The Human Deities High School AU

In the small town of Sworncliff, California lies the prestigous World's Pillar Preparatory Academy, a school famous for their academics and diversity. Among the many students attending this school are eleven mostly-normal teenagers, each with their own plans, problems, and personalities. Luckily, the school aims to teach their students all the knowledge and skills they will need to tackle any issues that arise during their human existence, so they'll be okay, right?

Not if these eleven discover that they're actually MYTHICAL REPTILE GODS and have to SAVE THE WORLD from being DEVOURED BY AN ELDRITCH ABOMINATION known as THE SHADE.

WELCOME TO SWORNCLIFF

This is an Alternate Universe that combines High School AU, Human AU, and Future AU to tell an epic story about the Eleven being humans in high school. On their journey in life, they'll rediscover themselves, their abilities, and the will learn to bear the weight of responsibility in protecting the world and everything they love from the Shade (not to mention all the homework).

There is MAGIC. There is WORLD BUILDING. And, most importantly, there is SHIPPING.

This also might be a Magical Girl AU. Depends on how you look at it.

Setting/Background Info

It's hard to talk about the characters when we have no idea where we are. So,

WELCOME TO THE FOURTH AGE.

The Fourth Age is the next stage of time, where the dragons have disappeared and humans take the reins as the dominant race once again, free of the influence of the dragon gods. Also known as, This Age, the time were are currently living. However, the year this story takes place is purposely made ambiguous (to keep things lifelike), but it's generally implied that it's sometime in the future from now.

How We Got Here
The Third Age ended when all Eleven deities got together to discuss a final solution for the Shade, that evil, all-consuming abomination out in space that's corrupting everything and striking involuntary fear into the hearts of everyone. Thanks to the increased popularity of polytheism due to the speakings of a suddenly appearing human magi from the Second Age (It Makes Sense in Context), the deities are, more or less, forced to work with each other and improve each others' relations (and their own mixed ideas of their existence become questioned). Through Teeth-Clenched Teamwork, they come to a drastic and ultimately risky conclusion:

They will sacrifice all the life energy of the planet, including their own, to restart the world, where humans once again rule, and project a magical barrier to block out the Shade as they rebuild.

Under the words of the last human mage (who they decided to keep alive this age as well to watch things, much to his dismay), the best chance they have against the Shade is through the constructive power of humanity, who was able to construct a machine so powerful, that it wiped the lands clean and brought forth the birth of three new deities. If the deities were able to utilize this energy, they could be able to eliminate the Shade once and for all. However, the dragons, with their animalistic forms and unconventional sizes, the deities nor their followers could design or construct such a mechanism, for that require a delicacy only human fingers have, and all the humanoid beastclans either hate dragonkind, or are also unwieldy for the task. And so, the deities were running out of options.

Due to the deities' position as gods, they shall always exist, in one form or another, and their spirits will lie dormant, where they will rebirth on the new planet in a human form. They will have no memories of their past life, and they will live like an ordinary human, from birth to death, unless they are reawakened (which never happened). With planning, the last mage (still here) had finally made it where they will be born near each other, all in the same town, where he can watch them all. Good timing too, since the Shade finally managed to make a crack in the Barrier of the World and will soon begin its feast.

You can read more about the history here. But let's move on.

Locations of Interest
  • Sworncliff, California
Sworncliff, a beach-side town, was originally founded by miners who were hoping to cash in on the California Gold Rush. However, as it turns out, there was a distinct lack of gold in the area, leading the small settlement to be abandoned, turning it into a ghost town. Much later, a man named Duncan Hamilton rediscovered the cove and noted its potential as something greater than a failed scheme. Standing on a high cliff that over looked the town, he swore that he will restore this settlement, along with his family, to withstand test of the ages, hense the name Sworncliff. Currently, it's more or less similar to a college town, the culture basing itself around the World's Pillar Preparatory Academy. It's also a popular romantic spot, with its beaches and hills. It keeps a low population, usually just the students of the academy and their families, plus a few people who simply want to stay away from the bustle of the city.
  • Reedcleft, California
Reedcleft is a lot like Sworncliff, except, instead of having the Academy, it houses the Talonok Institute. Placed along a river, the town is named after the thick vegetation surrounding the area. The river itself shared the name afterwards. It was originally founded as simply a homestead, but it eventually grew into a bustling town (thanks Manifest Destiny). Closest town to Sworncliff, or, at least, the most notable. It's a bit bigger than Sworncliff, due to being older, and has a few more shops and locations, but still relies on Heirston for most services.
  • Heirston, California
Heirston is a economic hotspot, with many big businesses basing their operations here. It's the closest city to Sworncliff and Reedcleft, providing the citizens what their small town lacks, such as department stores, concert venues, libraries, etc. The lights are always on, but there are still dark corners, where shadowy business is dealted, the occult is whispered, and corruption runs unrestrained. Due to its multiple nuclei and very confusing roads (even for Californians!), it gained the nickname the Hewn City.

Places of interest
Most of these are in Sworncliff, where most of the action takes place.
  • World's Pillar Preparatory Academy
A private high school founded by the Dunhoofs (Dunhooves?), it's known for it's academics and university-like campus. Our heroes attend this school, and it has funds siphoned in by many of the wealthier students' families, including the Lyffes and Prices. In sports and competitions, they are the Pillar Dragons, and their school colors are red and gold.
  • Talonok Institute
A private high school not in Sworncliff, but Reedcleft. It's known for its sports and its infamous occult activities, possessing a black magic club and having multiple cases of disappearances on its campus ground. Despite so, it has a sponsor in Kingdom Industries. In sports and competitions, they are the Talonok Hawks, and their school colors are blue and white. They usually consider themselves the rival to WPA, and the feeling is mutual.
  • Starfall Bookshop
The only place that sells books in Sworncliff. As the school library only has college brochures and textbooks for research, students who want anything else either have to go to the library or store in Heirston, order whatever online, or they can go to Starfall. The building is most likely one of the oldest ones in town, but very few actually remember it. It's owned by the Castor household, who also live in the flat above the store.
  • Ashfall Forge
A metalwork shop ran by the Hino household. If it's made of metal, it can be found, made, and/or sold here. Usually, they have a collection of tools, sculptures, replicas or weapons, and spare parts in stock, but they also take commissions for people who need something specific.
  • Home/Dragonhome
An important manor where the town founder's family, the Hamiltons, lived. Before the massacre, it was a great place to have parties. Afterwards, it's an empty shell closed off for investigation, parts caved in from tremors, and is humored to be haunted by the ghosts of its former residents.
  • Focal Point Observatory
On some hills outside of town is an old abandoned observatory. It's in disrepair and nobody seems to consider fixing it back up due to lack of interest. Oddly, it's always windy around the hills, making them an excellent location for flying kites.
  • The Boneyard
The graveyard. It's not actually named that, it's just that the place is so old that its name plate had become illegible. Everyone took to calling it The Boneyard and it just stuck. Even the authorities got too used to calling it that to give it a new name.
  • The Forum
Not exactly a location and more of an idea. What the Sworncliff underworld is referred to sometimes. The area is in the poorer end of town, but the boundaries shift a lot. A notable location almost always within its invisible bounds is the Driftwood Drag, a tavern where the lowest of lows can hang out, play cards, get wasted, and make shady deals.

Groups of Interest
Companies and organizations to know.
  • Tempest Corporations
One of the largest technological manufacturers in the world. Practices questionable, murky activities, but it's widely agreed that, whatever they are doing, it's working. Known famously for their phones, dubbed Spires. Current CEOs are both Victor and Oria Price; a staple of the company is that they always have a married two at a time. The founder is the deceased Ulysses Price.
  • Kingdom Industries
Formed from the union of a few small businesses into a manufacturer of many high quality goods, it had been only around for about a decade so far, yet it is rapidly expanding and is climbing the economic ladder at extraordinary speeds. In the technology department, they are considered to be the rival of Tempest, based off of the relationship between the CEOs of both companies. Current CEO and founder is Tamara Howards.
  • Kiloflux Architecture
An architectural and construction company based in Atlanta, Georgia, but they have offices all over the US, one in Heirston. That's the cover, anyways. Their more profitable business is their assassin faction, the Maren, who can be hired by the knowledgeable folk with the cash to pay for a taken life or few. They specialize in poisoning and invasion, preferring to take someone out and leave quietly with the arrows pointing elsewhere. However, they really do construct and do architecture, and many people who work for the company don't know about the assassins, and some even work both jobs. Current CEO is Undine Pickman. Founder is the deceased Mary Tamesis.

Main Characters

Deities are organized by age. Abilities are only summarized and are not restricted to what is listed.
Quote:
Earthshaker
Name: Henry Hamilton
Birthday: June 29th
Orientation: Demisexual Heteroromantic
Grade: 11th (Junior)
Appearance: Tall, stocky man with brown eyes, dark skin, and dark curly hair. Has a stubble of a full beard. Face seemingly fixed to a frown and is naturally intimidating. Dresses modestly in plain colors. Stands at 6'2 (188 cm).
Personality: An incredibly kind and loyal character who is heavily devoted to the happiness of his friends and family. Many simply judge him by his looks and stay away, resulting in him leading a lonely life. Compared to his friends, he is very level-headed and has an abnormally good memory. Doesn't give up easily and can be somewhat possessive. Very strong despite not having a definite workout plan. Prefers to stay at home, but isn't necessarily an indoors person.
His hobbies include collecting rocks, reading books (likes nonfiction), and baking.
He owns a Greek Tortoise named Snapper.
Most likely to offer help, even when he probably can't.
Least likely to try new things.
Abilities: Can control stone, earth, and metal. He can also reinforce his element to make it stronger if he touches it, and he has significantly tougher skin compared to others, making it harder to cut or pierce.
Quote:
Flamecaller
Name: Akira Hino
Birthday: August 2nd
Orientation: Homosexual Homoromantic
Appearance: Short Asian girl with brown eyes and black hair dyed red at the tips. Hair is usually tied up into a bun. Very muscular and and wears bright, saturated colors. Dresses in very few layers and reveals a lot of skin. Stands at 5'2 (157 cm).
Personality: Loud, bold, and extremely passionate at everything she does, she is a natural-born leader, and she aspires to do everything. However, she tends to come off as rude and impulsive. Like the other women of her family, she's a skilled blacksmith and is an avid collector of swords. She's very friendly and tends to get along with most people. Tends to feel the extremes of emotions. Likes challenges.
Her hobbies include sports, crafting weapons, and being in the majority of every club at the academy.
She owns a ferret named Coatl.
Most likely to initiate.
Least likely to stop humming.
Abilities: Can control fire, magma, and rising temperatures. Has an abnormally high body temperature and radiates heat. Resistant to burns, tanning, and can breath in smoke without damage. She can raise the temperature of objects and areas, but cannot lower it.
Quote:
Windsinger
Name: Alan Sky
Birthday: October 11th
Orientation: Pansexual Panromantic
Grade: 11th (Junior)
Appearance: Tall, lean figure with little athletic improvement. Has windswept black hair and pale green eyes. Slightly tanned, and somewhat Asian-looking. Dresses lightly and likes designer clothing. Stands at 6'4 (193 cm).
Personality: An energetic, charismatic young man with an almost magnetic aura. He's excellent at making friends and has the largest social circle out of all the deities. He even has a fan club. His hyperactivity and lack of responsibility makes him seem childish, however, and he takes very few things seriously. Despite his lack of interest in academics, he's a gifted mathematician and linguist, and likes to build kites and model planes in his free time (which is every time). Sometimes displays hints of paranoia.
His hobbies includes handicraft, music (both singing and instruments), and hanging around that old observatory at the edge of town.
He owns a Ball Python named Spiral and a canary named Skydancer.
Most likely to wreck your car.
Least likely to be at home.
Abilities: Can control air, wind, and, to an extent, sound. Unlike the others, he can fly (kinda) (he tries). He can also manipulate air pressure, but has a more difficult time doing so compared to the Stormcatcher. He also has this passive circle of wind around his head that gives him that swooshy-hair thing that happens to supermodels or movie love-interests.
Quote:
Tidelord
Name: Phineas Ward
Birthday: November 10th
Orientation: Asexual Biromantic
Grade: 11th (Junior)
Appearance: Tall and very athletic. Skin is tanned and has wavy, rust-colored hair usually tied in a low tail. Has a strange, patchy beard he's trying to grow since he thinks facial hair is cool, but it isn't working. Deep blue eyes. Likes clothes that are easy to take on and off and seems to only own shorts. Stands at 5'11 (180 cm).
Personality: Distant and disconnected, his peers know very little about him other than that he's the captain of the swim team and that he's insane. Okay, not insane, but he has bouts of prophetical dreams that ambush him during the day that leave him raving like he is unhinged. Most try not to figure out any more. He's a mostly normal person behind the image and is very stressed about his condition. He's under pressure due to his visions and his low grades, and can seem gloomy. Other than that, he's very good at guessing and making bad puns.
His hobbies include surfing, collecting things he finds on the shore, and reading books (likes fiction).
He owns a Leonberger dog named Guardian.
Most likely to surprise you.
Least likely to get drunk.
Abilities: Can control liquid water, may it be sea or fresh, or hot or cold. Can walk on and breathe underwater. Can also see through time via pools of water, though accurate scrying is generally very rare and difficult. Is not Jesus. Cannot bloodbend.
Quote:
Shadowbinder
Name: Melanie Karras
Birthday: March 30th
Orientationl: Grey-Asexual Grey-Aromantic
Grade: 10th (Sophomore)
Appearance: Lean and mostly shapeless (save for some nice hips). Pale skined and has long straight hair. Naturally a golden blonde, but she dyed her hair black. Dull purple eyes. Likes drapey clothing in dark colors. Tends to have a lot of hidden pockets. Is rather tall and stands at 5'10 (178 cm).
Personality: A snarky, playful figure that seems to live off of the frustration of others. She's an excellent liar and loves to be in control, but dislikes attention and prefers to pull the strings behind the scenes. Very smart and cunning, but tends to downplay her intelligence, especially around peers (probably to seem harmless). Many believe she's very selfish and insensitive, but, in actuality, she's doing all she can to make sure her sister is successful and her family is safe. Drools in her sleep. A total mom.
Her hobbies include games of all kinds (card, board, tabletop, you name it), telling jokes, and theatre.
She owns a cockatiel named Nocturne.
Most likely to troll people.
Least likely to use the front door.
Abilities: Cannot control shadow. Instead, she can produce a sticky, blackish sludge that hardens into a glassy substance. When light hits it's surface, it dissipates into a thick smoke. Can disable light sources for a timeframe. Has increased "luck". Does not need light to see. Can use shadows as a method of travel.
Quote:
Icewarden
Name: William Vinter
Birthday: April 23rd
Orientation: Asexual Heteroromantic
Grade: 10th (Sophomore)
Appearance: A boy with a mostly average build, but is somewhat athletic and more slender. Has platinum blond hair cut short and neat. Has extremely light skin, probably due to all the sweaters, long-sleeved shirts, and gloves he owns and wears year-round. Blue eyes so pale, they almost seem white. Stands at 5'9 (176 cm).
Personality: Grouchy and calculating, he tries so hard to be stoic and unemotional. However, he really has a lot of feelings and owns a strong sense of justice, so, no matter how many times he attempts to stay out of the business of others, he finds himself dragged along. Kind of a tsundere. He's very creative and artistic, which can be surprising to those who don't know him. Really likes cute things, but don't tell anyone that.
His hobbies include sculpting, ice skating, and crafting jewelry.
He owns a Samoyed dog named Tundra.
Most likely to cram before tests.
Least likely to share his food.
Abilities: Can control solid ice and snow, though summoning the latter is easier than the former. Can also control dropping temperatures, though he can't raise them. Has an abnormally low body temperature, and constantly absorbs the heat around him. Has a literal death glare that can suck the heat right out of his victim. Resistant to frostbite and hypothermia.
Quote:
Stormcatcher
Name: Richard Price
Birthday: December 31st
Orientation: Heterosexual Heteroromantic
Grade: 10th (Sophomore)
Appearance: Average build and fair skinned, but somewhat weak. Has black hair slicked back with a strip dyed teal to hide his poliosis. His wardrobe seems to be made of entirely business suits and other formal outfits. Sharp features. Stunning blue eyes. Stands at 5'9 (175 cm).
Personality: Acts egotistical and bossy, and frequently tries to prove that he's the best at everything he does. Doesn't like it when he's being controlled or when things don't go his way. He's very brilliant and talented, but hides a low self-esteem. Always feeling that he needs to prove his worth, he hates being useless and never idles. Tends to multitask. Terrible social skills. Is really really concerned about his health and is one of those people who ask for nutrition facts at restaurants.
His hobbies include designing and constructing inventions, working out, and playing videogames.
He owns an American Wirehair cat named Ridgeback.
Most likely to be on his phone.
Least likely to sleep.
Abilities: Can control electricity and water vapor (usually in the form of clouds). Can lower air pressure easily, and frequently does so unconciously when he's in a bad mood. Cannot be electrocuted. Limited control over nervous systems, usually just enough to scramble. Can clap really loudly (seriously). Can see through fog. Some influence over emotions and the mental process. Very limited control over magnetivity.

Lightweaver
Name: Eileen Karras
Birthday: September 21st

Personality: A gifted prodigy in academics, and she knows it. Secure and dignified, she prides herself in her intelligence and is always ready to learn more. She owns a Bengal cat named Imp and a parakeet named Pearl.
Most likely to promote the peaceful solution.
Least likely to spend money.

Can increase air pressure with some effort, but unconsciously does it when she's in a good mood. Can bend light to create illusions or to blind. Cannot tan or become sunburnt.

Quote:

Quote:
Icewarden

Minor Characters

Families
The deities had to be born somehow. This is where they came from.
  • The Hamiltons
They are a large, proud family with origins that can reach back to former American slaves. Primarily Quakers, they're all-loving and have a very good reputation in Sworncliff, the town they founded. They're known to be incredibly reliable and accepting, and the whole town grieved when they... disappeared. The main members are the parents Marcus Hamilton and Mary-Ann White. Along with their only biological son, they also had adopted him younger siblings named Ruby, Nathaniel, and Dylan. This particular unit lived at Home, a modest manor sometimes nicknamed as Homalton (after the residents) or Dragonhome (due to the conspicuous dragon statue that sits in the courtyard). This was the family of the Earthshaker.
  • The Hinos
They are a loud bunch with family back in Japan who crafted samurai swords (yes, really). This unit all share the same loud, passionate personality type, which sharply contrasts the usual stereotype. This may be due to Westerner influence, being born in America, so their extreme vocalness shouldn't be a surprise. The main members are the parents Hino Nitori and Sadawa Saki, who were second-gen Japanese Americans, and a grandmother, Hino Omiko, a first-gen. Nitori is a traveling salesman who returns home (usually) on weekends, while the women live and run the Ashfall Forge, a metalwork shop. This is the family of the Flamecaller.
  • The Skys
They are super famous, and this is not a joke. The main members are Winston Sky, a man of Native American descent, and Feng Yun, a Chinese woman. Winston is primarily an A-List star while Yun is a singer who occasionally does film work. They met on the set of the movie/musical Twisting Crescendo, and somehow, it was a match made in heaven. They aren't around often due to their work, but they love their son dearly and try to keep and touch, and always return home for the holidays. This is the family of the Windsinger.
  • The Wards
They are... problematic. The main members are Michael Ward, a mix-European man, and Caroline Johnson, a woman of native Hawaiian descent. Michael is a marine biologist while Caroline is a oceanographer. They met at a marine life convention and are one of those always-honeymoon couples, and were overjoyed upon the birth of their son. However, their increasingly demanding jobs and lack of familial aptitude causes them to become neglectful to their child, and simply shrug him off with their vast income, ignorant of his emotional needs. This is the family of the Tidelord
  • The Karrases
They are tight-knit... probably because the sisters are raised by a single mother. Penelope Karras is a Greek woman whose career as a fashion model shattered when her more famous husband tore it to shreds with a scandal that basically ruined her life. She currently is trying to raise her two daughters the best she can, and she has more jobs than the sisters can count. A bit of an emotional-wreck and hates being seen. This is the family of the Shadowbinder and Lightweaver.
  • The Vinters
They hailed from Sweden, but immigrated to America for a miraculous job opportunity offered to them. The main members are Edward Vinter, a man of Inuit descent, and Rona Djerv, a Swedish native. Edward met Rona during a nasty case, where she was accused wrongly of murder. At first, he helped clear her name out of pity, but, eventually, they found company in each other, started dating, got married, had a son, etc. Rona died of hypothermia when her son was ten years old, leaving him and her husband alone. Their son resembles his mother the most. Edward is currently the Police Commissioner of Sworncliff. This is the family of the Icewarden.
  • The Prices
They aren't exactly a family unit. They're famous for owning and running Tempest Corporations, one of the largest electronic manufacturers and developers in the world. The main members are Victor Price, the face of the company from the side of the original founders, and Oria Walter, the one who works diligently behind the scenes. Nothing is very known about their lifestyles, but one thing is for sure: their son is nonexistent. Totally. The secret* heir, they keep him located in Sworncliff, out of the public eye, to keep him safe. Somehow, an attack on his life occurred an an early age, and they can't risk it happening again. There's no love in this family as the couple were joined out of an arranged marriage and they only had a son for the sake of an heir, who is fully expected to continue the legacy. This is the company of the Stormcatcher.
  • The Lyffes
They are a happy couple with the most troublesome of children. The main members are Fabian Lyffe, an Afro-American with blood from Haiti, and Cordelia Bonebrake, a Scot. Fabian's first wife died in a fatal car crash while Cordelia affably divorced her former husband, and the two single parents met at the hospital Fabian, an immunologist, worked at when the latter, a Biology teacher at World's Pillar, was conducting research. The two are quite busy, the former moreso, but they both make time for their daughters and always come home before dinner. They don't really know why their children hate each other, and like to conduct "family bonding times" of varying success. This is the family of the Gladekeeper and Plaguebringer.
  • The Castors
They really loved their son. Both engineers and aspiring inventors, the main members were Egan Starr and Flora Castor. They were high school sweethearts that took a right turn, despite the former's family disliking the ambiguous origins of his spouse and the unstability of their chosen career path to the point of disowning him. Flora was an orphan happily adopted by a strange man named Adelbert Castor, the oldest resident of Sworncliff. Both were eventually killed by getting struck by a meteor, leaving their son to the care of his elderly grandfather. Said old man is actually also the oldest human on Earth, being a former mage of Sornieth who survived two apocolypses in order to guide the reincarnating gods. This is the family of the Arcanist.

*Everyone in town actually knows who he is. It's thanks to the conspiracy becoming so blown out that anybody who talks about him is dismissed. Refuge in Audacity, indeed.

Adult Figures
Their relatives aren't the only adults in town. These are some notable figures that play roles in the deities' lives.
  • Ahearn Dunhoof
Hails from the Dunhoofs, a friend-family of the Hamiltons. Similar to the Hamltons, they, too, are respected, and have a reputation for being friendly and helpful. Unusually for the family, Ahearn is somewhat aloof and can seem a little odd, but this had only developed after the mysterious murder of his wife, forcing him into an isolating depression while raising two infant twins. Only in the recent years had he been reintegrating himself into society, most likely due to the influence of his children, and is, surprisingly, the current mayor of Sworncliff. He sports a notorious beard, and is very muscular for a politician. He doesn't look all that similar to the twins.
  • Peter and Kimberly Pinkerton
The sibling butlers of the Price household, charged with fulfilling whatever needs their employers need. Which is basically just Richard, who they live on-site with. Peter diligently does most of the cooking, cleaning, and maintainance, while Kimberly shops, contacts the head Prices, handles social connections, and chauffeurs. As the two people who cared for Richard since infanthood, they're more of his parents than his actual ones could ever be. Kimberly tells everyone to simply call her Kim while her brother is on a last name basis. She also happens to be a serious kleptomaniac and hoarder, something Pinkerton struggles everyday to regulate.
  • Tonia "Tomo" Morris
Henry's maiden aunt who is a hero of her own story. An explorer and adventurer, she had travelled from the freezing north of Russia to the burning sands of the Sahara, to the urban hearts of Europe to the killer wilderness of Australia. She knows lots, learns lots, and loves to understand. She's Henry's favorite aunt for being in possession of many epic stories, some real, some fantasy. A large, burly woman, she towers above anyone at an impressive 6'6, and is obviously the most capable combatant out of all the Hamiltons. That fact allowed her to narrowly survive the Sworncliff Massacre, but now suffers from a damaging concussion that scrambled her memory. Her best friend and traveling partner is Scribbles.
  • Scribbles
Tomo's traveling partner and translator. They can read and write in over 21 languages and helps Tomo communicate in foreign lands. They are also competent in cooking, navigating, and currency, making them the perfect partner... save for the fact they are completely mute. An androgynous character who could care less about what pronouns they're called, they're also Tomo's best friend, and was completely devastated upon hearing about her after the Massacre, when they were away on their own errands. Compared to Tomo, they are very small, standing at 5'5.
  • Edgar Thomason
A name everyone knows. It's common knowledge that he's very friendly, always smiling, works as a postalman, remembers everyone he meets, and talks to every student at WPA as if they were 10 and manages to make them okay with it. What they don't know is that his skills are often utilized in the circle of crime, a strong ally of Melanie who proves her transportation, cover, and delivery. Either way, he's a genuinely nice guy with a very shady background that doesn't bother him. He also happens to be dating Spitfire. That obviously means something about his character.
  • Spitfire
Melanie's main informant and ally in the Forum. Currently a weapons dealer, he can fire any gun he has in stock, and has a colorful past in every wandering profession. Merchant, mercenary, assassin, he's a dangerous man who got tired of moving and settled down to the shadows of Sworncliff, where he guides the young deity in the way of darkness in hopes she can eventually leave it, unlike him. His skin is tanned from long exposure to the sun, and his hair is bleached white, giving him a unique look that he hides under his signature hooded Kevlar longcoat. Dogs seem to hate him. He's also dating Edgar. That obviously means something about his character.
  • Pearl Diamont
The money-minded owner of the Gem Boutique, a clothing and tailoring shop, the store Eileen works part-time at. Mature, analyzing, but ultimately caring, this French-Vietnamese woman means business but her deals are honest and, most importantly, legal. She moved out of Heirston to get away from the bustling city-life in favor of something more quiet. Despite her standing, she's friends with both Edgar and Spitfire, and that probably means something about her character. Eileen idolizes her and even named her parakeet after her.
  • Swipp
He's a trader of sorts, except he has everything in stock. Literally. Weapons, jewels, chemicals, people, materials, plants, paintings, you name it. From unique to common, if you can name it, you can get it... for a price. For every item, he must be given value in return, and money isn't always enough. He's Melanie's main source of income. Charismatic and surprisingly noble. If it wasn't for the fact he could wipe you off the map if he wanted to with a snap and a call, he's a pretty good guy. Most of the time, you don't meet the man himself. Instead you usually meet with his agents, who can organize a trade for you.
  • Baldwin Brewer
An elderly chemistry teacher at WPA. A bit of an oddball, his attitude towards experimentation and imagination more resembles an art teacher, and his lab can be easily mistaken for such a class due to all the fancy crafts he decorates the room with. He has a large chemical scar covering half of his face due to an accident, leaving him visually impaired, but that's not stopping him from teaching. He has a wife named Mazie who works as a US History teacher and helps him around when he needs eyes he doesn't have anymore.
  • Tamara Howards
The CEO of the relatively young but skyrocketingly successful Kingdom Industries. Persuasive and a leader, she's very good at rallying people under her cause, most likely a large fraction of what contributed to her company's fast growth. She has a very open rivalry with Victor Price, and the feeling's mutual. Uniquely, she's also famous for being an open lesbian but is staying single, which is apparently very important to the press.
  • Jonathan Jackson
A pale man perpetually dressed in medieval garb, he's the head of the Brightshine Carnivale, a traveling fair that comes to Sworncliff every Summer, usually either late June or early July. It's actually supposed to go to Heirston, but there's more room for the fair outside of the city. Ringmaster of the circus, auctioneer of treasures, and merchant of prizes, he's the king of juggling professions, and is in contact with some of the strangest of people. He likes diversity, so performers and forms of entertainment change every time he comes around.

Classmates/Peers
All the deities attend the World's Pillar Preparatory Academy, so they have classmates, some more notable than others. Here are them, along with some other people their age, but have other schedules.
  • Lance and Danielle Dunhoof
A pair of twin Seniors and children of Ahearn Dunhoof. Athletic, ambitious, and friendly, they're popular among the student body and are captains of the cross-country and archery teams, respectively. They both share straight brown hair, very dark eyes, and heights, but Danielle's skintone is dark while Lance takes on a case of vitiligo. Despite being a lot alike, Lance acts more gruffly while Danielle is a deadpan snarker. Compared the rest of the Dunhoof family, they're a bit more hotblooded and are more prone to using direct solutions than entangling themselves in the pains of diplomacy. Likewise, Lance plans to join the army while Danielle would like to go into professional sports.
  • Sloan and Serena Viper
Mexican-American siblings who transferred from the Talonok Institute. Sloan, a junior, is a slacker of a genius, who prefers to use his talent in chemistry to make stink bombs and other monstrosities instead of something useful. Serena, a sophomore, was a former cheerleader who turned vicious and hateful after an accident that left her crippled (though she was still pretty nasty before), using her charisma to turn friends against friends and to place herself at the top of the student body. Both are poisonous, both are vicious, and both hate the other's guts. Both natural at gathering parties, they pit their gangs against each other, placing their disdain for the sibling above all other concerns. Except during holidays, for some reason. Then they're a perfectly reasonable family, somehow. Their mother, Irene, was a former fencing champion and supports their "assertive" personalities, but she still holds them from doing anything too stupid.
  • Boston Kent
Was a very nice boy and a childhood friend of Eileen and Hope. Very athletic and loved to run, he shared with the trio an interest in adventuring and exploration. However, a mysterious event caused him to disappear long ago, when they were still kids, and only reappeared recently. Seemingly not attending any sort of education, he can be seen running about the edge of Sworncliff and the highway between the town and Heirston. Good luck trying to catch him, though, since he doesn't seem to stop at any time, and automatically flees from any human being, seen or otherwise. He had very dark skin, which has gotten even darker since his reappearance, and a distinct lack of hair.
  • Hope
Was a very kind girl and a childhood friend of Eileen and Boston. Very organized and intelligent (though sometimes a bit ditzy), she shared with the trio an interest in adventuring and discovery. However, a mysterious event caused her to disappear long ago, when they were still kids, and only reappeared recently. Seeming not attending any sort of education, she can be found deep in the depths of the Forums, trading away strange boxes filled with oddities at the Driftwood Drag, where patrons can take a hand at a different sort of gambling. Despite the strange addictive property of the boxes of unknown origins, she seems to give off an aura that pushes people away (though it may just be that creepy smile and monotone voice she has at all times, or that single unique jeweled box that never leaves her hands). She's an Asian of somesort, but her true name is unknown due to "Hope" being just a nickname.
  • Garret Black
He doesn't live in Sworncliff. He resides in Reedcleft, at the Talonok Institute, where he's the current captain of the soccer team. A fourth year, he's currently suffering from senioritis and can be found skipping school sometimes, much to the chagrin of his younger siblings, Elizabete and Conner. He acts rather brashly and cares very little for frivolity, but can be rather friendly if you aren't his opponent. Otherwise, stay out of his sight, because he is a very good shot and knows how to carry the game. Apparently, he's Brazillian, but nobody could tell by just meeting him. Actually, there are a lot of things about him that people don't know...
  • Pipp and Tripp
Two Native American siblings who eventually join the WPA populace under the aliases Candy and Brandy Trade. The adoptive daughters of the actual Swipp, they seem to be keeping an eye on the Forum for their dad. Candy is excitable and is eager to pursue the "family business." Brandy, on the other hand, would rather not, but she doesn't seem to looking for anything else to do. The former has her hair dyed half blue and half salmon, probably not the best idea for a forgettable illegal trader, while the later keeps a natural black with highlights.

Despite the strange addictive property of the boxes of unknown origins, she seems to give off an aura that pushes people away (though it may just be that creepy smile and monotone voice she has at all times, or that single unique jeweled box that never leaves her hands). She's an Asian of somesort, but her true name is unknown due to "Hope" being just a nickname.

Relationships

Notes on the connections between deities.

Familial
We have two sibling pairs.
  • Shadowbinder & Lightweaver
Sisters with a surprisingly good relationship, most likely due to how they struggled in life together along with their mother. Melanie is very sarcastic with her sister and appears to bully her sometimes; however, she really does care about her and can be very protective. Eileen sometimes finds her bothersome due to her lack of seriousness and moments of smothering mothering, but she works her best to help her and is naturally biased towards whatever her elder sibling does.
  • Gladekeeper & Plaguebringer
Stepsisters who are always on the verge to murdering each other. They aren't actually all that different from each other: competitive, outspoken, and can be counted on to do something because they were dared to. Actually, that may be the reason why they hate each other so much. Always on each others nerves, they're constantly looking for reasons to fight each other, but are also the first to step up when somebody tries to takes their place as the other's main antagonist.

Friendships
Magical business.
  • Shadowbinder & Icewarden
An odd pair, they're always with each other for some reason. Friends since intermediate school, they've been in the same core classes (and quite a few electives) for years straight. Melanie loves to tease and mess with William while he tries to keep her out of trouble. Due to their frequent sessions of snark-to-snark combat, it's a mystery how they remain their relationship... whatever it is.
  • Lightweaver & Icewarden
A sibling-like relationship that most likely branched off from the latter's relationship with the former's sister. They both try to keep Melanie in line while talking about history and dinosaurs.
  • Flamecaller & Stormcatcher
Akira is pretty much Richard's one friend. The latter commonly goes to the Ashfall Forge for metal parts and tool maintenance and they've developed a friendship over their similar drive to succeed, create, and improve. She's basically his main confidant and his guide in social matters, something she's far better at.
  • Windsinger & Everyone
A very friendly individual, Alan makes an effort to befriend those he meet with varying success. Some welcome his presence (Akira, Lissa), some grudgingly (Richard, William), and some just want him to go away (Melanie, Theresa).
  • Shadowbinder & Plaguebringer
Partners in destruction, Theresa is the brawn to Melanie's brain. Theresa commonly finds herself hanging around in the more impoverished sections of town, looking for lowlife to fight. Melanie, who lives in that area, combines their goals by leading the younger girl to teach particularly despicable rogues and thieves. Nowadays, they just hang out and make offensive jokes.
  • Earthshaker & Icewarden
A more recent development, they possess a more normal friendship compared to the other relationships on this list. Friends from History club, they bond over their similar interests and positions as the sane man to the rest of their social circles.
  • Earthshaker & Tidelord
They weren't really friends before the whole Sworncliff Massacre incident. After they became roommates when the former's house was put isolated for investigation, their mostly guilt-fueled relationship morphed into a genuine friendship. The former's stability and acceptance is a good boon for the latter's mentality and health. Phineas then develops a very minor crush on Henry, but they're not compatible and Henry is already taken, so he just keeps it to himself and appreciates what he has.
  • Flamecaller & Shadowbinder
For starters, the former gains a crush on the latter. It's not mutual, and it's (eventually) made clear for her. However, as fire is, she has lots of feels, so she just holds that torch and won't be letting go for a long time. Other than that, they have a very affable relationship, and they respect each other's dedication and skills.

Romantic Relationships
GLORIOUS SHIPPING. Here our are official couples.
  • Windsinger & Arcanist
They initially met at Focal Point during a summer, the former recently discovering the location's excellent conditions for kite flying and the latter being a frequent visitor since a young age. They struck up a good friendship over talks of dreams, attitudes, and altitudes. Sirius doesn't care about the older deity's "reputation", which the latter is glad about. Likewise, Alan doesn't pity nor pressure Sirius, a welcomed attitude. They find the other to be a calming, reassuring influence, yet are very casual and they do stupid things together.
  • Earthshaker & Gladekeeper
The only pair that's actually together before the whole Shade/Dragon/Divinity thing came up. A very sweet, loving couple that's ideal in many ends. Melissa , along with many others, was a bit intimidated by the large boy at first, but quickly fell head-over-heels upon witnessing him interact with some stray animals. A chaser, her efforts eventually paid off, but Henry liked to take the relationship slow, something she happily agreed with. Some people find their age difference off-putting (two years! GASP!), but they're an incredibly cute couple who likes going on walks through the park and attend eco-conventions together.
  • Stormcatcher & Lightweaver
A rivalistic relationship turned romantic, they find energy in each other's minds. They initially struggled to understand each other, but twists and turns allowed them to see the each other in the highest clarity. Richard finds positivity, strength, and appreciation from Eileen while she finds protection, hope, and unity from him. They are empowered by each other, and they learn something new about themselves and the world everyday. Their relationship is actually pretty complicated and I can't really explain a lot of it without spoilers.

The thread is now open! Finally got around to organizing all the information from the original thread. Thanks to @sugarfrost for letting me host the new, updated thread. It's launch is rather plain in appearance right now; we'll prettify it in the future. Right now, have all the info.

Anyone can post now!
