states of being: unconscious, and full tilt.
This energetic dragon has major difficulty focusing on one thing at a time, but is excellent at multi-tasking a myriad of activities. Without anything to keep him occupied he would not know how to deal with his agitation and would possibly do .... everything.

Another of Fiendres quirks would be the frequent alternates between his high bursts of enthusiasm and zone-outs. It is not uncommon for him to rapidly speak and gesture nonstop and then space-out midsentence without warning.

- Story to read in his lore: 'The curious Spiral'

Nuria - Pyrotechnist
33510631.png
Núria believes, that pyrotechny is possibly the only art which can compete with nature; anyone who has seen a first-class firework display will admit that for colour effects, and contrasts of light and shade, pyrotechny is unapproached. The young dragon sees herself as an artist who paints on the canvas of the sky. Every succesfull displayed show being her very joy and bride. But Núria also loves the long hours of trials and planning that come beforehand. The success only comes from a careful study of the subject, both technically and the long way to the final buildup.

  • Deconstruction - This is the step where the material is being brewed into 'nothingness', broken down into a malleable state so it then can be easily reshaped into a new form.

  • Reconstruction - Now begins the fusing of the deconstructed materials to reform them into their future shape. For this step to work, one has to possess the proper alchemical Level (Baldwin Level).
