An Explanation
The star of our show is Ocima!
Ocima is the granddaughter of Zalvador, a dragon who was somewhat infamous back in the day. Zalvador's player wrote some pretty disturbing lore about Za as the overlord of his clan, by taking game mechanics such as breeding, the Auction House, and gene changes at face value and playing them for drama. I love this kind of thing, and not just for the grimdark aspect: it reminds me of what
Undertale did for RPGs or what
Shadow of the Colossus did for action/adventure games. By pulling on the loose strings of what game mechanics might imply and following them to their (il)logical extremes, you can get some really cool and often very disturbing stories out of it.
The player was eventually asked to move the lore off-site, since it didn't fit FR's age guidelines. And, yeah, it really didn't! As offsite fanfiction, though, I thought it was at least really interesting, and that's why I have one of his grandchildren.
You're on your own to find the lore if you're curious (I believe in your Google-fu!), but if you, too, want to have ties to this weird little bit of Flight Rising infamy, you're in luck! Ocima's kids will be Zalvador's own great-grandchildren. She has great love in her heart, unlike her maternal grandfather, and has two wonderful mates!
Oltox is descended from the glitch queen, the gatekeeper, the one and only infamous Naomi!
To briefly explain, in the Olden Days, each and every thing you bought off the Auction House and each and every thing you sold on the Auction House and
each and every expired auction notification used to come to your messages, delivered by the Courier dragons. It was, uh, inefficient.
But that isn't the point. The point is, one day people started noticing that their Auction House messages were being delivered by a stranger! A Fae dragon named Naomi had taken the Couriers' places, to everyone's confusion. Further sleuthing revealed such bizarre facts as Naomi's lair apparently storing
all of the exalted dragons. Wild speculation abounded, and it was soon decided that, clearly, in lore Naomi took on the role of a gatekeeper to the realm of the Exalted. What exactly that really meant depends on what you think exalting really is: was she the general who sorted out which deities the Exalted join? Was she a psychopomp like the Grim Reaper? Was she something like St. Michael at the Pearly Gates, weighing a dragon's life before deciding if they were worthy? Well, who knows, but it was clearly something like that. Clearly.
The glitch was soon corrected, and everyone's best guess was that the site admins had been using an abandoned lair to store the exalted dragons somehow, but the upshot was that Naomi was indeed a real dragon! How cool!
So, Oltox is descended from her. With his kids, you can hold in your lair a weird piece of Flight Rising history: a descendant of the Glitch Queen Naomi, Gatekeeper and Courier.
Adzuden is also a Naomi descendant, but he has one more tie to Flight Rising history. For a demonstration, please
check this lair out.
Yes. Yes! Bask in the glory of the Sundras!!
User Sunshine knew what they liked and went for it, and there's a wonderful surprise at the end of those pages upon pages of triple Sunshine dragons.
Adzuden is descended from both Naomi and one of the Sundras! What a lucky guy!
His and Ocima's babies also tend to be delightfully weird, I think, and that's going to get worse over time since he's
on a scatter journey to get at least one Sunshine colour. And I know that Zalvador would have hated it, so these kids are good for the spite factor.
To recap:
Pros:
- Descended from Naomi (Fifth-gen: Kids are sixth-gen)
- Closer range
- You might get a Ridgeback
Pros:
- Descended from Naomi (Fifth-gen: Kids are sixth-gen)
- Descended from a Sundra (Third gen out of User Sunshine's lair, but his father is also a Sundra, so second- or third-gen depending on how you count)
- More unpredictable range
I will be alternating breedings between the two mates, so let me know if you have a preference!
