TOPIC | A Noob's Art Blog [Pixel/Iso/Vox]
So. I can't draw worth anything...but I'm very interested in pixels so I figured I'd start this blog/thread to track my progress. I'll be posting links to tutorials, resources and my attempts as I go. Feel free to comment or offer any tips!

Pixel Commissions (human & gijinkas) These informal commissions will be 100 dA points / $1USD each using the base below. I ask that those who order be patient since I'm pretty new to this and I may need to decline some commissions if they're beyond my abilities. Helmets in particular are difficult for me. For now, I'm limiting myself to: - 4 poses, 1 eye type - 1 skin color - largely human designs. No wings, genes or fur. - no animation - image refs preferred. I do OCs! Background So, this whole thing started about a year ago when I realized I'd done nothing useful with my life and I wanted to suddenly learn how to draw. Unfortunately that's not going to happen any time soon (I know "practice makes perfect" but it's really hard to keep it up, especially when you don't actually know what to practice...). Anyways, somewhere along the way I discovered bases. I figure I'll get to actually drawing things eventually... First pixel attempt (click for credits): Done in Sai (I honestly hate this program btw). Unfortunately I've lost the file but I hope to continue it with my other OCs some day. Useful things I learned:

If you can get the tablet to sync properly you've won half the battle.
Sai's limited functions and how to get around (some) of them.
Delete key rotates the canvas and is super frustrating!
How to color the line art (yay~)
Recently... Bought a new base and did some messing around. Was thinking I could do adopts/commissions for practice but don't think I'm good enough at this yet ^^; (goggles need work....what even is shading?) Also done in Sai. Useful things I learned:

Neat way of doing eyes.
Magic wand trick to fill in the lines!
Done in Sai (I honestly hate this program btw). Unfortunately I've lost the file but I hope to continue it with my other OCs some day.

Useful things I learned:
 • If you can get the tablet to sync properly you've won half the battle.
 • Sai's limited functions and how to get around (some) of them.
 • Delete key rotates the canvas and is super frustrating!
 • How to color the line art (yay~)

Recently...
Bought a new base and did some messing around. Was thinking I could do adopts/commissions for practice but don't think I'm good enough at this yet ^^;

(goggles need work....what even is shading?) Also done in Sai.

Useful things I learned:
 • Neat way of doing eyes.
 • Magic wand trick to fill in the lines!

Oh cute! I've never used bases myself but I assume you did everything except the body/head/eye shape? The shading is a little subtle on the hair, but I do like your clothing design, that's really neat!

@Gher Yeah I'll probably need to look up some methods for shading and color selection. But thanks for the feedback!

Isometric Art Started delving into the isometric world with the help of these Photoshop tutorials . It can be done with a mouse! :D The sample I have isn't much but I still learned a ton. Useful things I learned:

Pixel eraser tool (where has this been all my life??)
After marking a start point, holding shift and marking an end point will make a line.
How to make regularly structured lines (2:1 rule, etc)
Brightness rules: Top = 0; Edges +10%, Left face -15%, Right face -25%
Hoping to use the stuff I learned to make a house like in the next tutorial.

With FR's search feature I found my old thread :o Voxels Discovered MagicaVoxel program and largely playing around with that. Made a little fire boy character and might be making a few more sets later just for fun.
